PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Coronavirus
You will have seen and heard plenty of media coverage
on the Novel Coronavirus (COVID -19) on the news or
radio. While this news can be upsetting for many
people it is important that we work together to
support those who have been in the impacted areas
and take steps to minimise the spread of the virus to
protect our community.
Consistent with current guidelines, children, students
and staff who are unwell with respiratory illness should
remain at home until symptoms resolve. In accordance
with our current practice if any student becomes
unwell, our infection control guidelines will be
implemented, and the school will follow the advice
provided by the Department of Education and NSW
Ministry of Health as appropriate.
Dental Screening
Next week we have a free dental screening program
for students at our school. Children will be seen by a
dental hygienist and a report provided for parents if
further dental work is found to be needed, This service
is of no cost to parents and is not part of the Medicare
allowance for children’s dental treatments.
The dentist will visit each classroom with a
presentation about dental hygiene and provide
demonstrations on how to brush and floss properly.
Individual inspections will also take place.
A separate permission note will be sent home and only
children who return a note are allowed to see the
dentist. We hope that all notes are returned, and all
children get the chance to access this free service.
Transition Class
Next term, from 30th April, we will be starting our
school Transition Class “Newling Little Stars” for
children who will be starting Kindergarten in 2021.
If you have a child starting school next year or know of
a family with children starting school in 2021, please
contact the school for further details about the
Transition Class.
Personalised Learning Plans (PLPs)
All teachers will be inviting parents and carers to a
short meeting to discuss and set goals for every child at
our school. Booking sheets will be sent home in the
coming days from each class.
These meetings are very important and a chance for
parents to meet teachers and discuss what learning is
expected for each child. At the meeting goals are set
that parents and teachers can jointly assist the child to
achieve. New goals are established each term.
Meetings times and formats are flexible and while face
to face is best, phone and video call meetings can be
arranged if necessary. Please take this opportunity to
be involved in your child’s learning.
Crunch ‘n’ Sip
In each classroom every day we have a “fruit break” as
part of the Crunch ‘n’ Sip healthy eating initiative.
Only fruit or vegetables can be eaten at this time or
water sipped.
Please help your child to participate each day by
providing at least 1 piece of fruit or vegetable in their
lunch box. Also make sure that the fruit is prepared if
needed, as teachers do not have time to peel fruit and
cannot leave the room to cut up fruit. All fruit and veg
should be peeled, cut and wrapped or in a container
completely ready to eat.
Keeping up to date?
Have you been keeping up to date with Seesaw, our
Facebook page and school website? There is always a
lot happening and lots coming up.
Details of how to join Seesaw have been provided by
teachers and Seesaw will let you see what your child is
doing in class and communicate with teachers.
Newling Public School is our Facebook page, if you
have not already friended it, where we share news
and photos about events at school.
The school website has our calendar of events and a
copy of the Newsletter, plus school information.

News From 3/4
As part of our History unit, we have been looking at traditional uses of the land and ways that Aboriginal people used natural resources to survive. We created an image of what this land would have looked like, and have researched key information to include around the outside. This is a work in progress and now that we have finished our amazing artwork, this week we will be adding the relevant information. As an extra for experts, students will be recreating this image using Minecraft and transferring the knowledge to a world they have created online.
1/2 News
It has been another busy week in the 1/2
classroom.
In English we have been learning
how to write procedures and
recounts. We made pikelets on
Wednesday and on Thursday we
then wrote about it.
On Friday Kindergarten and 1/2
were visited by Indi the dog
along with her owner. We learnt how to be safe
around dogs.
Kindergarten News
Kindergarten have had a wonderful time communicating with their families through Seesaw. We would like to encourage any families that have not signed up to contact the classroom teacher and download the app.
We send news of our learning and reminders of upcoming events. You can send your child an encouraging message and stay in touch with the things that are happening.
News from 5/6 Good for the Soul:
Students in 5/6 enjoy opportunities to relax and
work together on ‘different’ tasks and projects-
having opportunities to create and explore– this
can happen in the garden, or in our DIY elective
times.
Last week some students created some bowls
out of buttons. Yep– buttons!
Whilst I wouldn’t look to eat cereal out of these
(the end products varied in levels of success) we
had a fabulous time connecting with each other
and sharing thoughts and stories.
