Our School Newsletter Beaumont Hills Public School

Dear Parents, Naomi P and Pyjama Day: One of our students, Naomi P has been selected as a member of the NSW team to participate in the upcoming National Softball Competition to be held in Melbourne later in November. As is tradition at Beaumont Hills, when one of our students participates at a national level the whole school shows their pride and support with a fundraising event that assists with the cost of this prestigious selection. Term 4 – Week 4 Thursday 3 November, 2011

Freaky Friday Disco: Last Friday night Beaumont Hills was ‘taken over’ by freaky creatures, witches, wear wolfs and monsters, just to mention a few, who attended our Freaky Friday Disco. Teachers and students enjoyed great music and ‘bopped till they dropped,’ dressed in a variety of interesting costumes with unusual hair design and colours. I would like to thank our P&C committee for coordinating this event. I am sure you will all agree that a great time was had by all. Food and drink were delicious and decorations in the hall were very superb. I would also like to thank all staff who attended the evening. Your support of our parents and students is very much appreciated.

Freaky Friday fun!

Selective High School - Year 7, 2013: The Department of Education and Communities are requesting that interested parents apply online by simply going to www.school.nsw.edu/shsplacement. There are limited hard copies held at the Administration Office for those who do not have internet access. Applications close Monday 21 November for online applications and paper applications are to returned to the school NO LATER than Friday 18 November, 2011. School Swimming Scheme: Unfortunately, due to a limited response regarding the NSW Department of Education and Communities School Swimming program, the scheme will not go ahead. For those who have registered and paid for this activity, please see the Administration Office. Coffee with Heather: The second session of coffee with Heather took place on Tuesday of this week. It was an opportunity for parents to discuss any issues that may have but it was also a time where the teaching of maths in the classroom was discussed. The focus was on the teaching of number and the many strategies that students are taught when solving mathematical problems. I hope that all who attended found this session relaxed and informative. End of Year Performances: As you would be aware out end of year performance is fast approaching. K-6 are in full swing and students are very excited about their impending performances. There is a separate flyer on the website that outlines the dates, the times and most importantly the procedure for the purchase of tickets. PLEASE read this not carefully so as not to miss out. The theme of the evening is ‘Celebrations’ in line with 2011 being the school’s 10th birthday celebrations. Kindergarten Orientation: Today our first Kindergarten Orientation morning was held. Our new students for 2012 experienced Literacy activities in the kindergarten rooms while their parents attended a workshop in the hall on Literacy in the Early Years. A very exciting time for families and our new Kindergarten students. Heather Thomas Principal

Library News: Premiers Reading Challenge Supplement:- Just a quick note regarding the newspaper that went home earlier in the week. The Sun Herald sent free copies of their paper dated 31st October to all participating schools. It contained a Premiers Reading Challenge lift out. It was not the Honour Roll. Honour Rolls arrive towards the end of this month. Certificates and Honour Rolls will be sent home as soon as they arrive. Yours in reading Jane Flanagan Librarian Sports report: Firstly a big warm best of luck to Naomi P, who is off to Melbourne next week, to represent NSW in the National Primary Schools Softball Championships for girls. We look forward to hearing about the tournament on your return. Congratulation are also extended to Amanda B and Samuel L who both participated in the NSW Primary School Athletics championships 2 weeks ago. Both participants put up very credible efforts, with Samuel just missing out in a place in the semi finals of his race, while Amanda finished 2nd in her heat, ran in the semi finals, but unfortunately did not make the finals, but she did finish 10th overall in the state. The final round of the Summer PSSA Competitions will be played on Friday 11th November, with the semi finals scheduled for Friday 18th, and the final for Friday 2nd December, with the back up day scheduled for Friday 9th December. The convenors for each sport will advise the school of those teams that have been successful in reaching this stage of the competition, and then team managers will advise you of the details, particularly where the games will be held. As mentioned previously we have several teams in the running for positions in the semis, so best of luck to those teams.  Student banking: Calling for volunteers - we need your help! The Commonwealth Bank School Banking program includes an exciting new Rewards Program designed to encourage children to get into the habit of making regular savings. Every time students make a deposit at school they re-ceive a Dollarmites token which can be redeemed for a range of exciting reward items in recognition of their regular savings. Students will have lots of fun saving their tokens for these cool gifts. Our school takes part in the Commonwealth Bank School Banking program and we have a number of children who are actively participating by banking each week. We are looking for a volunteer parent or grand-parent to take over as the School Banking Co-ordinator. This only takes a small amount of your time one day a week. Your help with the program will greatly benefit students as they continue to develop vital financial literacy skills and also help our school with fundraising. Our school would really like to continue to actively par-ticipate in this program, which is teaching our children how to save regularly - an important habit to get into! The Commonwealth Bank provides support to our School Banking Co-ordinators with the running of the program. Please contact the school office if you can help.
