Principal Report

Wow…..What a jam-packed Term 3 we’ve had!

The Trail Ride, Heferen Shield, Open Day/Book

Fair, CWA International Day, Teddy Bear

Hospital visit, Show-Jumping and Regional

Athletics have made for a very busy, but

extremely enjoyable term.

Teachers are working hard to reflect on the term

now behind us, and start early preparations for

Term 4. Our weekly Professional Learning

sessions are designed to enhance student

outcomes through quality teaching, learning and

assessment within our classrooms.

Our 2018 School Photos were a huge success

today, with students and staff looking very proud

to be a part of the North Star community. We look

forward to receiving our photo packages early in

Term 4.

Students recently enjoyed a fun-filled morning

with students from Boggabilla Central School for

K-6 sport at NSPS. Thank you to Mrs Nixon for

co-ordinating a range of engaging activities for all

to be involved in. It is wonderful to see our

children interacting confidently with students

from our neighbouring schools. We look forward

to fostering these relationships well into the

future.

During Term 4 we will be reviewing our current

uniform guidelines for NSPS. An opportunity

for parent input and discussion will be provided at

the next P&C meeting on Tuesday 17th October

2018, along with a parent survey sent home in

Week 1, Term 4. A timely review of our NSPS

guidelines will ensure that our school uniform

continues to be both practical and cost-effective.

Please encourage all members of our school

community to contribute to this discussion as part

of our collective decision making within the

school.

North Star Public School Kindness, Respect and Responsibility

What’s on in K/1/2

We have certainly learnt some important lessons in

democracy with the recent vote for our Class Party

movie. There were big decisions to be made, with

`Snow Buddies’ receiving the majority vote.

The only thing left to do at the end of the term is to

allow students to `take the reins’ for the day and

show Ms Jesser what they have learnt throughout

the term. `Students as Teachers’ day is a fantastic

opportunity to gauge what strategies students have

retained and possible areas for focus in Term 4.

It is with great sadness that we farewell our dear

friends, Mila and Ollie Brombal from K/1/2 and

the NSPS community. We wish you all the very

best in your future endeavours Brombals, and

know that you will make the most of every

opportunity that comes your way. We will

certainly miss you all…..but it’s never too far to

travel for one of your famous cakes, Bec!

What’s happening in 3/4/5/6

Although this term is beginning to wind up, our

class hasn't stopped for a second! All Year 3-6

students have been hard at work learning about

Statistics and Probability in Mathematics lessons. I

would like to particularly make mention of a quiet

achiever, by the name of Beau, who has been

setting the bar very high in Numeracy lessons by

showing his working out and persevering to

reattempt questions when made

aware of alternative ways to solve them.

Well done Beau.

Beau hard at work

This Friday our class will be enjoying a class party

in the middle session, so please remember to return

class party notes that went out yesterday.

I look forward to celebrating all of the great

achievements of the awesome students of 3/4/5/6

this term.

I wish everyone an enjoyable and safe school

holiday!

Mr Zac Newton

North West Area Athletics Carnival

Nigel Bagley Area Champions!

On Friday, 21st September 2018, the North Star

School Relay team won the small schools relay

event at the North West Area Athletics Carnival in

Tamworth.

The Event is known as the Nigel Bagley Trophy

and this event is for small schools with enrolment

numbers from 26 to 55 students taken from

enrolment numbers in February of the competition

year.

The team can be a combination of any gender and

any age from 8 years up. Sam Durkin, Max

Hardcastle, Dante Van Heerden and Tom

Durkin won their heat by quite a large distance but

had a little more competition in the final. Sam got

off to a strong start with Max having a blinder

down the back straight. Dante took over and

“powered” around the bend to keep the lead in the

third leg, handing the baton over to Tom who raced

down the home straight to victory, a mere three

hundredths of a second ahead of Spring Ridge who

came in second.

The team is off to Sydney to compete in the NSW

State PSSA Athletics Carnival. Congratulations

Boys!

Eight year olds, Emere Lazarus and Annabel

McMaster both made it into the finals of the 100m

sprint. Congratulations to both girls! Emere

Lazarus went on to come third in the final, booking

herself a berth in the North West Athletics team to

compete in Sydney in October. Emere had a very

full program, also competing in the 200m, 800m,

Junior Girls Relay and Long Jump. Well done

Emere!

Sam Durkin and Dante Van Heerden competed in

the 12 and 13 year old High Jump. Sam Durkin

came third and is off to Sydney to compete. Well

done Sam! Sam has qualified for the second year in

a row. Sam also competed in Shot Put, Discus,

200m, School and Senior Boy Relays and Long

Jump.

North Star School had four relay teams competing

in Tamworth which is an awesome achievement for

a small school of, at the moment 25 students. Emere Lazarus, Anya Carbone, Indya Doolin

and Annabel McMaster competed in the Junior

Girls.
