NEWSLETTER TERM 2 - Week 5 - 29th May 2020
PRINCIPAL’S NEWS TERM 2
Well what a busy term we have had so far with online learning and staggered approaches
back to face to face learning. I want to thank you, the community, for all of the support
you have provided us through this time.
We have welcomed many new students and their families to Marsden Park PS this term
and for this reason we have had to create some new classes. Miss Poullos is taking
some of the Year 2 students in 2P and we have split the 3/4R class to keep 3/4R with Mrs
Rigby and Mrs Durkin and created 3/4G with Mrs Marchetta and Mrs Durkin.
STUDENT REPORTS
Student Semester 1 reports are being written and will be delivered home to parents in
Week 2 of Term 3. They will look a little different this semester as per guidelines given by
the Department of Education. The reports will consist of a general comment about the
student’s academic and social behaviours and then checkboxes for English, Mathematics
and Social Development. The delay for reports has been to provide the teachers with
more time to teach, assess and program for the specific needs of all students. School
parent/teacher interviews will be held Week 3 and 4 next term to discuss your child’s
progress. Keep an eye out at the end of term for a link to book these interviews through
the School Interviews platform.
SORRY DAY
Thank you to Mrs Yilmaz, Mrs McLister and Mrs Gauci for the wonder links, art ideas and reading of books to support Sorry Day on Tuesday. All students were provided with ‘over the PA system’ information on the history behind Sorry Day and its significance.
NCCD
Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of
Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to
identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students
with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination
Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD
guidelines (2019).
Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD
includes:
• year of schooling
• category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional
• level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching
practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive.

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
This information assists schools to:
• formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools
• consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools
• develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational
outcomes for students with disability.
The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the
support of students with disability.
The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The
school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be
identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that
regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. To find out more about these matters, please
refer to the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy (https://www.education.gov.au/privacy-policy).
Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal (https://www.nccd.edu.au).
This data will be collected throughout the remainder of Term 2 and into Term 3. If you have any questions about the NCCD, please contact the school.
CAR PARKING SAFETY
The Kiss and Drop zone has worked really well so far and I feel that it was due to the staggered pick up times between 3pm and 3.30pm and parents waiting for their time in the line to be directed to the front to collect their child. Just some friendly reminders
• If you are parking and picking up your child/children, you will be asked to wait outside the top gate until 5 or 10 minutes to 3.
• At that time, I will open the gate and direct you all down to the grass area near the silver tables and seats.
• When the classes are walked to the COLA area, you will be able to collect your child/children from their class lines.
• Teachers will have discussed this new arrangement with the children during the day but please let your child/children know your arrangement so that they are ready, prepared and looking out for you.
• There are three options for pick up, either:
You are parking and walking into the school to collect them OR
Using the Kiss and Drop so that they can listen for their name to be called OR
Your child is catching the bus and are supervised in the library until the bus arrives. As we all know, parking is a huge issue at our school, however, we need to work together to make sure that our community – parents, family and children - are safe at all times. You need to ensure that you park legally, park considerately and do not stay parked in the Kiss and Drop zone at the
front of the school for longer than 2 minutes.
Please be considerate of all our surrounding neighbours, other parents and the staff of the school. So many parents
are being considerate and parking in the correct area, therefore we must make sure that we all are. Everyone is in
the same situation.
If we all work together, we can make the parking situation safer, easier and less congested.
Kind regards
Mrs Christine Calder
