Terms and Conditions of the Essay CompetitionThese scholarship awards only apply to the internal University of Greenwich degrees offered at the Victoria Higher Education Campus (VHEC) on 498 R.A. De Mel Mawatha (formerly Duplication Road), Colombo 03, near to the premises of the British Council. These Scholarships are only applicable to the student intakes for September 2013 or January 2014 and only at the Victoria Higher Education Campus. The awards are non-transferrable and there is no cash equivalent or alternative prize. The Scholarship awards cover the entire three (3) years of non-interrupted study of an undergraduate degree programme commencing September 2013 or January 2014. The scholarships do not cover accommodation, travel expenses and other incidental study costs, only the tuition fees. Costs such as retaking examinations are not covered. Poor class attendance, an interruption of studies or failure of a course(s) may result in the withdrawal of the Scholarship. The Scholarships only apply to Bachelor (Hons) degree courses in International Business, Accounting & Finance and Computer Science. The Scholarships are conditional upon the entrant to the competition satisfying the minimum enrolment requirements upon commencement of their studies. They are three (3) grade C passes at “A” levels and a Grade C pass at “O” levels in Mathematics and English. (Those who do not meet the entry criteria for English language can join a programme with IELTS level 6 minimum or an equivalent rating in another secure English language test). Students will usually be 18 years of age at the time of commencing studies at the Victoria Higher Education Campus. Employees and their close family members of the British Council and Victoria Higher Education Campus will not eligible to enter the “Essay Competition”. Entrants must send an email of their essay, of no more than 500 words, based on the title “Why I want a UK Education”. The essay should be written as simple text or as an MS word attachment. In the subject line you need to write “Scholarship”, in the e mail you need to include: name, address, telephone number, age, school attended, type of British Council member. The competition is open to any British Council student, Library member or exam taker of 2013 who meets the enrolment criteria of the Victoria Higher Education Campus. Proof of submission or of emailing an entry will not constitute proof of delivery and no responsibility will be accepted for lost, corrupted, delayed or mislaid entries. Only one competition entry per person is allowed. Entries received after the Sunday 18 August 2013, midnight, will not be accepted. Entrants who are shortlisted must be able to attend the award ceremony on the 23 August; failure to do so may mean the loss of their award. Each essay entry must be solely the work of the entrant. Judges who consider an entry of work to be of another person other than the entrant may declare the entry void. Where necessary in order to determine an outright winner, the Judges reserve the right to require that entrants to take part in an eliminating contest (or 'tie breaker'). If for any reason outright winners cannot be determined by the Judges, then the Judges reserve the right to conduct a draw to determine the winner or winners of the scholarships. Entrants winning scholarship awards less than 100% must be able to pay the remainder of the tuition fee to enrol on degree courses at the Victoria Higher Education Campus. Flexible tuition payment plans are available; details on request to VHEC ([email protected]). The British Council and VHEC reserve the right to publish the names and photographs of the winners and runners-up, and the winning entries themselves, and all winners are required to give their full co-operation to all requests by the British Council and VHEC in connection with publicity of the competition, their entry, the scholarship award or otherwise. The decision of the Judges over every instance shall be final and unchallengeable and in their absolute discretion they may declare void any entry and they can award the scholarships or not as they think fit. There will be no right of appeal against the decision of the Judges. All entrants to this competition, by implication, agree to be bound and must abide by these Terms and Conditions.
