ORGANISATIONAL BACKGROUND

Established in 1989, HELP for Domestic Workers (HELP) started as an initiative by a group of lawyers who perceived the growing need to provide employment advice and support to migrant domestic workers in Hong Kong. Receiving over 100 new clients per month, HELP assists migrant domestic workers and employers through our one-on-one client advice service. We also run a series of education programmes aimed at increasing awareness and understanding of domestic worker rights across the Hong Kong population.

HELP provides free advice and assistance on employment, immigration, criminal, human rights, and (growing into) financial issues to migrant domestic workers. In necessary circumstances, we make referrals to pro bono partners and partner organisations to provide holistic services. We work to ensure all migrant domestic workers have access to justice and to receive equal treatment before the law.

CASE WORK INTERNSHIP (FALL)

researching and preparing legal briefs for legal aid/duty lawyer/pro bono Counsel; attending case management meetings with Counsel; drafting and preparing letters, submissions, and statements on behalf of clients; liaising with employers and various government entities on behalf of clients; attending conciliation meetings and other administrative processes with clients; and attending Labour Tribunal and other Court hearings.
