Ahoy me Hearties!

Talk Like a Pirate Day™ is Childhood Cancer Support’s biggest fundraising and awareness initiative. It is dedicated to raising awareness of the impacts that childhood cancer has on families whilst raising vital funds for the organisation. Childhood Cancer Support is a children’s cancer charity that was formed in 1975 when a group of desperate parents, with children being treated for leukaemia and cancer, met to discuss ways of helping each other and their children. Childhood cancers and leukaemia are distinctly different from their adult forms and, recognising this, these visionaries identified the need to help children that had been diagnosed.

Today our K/1/2 participated in this worthwhile and fun day. The three classes enjoyed pirate themed learning activities and will come together this afternoon to enjoy stories and games linked to PDHPE, Visual Arts and English.

From Ange’s Desk...

Dear Parents and Community Members

Student engagement is something that we pride ourselves on. Walking around the classrooms and seeing first-hand how engaged our students are with their learning is heart-warming. The dedication of all staff members working together to provide our students with incredible learning experiences demonstrates many aspects of the quality teaching framework set by the Department of Education.

Today, our infant classes celebrated National Talk like a Pirate day. The children (and staff) loved dressing up and getting involved with all things pirate! The day was filled with rich pirate literature, literacy activities focusing on vocabulary and writing tasks such as message in a bottles. Not to mention, hat making in creative arts and outside games like Ship Ahoy in PE.

Well done to Nat Vincent and Mikayla Hewitt, on their amazing efforts at the regional athletics carnival in Canberra. Both girls gave it everything they had and represented our school with pride. We are very proud of you both!

This week saw the start of the ICAS testing for the students who elected to participate. Most ICAS assessments are now delivered via an online platform. This was not without a few minor hiccups as it was the first time out students completed these tests online. The level of enthusiasm from these student’s was unbelievable! Every day, I was met with eager children who were wanting to demonstrate what they know. All students appeared to enjoy the experience and are eagerly awaiting their results. Good Luck!

Next Friday is Spotlight on BPS and we’re looking forward to sharing several experiences with you. Firstly, our open classrooms after recess, 11:30am – 12:00pm. Followed by our school assembly in the high school canteen. The classes presenting an item will be Year 3 and Year 5/6. The colour run is due to commence at 12:40pm. Our wonderful P&C will be selling lunch packs, which is a sausage sandwich and a fruit box for $3.00 from 1:30pm. They will also be donating all funds raised from the sausage sizzle back to the SRC (student representative council) to go towards an outdoor Learning Hub, which we are extremely grateful for.

We hope to see you there.

Until next week

Ange

Two minutes of frantic writing from the Writing Group with Mrs Crawford

School! School! Here I come. Time to meet some people and make friends. Let’s do some

learning. “Eyes on me,” Ms Barrow said. Everybody looked up at her. I need to learn so I can be a

teacher when I grow up.

Meisha Schofield Yr 5

Watermelon, sausages rolls, oranges!!! I can picture them going into my mouth. I am drooling as

I eat. Delicious food.

Lily Hampshire Yr 6

I don’t like sport very much. It makes me tired and out of breath. It also makes me sweat and I

would much rather play Wii Sports. ( everybody laughed)

Gabe Oakes Yr 5

When I eat food, when I go out for dinner (which is rare), I like to think about where the food

came from and what it would taste like when made traditionally, how it is made with spices and

what those spices are and I want to make it at home and share it with my family.

Paddy Morgan Yr 5

I love playing sports to keep me fit and healthy. I also play sports to keep me off technology. If I

didn’t play sports I would probably be inside all day playing games on my phone….. and my eyes

would go square and I wouldn’t know what’s going on AND I’d get a stiff neck.

Joshua Tellis Yr 5

Year 3/4 Canberra Excursion

The finishing touches are being made for this fun filled excursion. Full payment is required by 15th October (first Tuesday after school holidays).

Head Lice

Unfortunately these pesky critters are back, please check your children’s hair and treat if needed. The pharmacy has products and advice if required or go online to https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/environment/headlice/Pages/default.aspx for more information. In some cases you may need to treat your child’s hair more than once with checks required over a 10 to 14 day period.

Congratulations Miss Buchanan

Congratulations to Miss Buchanan on attaining her quality teaching certificate. Your hard work and dedication to the teaching profession is an achievement within it self. Well Done!
