We have around 42 new Kinder students next year which is a similar number to this year. The parents and carers met in the hall and were addressed by different members of our school community and staff with useful information for a successful transition to school life at Quirindi Public. The new Kinders had a fun transition time in the classrooms followed by lunch/morning tea on the lawn outside Collarene with the Year 5 students who will be their assigned “buddies” for next year. CAPERS A reminder that our Creative Arts Public Education Regional Spectacular (CAPERS) is on in a couple of week’s time, with rehearsals taking place early in week 4 and the performances on Friday (3/11) and Saturday (4/11) at the TRECC in Tamworth. If you have never been a spectator at one of these events can I recommend you buy tickets and go along? It is indeed a wonderful spectacle along the lines of the Schools Spectacular that is held in Sydney each year and broadcast on TV. We have between 90 and 100 students participating from our school, approximately one third of our school population. State Athletics We have a number of our students participating at Homebush in the NSW PSSA State Athletics Carnival. Mrs Alcorn is an official for the duration of the carnival and we are looking forward to hearing from her how our students performed. One of our competitors, Lucy Scanlon, is participating in a number of different events at State and was recently awarded with her certificate for being the 11 Years Girl Champion at the NorthWest Regional Athletics Carnival. Plastic Bag Recycling Keep those plastic bags coming in!!!. Our K-2 Recycling Leaders took a boot full of bags to the Preschool on Monday ready to go off to recycling. As Evie Gimbert (one of our 3-6 Recycling Leaders) said at assembly on Monday morning…. “the more bags we bring in for recycling, the less bags end up in our oceans and as landfill”. Term 4, Week 2 19 October 2017 LMBR IS NOW LIVE! Payments can now be made through POP, eftpos and at the office. Your patience is greatly appreciated.

The Leader in Me Lots of our students are Proactive at school. Every day this week, groups of students have been asking me if they can collect rubbish from our playground. Here are a few of them. Well done girls. During the Leader in Me lesson this week, 1/2A were discussing and recording ways of being Proactive at school and at home. It is great to see our students understanding the 7 Habits and putting them into practice, not only here at school, but also at home.

Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Program A sweet treat for the kids in the kitchen today, scones and date scones with jam and cream. The art of baking is all about weighing, measuring and science, in order to make the perfect scone everything has to be just right, so it was about precision and finesse. The results were magnificent warm scones that they were all impressed with. Light and tasty served up with hand beaten cream these little gems were snapped up happily. Well done everyone.

Whole School Fair Our school fair will be held in our beautiful school grounds on Saturday 11 November 2017. The fair will commence at 10am and continue throughout the day. This year our K-2 and 3-6 students will be holding two stalls to contribute to the fair. 3-6 will be hosting the Lucky Dip Stall and K-2 will be hosting the Tombola Stall. We do ask that all students assist by donating small items to be included at the stalls. The information below will give you some helpful hints. 3-6 Lucky Dip Stall: A small gift for either a boy or a girl to the value of $5.00. Wrapping paper can also be donated to the stall. Gifts can include, lip gloss, pens, pencils, match box cars, hair clips, spinning tops, small figurines. Donations can be returned to Mrs Matthews.

K-2 Tombola Stall: A Chinese takeaway container filled with items such as lollies, pencils, stickers, assorted dry goods, hair accessories etc. If you do not have a Chinese takeaway container please send in your item and we will provide one. Filled containers and items can be returned to Mrs McGuckin.

Parent Helpers It is getting closer to our Quirindi Public School Fair....... on Saturday 11 November from 10am to 3pm. We are looking for some parent helpers to assist in any way they can during the day. Please keep an eye out for a note that will be coming home with your child giving lots of options of how you could assist on the day. If you are able to help in any way, please place your name in the area/s you are willing to help and return it to the office at school. Any amount of time would be greatly appreciated to help make the day a success for our school community. As the fair is being held on Remembrance Day, we will be holding a short Remembrance ceremony at 11am. Please return notes ASAP or by Friday 27 October 2017 or contact Nic or Shelley if you have any questions. Thank you Jenny Golland President

Jump Rope For Heart This year our school is participating in Jump Rope for Heart during weeks 6 and 7. Heart Foundation Jump Rope for Heart is renowned for being Australia’s most popular physical activity and fundraising program in schools. The program is designed to encourage a positive attitude towards exercise, healthy eating and heart health. With more than 25 per cent of children considered overweight, there is still much to be done and skipping is a great start to developing life-long healthy habits. During the two weeks, students collect donations and participate in healthy activities organised at the school. We will have a Jump off during weeks 6 and 7.

Students are encouraged to obtain sponsors for their skipping. A flyer will be going home with each student detailing the different ways that you can collect sponsorship. It is preferred that sponsorship is gained with online payments rather than with cash payments. Thank you prizes are awarded to participants for their fundraising efforts. All money raised needs to finalised by Friday 10 November 2017. This is a great foundation and we look forward to our school supporting it with this fantastic initiative.
