We would like to get the CDC children to experience
part of this traditional Japanese event and we will be
taking commemorative pictures of 3 years old and 5 years
old children in November.
The 5 years old children will be dressing up in traditional
Japanese attire and the 3 years old children will be
dressing up in traditional Okinawan attire.
Please dress your child in a red OIST T-shirt and a
pants on the picture day. We encourage you to
comb or tie up your child’s hair at home prior to
coming to the CDC.
SHICHI-GO-SAN PHOTO SHOOTING
The participation is voluntary.
Please let us know if you do not want your
child to participate in the photo shoot.
【Target Children】
3 years old: Born from December 1 2017,
through November 30, 2018
5 years old: Born in December 1, 2015 through
November 30, 2016
Origin of Shichi-Go-San
In the old days, there were no various kinds of medicines or hospitals as there are now, and it was easy to get sick and so on. It was said that children up to the age of seven were especially susceptible to illness. Therefore, a ritual was held to ask their gods to help the children grow up healthy, which has been passed down to the current Shichigosan.
Shichi-Go-San (7-5-3)
Shichi-Go-San is a day to celebrate the growth of children (3 or 7 years old girls and 5 years old boys) and to wish for their healthy upbringing onNovember 15.
Shichi-Go-San (Seven-Five-Three)
Let's go to the shrine with everyone in the family!
Let's go to a Shinto shrine to give thanks for how far your child has come, and to pray that he or she will continue to grow up healthy and vigorous.
Let's eat Chitose Candy
Chitose candy is depicted as a candy for 1000 years old.
It is difficult to live to be 1,000 years old, but it has the meaning of wishing that you can live that long and healthy.
That's why the candy and the bag it comes in are so long.
Shichi-Go-San (Seven-Five-Three)
TEDAKO WINTER CONCERT
Hooray, Tedako parents!
Tedako CDC will be able to hold the Winter Concert in the auditorium with restrictions if
the infection situation of the new coronavirus continues at the current (low) level!
When the weather gets cold out, our preschool children will warm your heart with their
lovely voices and dance!
Please prepare the children’s clothes as requested by his or her classroom. If you have any
questions, please confirm it to each class teacher.
Day 1) Friday, December 3 – Preschool & Shinka
Day 2) Wednesday, December 8 – Infants & Pre-toddlers
Day 3) Thursday, December 9 – Toddlers
The event will be held with infection control measures in place, so we would appreciate your
cooperation. The specific schedule will be announced as soon as it is available.
BI-ANNUAL HEALTH CHECK UP
We have scheduled an upcoming health
screening with a pediatrician from 2:30 pm
at Tedako on Monday, November 15th.
Parents, this health screening is required! Please
ensure your child(ren) will take the screening at the
CDC or you must take your child to a clinic at your
own expense.
Also, please update your child`s
immunization records and submit a copy of
your child`s shot record to the CDC office
staff with any necessary updates/changes.
Thank you in advance for your support and
cooperation.
KEEP KIDS SAFE
Please watch your child/ren carefully during and after pick up.
When you are here your child is your responsibility.
Many children are climbing the rock wall at the entrance of the CDC when leaving in the afternoon. Climbing is good for children, however it is unsafe if not supervised by adults. When your child/ren are on any high places such as fences, the slides, trees and etc., please keep your eyes on your child/ren.
Children love to run and there is a street outside of the CDC, so please do not let any child(ren) besides your own out of the gate.
WELCOME RUKA SENSEI!Ruka joined us from October in Shinka class.
Hello all the parents!
My name is Ruka Terukina and I am a new classroom staff
in Shinka Class.
I am originally from Okinawa, but I lived in the United
States for the past seven years. I have a background in
Early Childhood Education, Human Services, and Mental
Health fields. I’ve worked at orphanages and preschools in
Kenya and Tanzania as a volunteer teacher and worked at
psychiatric hospitals in the States as a mental health
technician.
– My Core Belief as a Childcare Worker –
I value learning and growing together with children!😊
I believe that I am not only a teacher in classroom,
children are also teachers to me because they open my
eyes and inspire me with their creativity and uniqueness.
I will do my best to create a child-focused environment
with my value!
WELCOME CHISATO SENSEI!Chisato joined us from November in Nujumi class.
My name is Chisato Kamiunten. I have
worked in a travel agency and a library. My
motivation for becoming interested in early
childhood education came when I was
working as a volunteer assistant at a Japanese
language school in Sydney. The students
ranged from 3 years old to junior high school
students. I was in a class of 4-year-olds. they
spoke both English and Japanese and they
taught me English and also about Australian
culture. That experience is a treasure for me.
Currently, I am studying to become a
certified nursery teacher. This is my first time
working in a nursery, school so I will do my
best to study hard and do my best. I look
forward to working with you.
SNACK TIMEK

Akasa
n
Kukuru and Akasan babies enjoy
eating. Before snack time, we wash
their hands to get them ready for
their snack. Teachers support young
babies by feeding them, while mobile
babies get an extra spoon to play
with as they use their hands to try to
feed themselves. At every meal,
teachers try to introduce children to
what is inside their “Bento”(lunch
box). For instance, teachers explain
to babies the kind of vegetables, fruits,
colors, and other sensory things like
cold, warm, sweet, salty, or sour.
Teachers also encourage the use of
the baby sign language for “more,” ”all
done,“ and “please”

In the pre-toddler class, every day we read picture books during
circle time and before nap time. Children love reading picture
books. First, we sing "Story Time Song" together to increase the
excitement. After preparing to listen to the stories, we begin the
story time. Through picture books, the children have various
opportunities to listen and learn new vocabulary words. The new
pictures and the world of the picture books in the story can
contribute to in expanding the interest of children. Enriching
vocabulary words and imaginations will eventually improve the
conversation skill of the children.
In addition, the children will be able to recognize the changes in
the character’s perspective which is vital in enriching and
expanding the children’s emotions and imaginations. By being able
to relate to the world of picture books to their own individual
experiences, it enables the children to expand their interest.
Children are able to learn many new knowledge while enjoying
their favorite picture books during this valuable story time.
TODDLER TWOSPUZZLE TIME
Playing with puzzles provides many benefits for young children and promotes their development in various ways.
Whilst children are playing with puzzles, they:
・Develop vocabulary
・Develop and refine their fine motor skills.
・Develop hand-eye coordination
・Improve memory skills
・Increase problem-solving skills
・Build spatial perception
・Cultivate patience and concentration
Most importantly, completing a puzzle after repeatedly trying it, brings children so much satisfaction. This experience in overcoming
the challenges involved in solving a puzzle gives them a sense of achievement and pride within themselves. It not only boosts their
self-confidence and self-esteem but also prepares them for other challenges in life.
Here are the top 3 most popular puzzles among the children of toddler classes:
・Animals
・Transportation
・Shapes
Puzzles are fun educational toys that challenge young minds.
We highly recommend you give your child an opportunity to play with them at home as well.

SELF HELP SKILLSA Journey to Become Independent (3-5 years old classes)
As our preschoolers grow and mature, there are certain self-care skills (washing
hands, getting dressed, using utensils, among others) that they will need to learn to do
on their own. These everyday tasks are things that need to be taught and practiced.
In our 3-5 years old classes, we use a self-help checklist that provides a clear guideline
on how to make sure our students become independent and are ready for the next
class and their future in general. Whenever our students try something new, we focus
on the journey (the method) and not the destination (the result). In the beginning,
they are bound to make mistakes, we encourage and teach them instead of stepping
in and doing the task for them.
We guide our students on how to dress and undress by themselves, by providing
positive feedback and showing them how to do it, but we insist that they try it by
themselves. We apply the same concept when we ask them to clean their futon after
rest time, we can assist as necessary but ultimately, they must do it by themselves.
While our students are learning to use the toilet, which is one of the main self-help
skills we expect them to attain, we also teach them how to wash their hands properly.
We explain that handwashing isn’t only for keeping hands clean, but it helps get rid of
the germs that make people sick. It’s important that our children learn this skill on
their own because we are not always around to make sure they do it the right way.
Learning to become independent is an important part of personal and social
development, we are responsive when our student's express pleasure about their
accomplishments and discoveries but we let them explore their own potential and
attempt daily routines by themselves so they can gain autonomy of their own
learning.

DRAMATIC PLAYThe drama center is one of those centers that finds its way into all the other
classroom centers somehow! The children love playing house, pretending to work in
a restaurant, playing doctor. On any given day you can come into the Shinka
classroom and find the kids dancing around to music, pretending to be their favorite
Pokémon or pretending to be the teacher and leading a circle time. Dramatic play is
a wonderful way for the children to use their imaginations and strengthen bonds and
friendships with their peers.
We have more of an unstructured style of dramatic play in the Shinka classroom.
There are items set out for the kids to use in a specific way, but the children are not
required to use them in that way. Most of the time the children use the toys and
items in the drama center, as well as other centers, to represent whatever they can
think of. It is fun to see them using rocks from the science center as food, when we
have actual food toys in the drama center! Their imaginations are endless.
Dramatic play can take on many forms, and while pretending may just look like
playing, it is integral to the developmental learning process. It should always be
encouraged, and children need lots of opportunities to engage in it. Dramatic play
promotes language development, conflict resolution, supports math and literacy, and
so much more.
