L a u n c h o f N e w C u s t o m - m a d e O r g a nA gift from an anonymous Old Boy has endowed the school with a custom-made organ manufactured by the Allen Organ Company The only one of its kind in Australia the organ has three keyboards and 50 stops The organ was launched at a gala concert in the Memorial Hall and put through its paces by acclaimed organist Warwick Dunham The sounds of Bachrsquos Toccato and Fugue Andrew Lloyd Webbersrsquo Phantom of the Opera and the School Hymn filled the Hall as never before leaving few dry eyed

Congratulations to the 63 boys and 23 girls who studied HSC subjects at TAS in 2014 - their results were again extremely pleasing
Patrick Williamson (top right) is the TAS Dux with an ATAR of 995 which includes a Band 6 in five subjects
John Dennis (right) was rewarded with an ATAR of 9885 and a Band 6 in four subjects - Economics English (Advanced) Maths Extension 1 and English Continuers
Sam Johnstone (right) was named on the All Round Achievers list making it the sixth consecutive year a TAS student has achieved this list His ATAR of 9835 included Band 6 in seven subjects
Riley Baile (below right) achieved an ATAR of 977 and a Band 6 in three subjects
TAS remains the best performing boys school in the region
Congratulations also to Harrison Abeyasekera who has achieved exceptionally in the Creative and Performing Arts Harrison has been accepted into OnSCREEN for drama and ARTEXPRESS for visual art A significant achievement

Training camps and competitions at Grafton and Taree have given the rowing squad a boost leading up to the annual Head of the Rver in Sydney on 7 March

G e n e r a t i o nTAS was honoured to have Prof The Hon Dame Marie Bashir as its Speech Day Guest She spoke to the student bodyldquoYou our present students are moving forward to undertake the challenges of leadership in its various expressions I am quietly convinced that your generation of Australians are destined to provide a most valuable and critical leadership role in chartering the future of Australia - which I like to think of as the conductor of the Asia Pacific orchestra bringing people together in tune with one another in harmony with their neighbours and even beyondrdquo
B e i n g C h a l l e n g e dTAS Headmaster Murray Guest spoke at the 2014 Speech Day of the growing enthusiasm amongst students for sport outdoor and physical activities as a counter to excessive screen time He said ldquowhilst others bemoan the indolence of todayrsquos youth what we are seeing at TAS is a growing hunger for genuine challenge and it is at its strongest when success in the challenge is by no means assuredrdquo This is what makes a TAS education so special
