Principals Report

Dates on Notes - You would have noticed that all of our notes sent home have a date that money and notes need to be returned by. It is extremely important that these dates are adhered to. Organising events at school require great organisation prior to the event to allow for optimal organisation and for the safety of students. I hope that you understand the need to adhere to these dates and the reasons behind this.

Morning Assemblies – Each morning we have assemblies at school to exchange messages and settle classes before they head off for a day of learning. We ask your support during this time in standing to the side of the assembly near the garden or at the back of the lines. It is essential parents do not stand at the front of the assembly or with their children during this time as it can be very distracting. We would greatly appreciate your support in this matter.

No Dogs Allowed on school grounds - A reminder that there should be no pets on the school grounds at any time.

Stage Supervisors and Support - This year we have increased the level of support that is in each stage. Each stage has designated support teachers and School Learning Support Officer (SLSO) that will be in classrooms providing academic and social support. Each stage also has a supervisor that should be the first contact for any issues or concerns.

The following structre of support is:-

Stage 1

Supervisor– Ms. Claussen

Support– Ms. Claussen

SLSO’s– Mrs. Wardrope

Mrs. Elsley

Construction of ramps complete - The construction of 2 ramps has now been completed providing improved access to the library and Blocks D and E for all users.

Mobile Phones at School - The widespread ownership of mobile phones among young people requires that schools, teachers, students and parents take steps to ensure that mobile phones are used responsibly at school. Campbelltown East Public School accepts that parents give their children mobile phones to protect them from everyday risks involving personal security and safety when children are travelling alone on public transport or walking to and from school. It is acknowledged that providing a child with a mobile phone gives parents reassurance at these times. If you choose to send your child to school with a mobile phone, it should be switched off and kept in the school office where it will be stored securely for collection at the end of the school day. Parents are reminded that in cases of emergency, the school office remains a vital and appropriate point of contact and can ensure your child is reached quickly and assisted in any appropriate way. While on school premises, students should not use soundless features such as text messaging, answering services, call diversion and vibration alert to receive important calls.

Road Safety - Safety around our school is extremely important. Recently I have spent some time outside of school in the mornings and afternoons and I have been very concerned about the behaviours of some drivers around the school. On many occasions, I have witnessed drivers putting the safety of children at risk. The beginning and end of the school day are busy times for pedestrians and vehicles outside the school. That’s why you need to take extra care in 40km/h school zones. *Park safely and legally, even if it means walking further to the school gate. *Parking signs are planned with children’s safety in mind. *Slow down to 40km/h in the school zone and stay aware of crossings. *Always park and turn legally around the school. *Never double park as it puts children at risk. *Manoeuvres such as U-turns and three-point turns are dangerous. *Never park in a bus zone or in the school bus bay. *Make sure your children use the Safety Door (rear footpath side door) to get in and out of the car. *At a supervised crossing, observe the directions of the school crossing supervisor. Model safe and considerate behaviour for your child – they will learn from you. *Don’t park across the school driveway or the entrance to the school car park. It’s always a good idea to use the drop off and pick up area suggested by your school. This will help keep all children as safe as possible during the busiest times of the school day. We have requested that the Police do frequent visits to our school to enforce the road rules to ensure that our students are safe.

Bike / Scooter Safety - We have several children that ride or scoot to school each day. All students who ride to school MUST WEAR A HELMET AS THIS IS THE LAW. If your child / children are riding or scooting to school, it is essential that you teach your children to be safe bicycle riders by getting them to always:

*follow bicycle road rules including: o ride to the left on footpaths o give pedestrians right of way on

footpaths o watch out for cars entering or

leaving driveways *wear a correctly fitted bicycle helmet – it’s the law *wear bright-coloured clothing such as a vest so other road users can see them.

Car Park - Work on extending our staff car park is set to start soon. The Staff car park is being extended to provide a safer area for all users. The safety of our car park has been identified as unsafe for the number of Assisted Transport vehicles entering and exiting with our students on board. Completion by start of Term 2- 27th April.

*The carpark will provide a designated drop off / pick up area for the students who use Assisted Transport to get to and from school. *There will be some inconvenience during construction period as staff park down the back of the oval and on the street. We apologise for any inconvenience caused during the construction.

New Staff - Each year at CEPS, we are fortunate to welcome new staff to our school.

Mrs Marsh joins our staff as classroom teacher on 1M.

Mrs Stephenson joins our team working with a wide variety of roles as a Learning Support Teacher and RFF teacher across various classes.

Mr McGifford joins our staff as a Learning Support Teacher and RFF teacher primarily across stage 3.

Defibrillator - CEPS has purchased a defibrillator that will be located in our front office. All staff will be completing training on its use in the coming weeks. We hope to never have the need to use the defibrillator, however feel safer knowing that all staff are trained in its use if ever required. Regards, Janene Cook Principal

Indigenous Design School Shirts To continue the celebration of Indigenous culture within our school we have introduced a newly designed school shirt to our uniform options. You may recognise the design from our amazing Indigenous mural on our Kindy block! A big thank you to Zac at Saltwater Dreamtime for allowing us to use his design on these shirts. These new school shirts are in addition to our current uniform and are not replacing the existing blue school top. This means you can wear either of our top options. Just like our blue school tops, our new Indigenous designed shirts can be worn as normal school shirts from Monday to Thursday with the yellow Sports Uniform on Friday. These shirts are $35, are of beautiful quality and AVAILABLE TO ALL STUDENTS! You can purchase them from the front office and if we do not have your size available we can order them in for you.

Attendance at school

LATENESS TO SCHOOL

Important Reminder: Many students are arriving to school late in the morning. It’s getting colder and we understand that it is tempting to stay in bed for a little longer. However, the bell that signals the start of the school day rings at 8.55am. It is a legal requirement for students to be at school and it is important for them to hear the morning messages and routines for the day. As teacher rols are legal documents, it is vital that they are accurate so it is necessary for all students who are not in lines, therefore late, to go to the office for a late note. Our roles are regularly monitored by the School Home Liaison Officer and regular patterns of lateness to school are monitored. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause but these protocols ensure the safety of all students. Galactic Gus says, ‘Make it your goal to be at school every day and in line every time!’
