FROM KELLIE Term 3 Week 1
27/7/17
Welcome back to term 3! I hope that you enjoyed the break from the usual school routines
over the last two weeks and were able to enjoy some time with your child/children. It was
wonderful to see all students so happy to be back at school (some happy parents too!).
Term 3 has started very busily at Dernancourt with plans underway for another busy term.
Included in this newsletter is a copy of our current term planner, while we endeavour for this to
be accurate please note that occasionally we need to make changes. Please ensure that you
read our newsletter fortnightly so that you are up to date and if you have not already, then you
may wish to download our SkoolBag app and follow us on Facebook.
As you would have noticed, building 10 (the second transportable) was successfully removed
over the holidays. The space is currently fenced and covered with plastic to enable further work
to continue. We will work with students to create a space that will allow them freely to access
the nature play, and provide an area they enjoy spending time in. We are looking forward to
hearing some creative ideas and plans.
I hope that you all received our skoolbag alert in the holidays informing community about some
staffing changes. Please see the next page for more details where we have included a photos
of our new staff members and a brief introduction each which they have written about
themselves. We look forward to working with each of them and are sure that they will enjoy their
time at Dernancourt School.

OPTIONAL PARENT/ TEACHER IINTERVIEWS
My name is Kane Watkins
and I am very pleased to
have been appointed
the Deputy Principal of
Dernancourt School R-7
for the remainder of the
2017 school year.
I have been a teacher at
Dernancourt School for a little over five
years now and have thoroughly enjoyed
my time working with the students across
the school, both as a classroom teacher
and a science teacher. I am very
passionate about learning and feel
privileged to have been given the
opportunity to work in such an amazing
school.
I am dedicated to making a positive
contribution to the wellbeing of the
Dernancourt School community, to the
academic extension of students and to the
values that underpin our school. I am
excited to continue serving the school
community in my new role as Deputy
Principal and look forward to meeting those
of you that I have not yet had the pleasure
of meeting.
Kane Watkins has been appointed to Deputy Principal position for the remainder of 2017. Kane
has successfully filled this position in the past and has met with John to ensure smooth hand
over took place and that whole school learning programs are maintained. I am confident that
he will continue support staff, students and their families
Katrina Willson will replace Kane continuing the R-7 Science program. Katrina and Kane met
over the break and discussed topics that had been covered and ideas for terms 3 and 4.
Katrina is keen to take on Student Voice as well so we look forward to watching SRC working
towards making our school an even better place to learn and be!
Linda Brooks is also on long service leave for weeks 1-3 and she too is travelling. Anne Gauci is
working in P5a during this time. We welcome Anne and wish Linda well on her travels.
Rose Crompton is on long service leave for terms 3& 4 and is going to use this leave time to
travel with her family. Ms Claudine Green has been appointed to take the class. I trust that you
will join me in wishing Rose all the very best in her travels as we welcome Claudine to J3.
Jeannie Byfield has been unwell over the holidays, and on advice from her doctors will be
taking sick leave for term 3. Steph Webb has agreed to working full time in J6 and the EALD
programs Steph was co-ordinating will be modified. Our thoughts are with Jeannie and I am
sure community joins me in wishing her a speedy recovery. We look forward to her return.
STAFFING NEWS
My name is Claudine
Green and I am extremely
excited to be joining the
school community here at
Dernancourt School R-7.
Teaching is a passion of
mine and for 12 years I
have been privileged enough to teach stu-
dents across all year levels. I particularly
enjoy teaching junior primary, as I believe
the best learning occurs when students get
the opportunity to explore, have fun, ques-
tion and be active participants in their own
learning. I am very passionate about
teaching all subjects, although Science is
my favourite and I enjoy using technology
as much as possible. I have two daughters
who I absolutely adore; Clara who is in Year
4 and Nina who is in Year 2. As a family we
enjoy spending time outdoors, such as
camping and fishing at Yorke Peninsula. I
also coach my daughter’s junior netball
team and enjoy watching them play sports
This year I look forward to meeting many of
you and becoming an active part of your
school community.
OSHC - Important Information
In week 9 term 2 I was lucky enough to be
chosen to represent Adelaide North East for
SAPSASA soccer. I went down to West Beach for
the week to play nine games of soccer in the
State Championships. I played nine teams
including Port Pirie, Lower Eyre Peninsula and
Whyalla, Northern Yorke Peninsula and North
East, Barossa and Light, Southern Valley,
Southern Fleurieu, Murraylands and other teams
around Adelaide. My team ended up fifth on
the ladder with four wins, four losses and one
draw. I played goalkeeper for eight matches
and midfield for the other. My favourite match
was against Southern Valley on the synthetic
pitch. Doing this was really fun, I made lots of
great friends and hope to do something like this
again in the future.

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on
School Students with Disability
We have commenced the annual nationally
consistent collection of data on school students
with disability.
This will involve the collection of: the number of
students receiving adjustments to enable them
to participate in education on the same basis
as other students; the level of adjustment
provided to students; and where known, the
student’s type of disability.
Under the Collection model the definition of
disability is broad and includes learning
difficulties, health and mental health conditions.
If your child is identified for inclusion in the
collection, the required information about your
child will be included in this year’s data
collection.
If you have any questions about the data
collection, please contact the school. Further
information about the Collection can be found
at: http://www.education.gov.au/nationally-
consistent-collection-data-school-students-
disability.

Get involved in the School Banking program. Dernancourt School R-7 is excited to offer the Commonwealth Bank School Banking program to all students.
School Banking is a fun, interactive and engaging way for young Australians to learn about money and develop good savings habits. Children who deposit money into their Youthsaver account through School Banking earn Dollarmites tokens, which they can save up and redeem for exciting rewards.
The rewards available during 2017 are:
Cyber Handball Colour Change Markers 3D Chalk Set Tablet Case Smiley Emoji Keyring Volt Handball Pencil + Tech Case Epic Earphones
School Banking is also a great fundraiser for our school. Our school receives $5 when a student makes their first ever School Banking deposit and 5% on every deposit made through the school (to a maximum of $10 per individual deposit).
Getting involved in School Banking is easy!
All you need to get involved in the School Banking program is a Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account. You can open an account for your child in one of two ways:
1. Online
Visit commbank.com.au/schoolbanking and click on the link to open a Youthsaver account.
2. In branch
Visit a Commonwealth Bank branch with identification for yourself and your child, like a driver’s licence and birth certificate.
If your child has an existing Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account they can start banking straight away. They just need to bring their deposit in every week on School Banking day using their Dollarmites deposit wallet.
School Banking day will be purblished in the next newsletter.
If you would like to know more about School Banking, please ask for a 2017 School Banking program information pack from the school office or visit commbank.com.au/schoolbanking
