Last Day of Term 2 Students Dismissed at 2.30pm & 2.45pm

Dear Parents and Friends,

After 11 weeks of absence it was exhilarating to have our Grades 3-6 students return to school this week.

Many staff and families joked that it felt like a little country school over the last couple of weeks with only

Grades P-2 students on-site. It meant that our Grade 2 students were the leaders of our school and they

did a magnificent job. Indie X and Alexander T from 2BD were outstanding in the hosting our virtual

assembly last week. Great work guys! We will continue to host virtual assemblies for the time being until

we get further directions on the gathering of large groups from the Chief Health Officer and the

Department.

Our Grades 3-6 students have settled in really well. All teachers noted that they were very chatty on their

first day back; this is completely understandable as they had plenty to catch up on. They have all started

straight back into the learning program and have brought so much energy and joy into the school. We

have all been so surprised by how much they have grown over the remote learning period. Some have

even outgrown their teachers!

On a serious note, it is wonderful to have everyone back at school. Whilst it has been a very difficult time

of over the last three months, there have been many positive outcomes from this. The relationships

between school staff, students and parents have really grown. Our community members have been so

supportive over this time and it is really appreciated by us all.

It was quite remarkable to think of the way that teachers ‘transformed’ learning into an online format in

such a short time, and how students adapted so well to this (with outstanding support from their parents).

In saying that, we are quite happy if it does not happen again, at least not in this way.

Finally, we would like to share a poem that Mrs Ferrari sent

through recently. It was published on a blog by an

American mother, Jaime Ragsdale. She said that she posted

it on social media after seeing countless ‘discouraging’

messages, concerned that the coronavirus created a big

learning gap due to missed schooling. We fully endorse the

sentiments of Jaime’s poem. At Templestowe Park PS we

have seen this as a great learning opportunity for ourselves,

our staff and most importantly the students and families.

Have a great weekend!

What If Instead Of Being Behind These Kids Are Ahead?

What if, instead of falling behind, our kids are advanced?

What if they have more empathy, they enjoy family connection, they can be more creative and entertain themselves,

they love to read and express themselves in writing?

What if they enjoy the simple things, like their own backyards and balconies, sitting near a window in the quiet?

What if they notice the birds and the dates and different flowers emerge and the calming renewal of the gentle rain

shower?

What if our kids are the ones to learn to cook, organise their space, do their laundry and help keep a well-run home?

What if they learn to stretch a dollar and live with less?

What if they learn to plan shopping trips and make meals at home?

What if they learn the difference between want and need?

What if they learn the value of eating together as a family and finding the good in sharing the small delights of every

day?

What if they are the ones who place great value on our teachers and educational professionals, librarians, public

servants and the previously invisible workers like truck drivers, grocers, cashiers, healthcare workers… just

to name a few who are taking care of us right now while we are sheltered in place?

What if among these children a great leader emerges who had the benefit of a slower pace and simpler life to truly

learn what really matters in Life?

What if they are ahead?

By Jaime Ragsdale

Mid-Year Student Reports and Parent/Teacher Interviews

As outlined in the last newsletter, mid-year student reports will be published in the final week of Term 2.

The Parent/Teacher interviews are scheduled to take place on Tuesday 21st July (Week 2 of Term 3). We

are still hoping that the interviews can be a ‘face to face’ meeting, however, if the restrictions have not

lifted by this time we will host the interviews remotely.

More information on the interview format and bookings will be published in the first days of Term 3.

Principals’ Award

At our remote assembly last Wednesday, we were

extremely proud to present Isabelle D (3F) with the

Principals’ Award. During the remote learning period

Isabelle tried her very best in everything she did. She

was optimistic, enthusiastic and produced outstanding

work in every single curriculum area. Isabelle is an

absolute star and we are so happy to have her and all

the Grades 3-6 students back at school this week.

DUE DATE EXTENDED TO 24th JULY – Week #2 of Term 3

If you hold a valid means-tested concession card or are a temporary foster parent, you may be eligible for

financial assistance from the CSEF (Camps, Sports & Excursions Fund). A special consideration category

also exists for asylum seeker and refugee families. The allowance is paid to the school to use towards

expenses relating to camps, excursions or sporting activities for the benefit of your child.

CSEF is provided by the Victorian Government to assist eligible families to cover the costs of school trips,

camps and sporting activities.

The annual CSEF amount per student is: $125.

Please contact the school office for an application form, or use the

link below to access a copy from the Department’s website:

http://www.education.vic.gov.au/documents/about/programs/health/csefapplicationform.pdf

Please complete the form and return it to the office, together with a copy of your card, as soon as

possible so that we can begin accessing the funds on your behalf.

Families who had CSEF last year and who qualify again this year, have had their applications automatically

rolled over. If you are unsure if this applies to you, please call or email me:

Whole Day Absences

Parents are responsible for keeping up-to-date approvals for their children’s absences on Compass. A

short message will appear above your newsfeed – please click on the link where you will see a list of times

that your child was absent from school.

Late Arrivals and Early Departures

Students who arrive ‘LATE to’ or ‘LEAVE EARLY from’ the school must also have “approvals” logged by

parents. Please note that these approvals can only be recorded after the fact as they are “time

stamped” by Compass. Parents/Carers are not to pre-approve these partial day absences.

All students who arrive late to school must report to the office to ensure they are not marked as absent

for the first session; parents will need to accompany the students on these occasions as we are unable to

take responsibility for students as they walk from the car into the school grounds. Similarly students must

always be signed out by a parent or carer who is listed as a student contact. If your child is being signed

out by someone who is not authorised to do so, that adult must bring a letter of authority with them.

Please note that parents are not permitted to enter school buildings at the moment.

If you need to collect your child from school early, please come to the external door

(outside the school office) and ring the doorbell.

Please allow extra time for office staff to collect your child/ren from their grade/s.

2020

Hi to all and welcome back to our students here at Templestowe

Park. It has been an interesting last few weeks with minimal

children attending school and the rest at home doing home

schooling. It is a credit to the Principals, teachers, parents and

students emerging from this situation with a great outcome - you are all to be commended. Here at OSHC

we were still able to provide a fun packed program with our arts and crafts to physical activities and our

themes provided by Camp Australia. As I said well done to all, enjoy the rest of the term.

Regards,

Harry - COORDINATOR

Program Details

We’re here to make after school care visits the best experience possible – for you and your child.

If you have any questions about the program – please feel free to drop by, meet the team and see what

happens in after school care first hand.

We look forward to seeing you soon.

THE CAMP AUSTRALIA TEAM

Second-Hand and Lost & Found – School Uniforms - ONLY

Parents from the school have created a Templestowe Park “buy, swap and sell” group on Facebook in an

effort to help families locate lost and found jackets and other items of uniform; it will also be a place to

sell off old uniforms. We encourage you to look at the group to see if it helps you in any way.

The group can be found by clicking on the following link:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/164130594118642/.

The school’s Uniform Shop will continue to sell any second-hand items that

have previously been given to them, but all future items will be redirected to the above group.
