The number of messages delivered on our morning school assembly today indicated an enormous amount of activity at Billabong High School. We are right in the thick of Term 1 and learning activities and experiences are occurring everywhere, from an excursion to see mathematician Eddie Woo last week, to a welcome disco for Year 7 this week. We would like to invite all parents of Senior students to a student/parent/teacher night on Monday 19th March. While in the past the school has invited specific parents to attend, we have considered the issue this year and believe that it is important that all parents be warmly welcomed and invited to attend. We would also like to remind parents that you can speak to a teacher at any time by calling the school and arranging an interview. You do not have to wait for parent/teacher night to achieve this. Last week I was informed that our school has been selected to participate in the external validation process for 2018. While it is not technically an inspection or audit, it involves a Page 1 panel of two experienced principals assessing the performance of our school in line with the School Excellence Framework, and giving us feedback to seek ongoing improvement. Our meeting will be held in September. Although preparation for this task will require a good amount of work, we have a very capable team of staff to perform this. It will be a great opportunity to strengthen our school planning, reporting and reflection processes, and will move us forward on our school improvement journey. It will also provide us another opportunity to celebrate our achievements together. Mr K.
