OR
T ‘The Shed- Where students are supported with the tools for learning’
With Miss Kay, Cathy, Deb, Freya, Lee, Pam, Nadia, Jen, Karina and Iarla, The Shed and the
early years intervention room (the Shack) have been a hive of activity with over one hundred
students being supported in their learning. In addition to this, Miss Maria has been providing
literacy support to the students with English as an Additional Language/ Dialect. Jaki Peris has
also joined The Shed team and is the new ACEO (Aboriginal Community Education Officer) at
KPPS.
Throughout the year, The Shed Team has seen several students graduate from the
individually supported MultiLit reading program. This is a wonderful achievement and each of
these students has been presented with a certificate of completion in recognition of this.
Miss Kay has been continuing to provide small group writing and spelling support to students.
Deb, Freya, Cathy, Iarla, Lee, Pam, Nadia, Karina and Jen continue to provide support to our
Students’ with Negotiated Education Programs as well as working through literacy programs.
In addition to all of this, we have all had fun incorporating the fabulous ‘Joy Project’ into our
programs….

Jaki has been at the school for half a term and is already building a strong and positive
relationship with the Indigenous families, students and staff. She has also been finding out
about programs being offered within our community for our Indigenous students. Jaki is a
valuable resource to KPPS and also plans to support the classes in their units on Aboriginal
studies. We are thrilled to have her ‘onboard’.
Miss Maria has been working with the students who have English as an Additional Language/
Dialect (EAL/D). The initial stage of these support sessions with Miss Maria was for students
to recognise that cultural identity and understanding plays a big part in developing a strong
sense of awareness, confidence and pride. This term, each student contributed to creating a
fabulous ‘Cultural Identity’ display in the corridor outside of The Shed.
Miss Maria’s students have also been doing plenty of work developing their writing skills.
Lots of Ta-Da stickers are being given out each week as the students grow in their
understanding of punctuation, clauses, proper nouns etc.

Kidman Park was well represented at the Interschool Chess Competition on Friday, 18 September
held at Whitefriars. It was a close competition - going into the last round both schools were on
equal points. After a marathon battle between Alan D and Whitefriars' top player, Whitefriars
won 23 to 20. All players played well and there were a number of students playing in the
competition for the first time. All were excellent ambassadors for the school. KPPS top 4 players
were George N, Alan D, Liam M-M & Sean F.
SAPSASA Congratulations to Jackson S who finished in the top 20 amongst about 130 of our best young golfers at the recent state golf day. Keep on swingin'.

This year the sport action team has
done many activities with older and
younger kids. Some things we have
done are;
Football clinics, Soccer clinics, Bowling
tournament, Indoor soccer, Basketball
clinics/games and Dress up day.
We all thank the people for donating
money during the dress up day. We
raised a total of $367. The next big
event we will be doing is a sports fun
day next term.
On sports fun day there will be several activities to do on the oval. It will be a
gold coin donation at the start of the day if you would like to participate in any
activities. And a few activities will have prizes!!
Nine dynamos run our Sport Action Team: Sam H, Stefan S, Alexandra T, Isabella W, Daniela S, Joah F, Charlie S, Sean F, and Rodan J. They are bubbling with ideas, up and about this year getting our F - 7s active and skilled with lunchtime activities. I have been most impressed all year how they take the initiative and run with it : organising teams, promotion posters, going online for drills/games ideas . Plus keeping balls pumped, class gear topped up and sports sheds tidy. As you can see they are already rarin' to go with term 4 activities! Terry Ahern PE Teacher

This term the Art Action Team have been
collecting positive pieces of art.
This artwork is put around the school to
make kids more positive when they are
down. A lot of the artwork is based
around the new movie ‘Inside Out’, the
characters include Joy, Sadness, Anger,
Disgust and Fear.
Some classes did some artwork on what
makes them happy, others made up their
own ‘Inside Out’ characters.
The PEARLS room and other classrooms have been looking at
forgiveness and how it is very important to forgive people for their
mistakes or choices they make.
So put on your Gratitude Glasses and be grateful to everyone
around you!

As well as their usual duties of newsletter
videos, setting up audio visual equipment
and providing X box 360 activities at lunch
time, the Multimedia Student Action Team
have started to create some Legomation
movies to recreate school activities or explain
their learning.
After
some initial discussion and brainstorming
the team storyboarded their ideas in
smaller groups and set about
constructing their lego film sets and then
started to take photos of every step of
their animation. This takes a long time as
each step between frames has to be
small so the final film does not end up
being too jerky. Filming is still in progress! The next stage will be to transfer
all the images into Movie Maker, join all the photos together and add narration
or sound effects and music to make a short Legomation film. We will share the
final results in next term’s newsletter.
The Multimedia Student Action Team members are:
Shaun, Andrea, Nathan, Hayley, Daniel, Harry, Jade, Chris, Nick and Phoenix

S SANDPIT PLAY
Do you have any old saucepans, plastic utensils, plastic bowls or
even plastic farm animals that could be used by our very creative
sand pit users? They love making cakes, sand castles, roads and
cities.
As long as it is safe and unbreakable the students would love to
explore their uses in the sand.
Please ask your child to take the containers etc to P1 or give
them to their classroom
teacher.

Footsteps report by Ethan S
For the past five weeks P1, P2, P3 and the year 6’s of P4 have been attending
‘Footsteps’, a dance program spreading across South Australia schools that
teaches Middle Years students individual and partner dances. During the course
the classes have been learning five dances made up of two individual dances and
three partner dances. The dances were: Party, Modern Progressive, Pasadobla,
Canned Heat and Jenny from the Block. Party was an individual dance, Modern
Progressive was a progressive partner dance (where everyone dances with every-
one), Pasadobla was a partner dance, Canned Heat was a partner dance and
Jenny from the Block was an individual dance. Our teacher’s name was Stephanie
and she taught us four of the dances while another teacher, called Tiffany, taught
us the other dance known as Canned Heat. The dances taught us cooperation,
team work and developed friendships. Overall Footsteps is definitely a great
program.

Room 11 have been investigating and learning about data collection and graphing. They have constructed several data displays from given collected data as well as collated their own data then constructed some pictographs and column graphs from these. Here are some examples: Surveying the class about the number of birthdays that occur each month Class survey about their favourite pet from the data given Survey generated about students’ own choice of favourite ice cream flavours Student generated survey of on organised activities Column graphs were made from date of Fruit tallies, World’s ten fastest
