If you’re anything like me, you got a real kick out of our team competing at the Moomba Birdman Rally last weekend. How proud we were to see Mr Wyntra and the team stand on the platform and launch their incredible aircraft (with Jesse) off the platform out over the Yarra River. To cap things off, Team Parkes actually took out the Schools division; another metre or so and they would have won the whole event! What an effort! Congratulations to all who were involved in the planning, construction and execution of the Moomba initiative. I can’t wait to see what you have in store for 2020!

However, as proud as we were of the team’s performance, it’s what was happening behind the scenes that really made me sit up and take notice. I’m not here to comment on what happened to our Parkes High School friends and colleagues regarding their aircraft, but I would like to mention the incredible unity that was on display between the two teams, especially in the face of adversity. At 6.30am on a Saturday morning, I saw a group of staff and students from two different schools get on the one minibus with one common element, putting each other before themselves. Two teams quickly became one, and the newly formed ‘Team Parkes’ left to conquer Melbourne. By all accounts, 20-odd hours of bus travel and plenty of bad karaoke was a great way to forge new friendships, as it was all smiles as they arrived home on Monday afternoon as Moomba champions.

How easy it would have been for students to see each other as rivals, but how proud are we, that they chose to see each other as friends. It is amazing what can be accomplished when we put our differences aside and simply focus on what we have in common.

From the Principal

Here’s to you ‘Team Parkes’

In a complex and messy world, I’m so pleased that Jesus made it clear on how to live a God honouring life; love God and love people. The simplicity of the Gospel is astounding. When I see students from different schools coming together to achieve something great, I see God being honoured through simple acts of unity. That is pretty awesome.

Congratulations PCS and Parkes High School on some pretty incredible flying machines. But more so, congratulations on being great role models to all of us on how to work hard, endure adversity and come out the other side with a smile on your face. What an amazing bunch you are Team Parkes!

Have a great week everyone.

Glen

Congratulations to all the talented students who took part in our second ever MADD Night last Thursday evening. It was a wonderful display of Music, Art, Dance and Drama featuring students all the way from Kindergarten to Year 12.

William Ellis and Luke Hall-Matthews did a great job hosting the evening with their off-the-cuff banter, while special mention must be made of Matilda Wilson, Isobelle Moss and Hana Kim who powered on through some technical glitches early in the evening like absolute professionals.

A big thank you to Miss Harris, Mr Brown, Mrs Pepper and Mrs Muller for all the hard work that went into the night along with all the staff and students who helped out.

Parkes Christian School Physical Activity and Sports Studies (PASS) students in Year 9/10 were able to experience Dragon Boat Racing last Thursday afternoon.

The students enjoyed a beautiful day at Lake Endeavour as Bill and Beth Thomas showed the ropes of paddling the boat.

Mrs Wilson has been very keen for her PASS students to have a range of experiences and this is certainly one that the students will remember for a long time.

A massive thank you to Bill and Beth and the Parkes Dragon Boat Racing Club.
