Due to populaƟon chang- es our numbers are at a record low and our dedicated team at Wallendbeen are ghƟng to keep the school going. This liƩle school is a hidden gem. I think people forget what a great liƩle village Wallendbeen is and with aordable housing. Wallendbeen is a perfect place for a young family. My family moved here 15 years ago when Kaitlynn was only nine months old and all three of my children (with Bradley sƟll currently here) have all aƩended this amazing liƩle school. The Depart- ment of EducaƟon have been great, supporƟng us during this low period and assuring us that we will stay open while we have students aƩending. Wallendbeen currently oers one to one teaching which is a rare opportunity in the public system and our students are beneƟng from this unusual event. The quali- ty of teaching and learning is of the highest standard with the teachers constantly developing their skills and oering the lat- est researched based teaching and learning programs which will provide the most impact on our students outcomes. Our school prides itself with delivering quality literacy and numeracy. We are currently studying the impact of the recent bushres and the students are developing an understanding of the disaster to homes, businesses, bush and animals. This is teaching them about empathy and resilience with the understanding that all Australians are willing to support the vicƟms and how our bush- land recovers. They will also learn how the tradiƟonal owners of this land used bushres for hunƟng and gathering. We are reading the novel 45 Degrees by JusƟn Dath, which is a great story about a young girls experience in a bushre. I recom- mend this novel to students aged 11 to 16. Once again we have fantasƟc things happening at Wallendbeen and we encourage you to come in and see what a great learning environment we oer to all our students. Mrs Toni Daly Principal

Wallendbeen 2020 Students

Baldry Shield

Save the date 27th March 2020

Baldry Shield is a tradi on we have held at this school

since 1943 and one I would love to con nue. Current-

ly out parent numbers are too low to do it ourselves

so we need to lean on our community once again.

You have always arisen to the call however this year

we just need to confirm your availability. If we can-

not obtain the assistance we need we will have to

cancel the Baldry Shield for this year. So, if you can

spare an hour or two or all day to help in our canteen

or on the BBQ please call the school or leave your

name on the roster at the Post Office so we may or-

ganise a roster. If you can’t make the day don’t wor-

ry, you may assist with baking goods, such as cup-

cakes, slices or cookies we can sell on the day. No

point having a canteen if there is nothing to sell and

this will be our major fundraiser for 2020. Thank you

for you con nued support of our li le school.

Frist week back and we are really impressed how quickly our students have engaged in their learning. They are so fortunate to have the one to one attention from their teachers and producing some great literary pieces. Please enjoy an imaginative text written by

Bradley Daly using the picture stimulus.

Invasion

We prepared the puffer life ra s, pulled up the balloons and the sails.  We loaded the supplies and the swords.

Our most precious load was the stone crusher, modern tech transformers.  I put a layer of cold hard armour on

under my plates of the hard metal shirt.

We launched off to the Nigue, the 102 puffer was my ship.  I put my gold sword on the ground carefully or it will

break, it’s not that solid but it’s a good weapon for a ba le like this.  I don’t know how much longer le  but I take

a nap.

I hear a bang, I saw a ship go down.  Our canons open fire.  I see a castle with canons and a big arrow shooter like

a crossbow but much bigger.  We open our cannons and they shoot arrows at us but they did no harm to our ar-

mour.  We prepared to drop the men in the into the village.  Suddenly an arrow shoots one of our canons on our

ship.  We are going to crash!

Bang! Crash!  Fire was everywhere, the birds went crazy.  My ear drums were ringing as if I was going deaf, but I

wasn’t.  I found my sword and some survivors we were now stuck under the deck, four large planks of wood

trapped us.

It got ho er and ho er, the fire was blazing and the smoke was thick, I could see a plank, it was ten steps away.  I

went over but it was on fire.  I quickly put it under the other four planks and used it like a lever to li  them up.

My fellow men crawled out to the blaze of war and I went too.

Three years later…

The was a disaster, we lost 15 695 men and yet it was s ll a success as we won the war and took the lands of

Nigue.
