New App will make easy for Channel to know about GST

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has launched a mobile app called GST Rates Finder, which has been built to help users find out GST rates for various goods and services. The app, available on the Android platform, can be downloaded on any smartphone. Once downloaded, the app will be working without the internet as well. “The user can determine the GST rate for a good or service by entering the name or the chapter heading of the commodity or service,” the finance ministry said in a statement. “The search result will list all the goods and services containing the name which is typed in the search box,” added the statement.

Using the app:To download the GST Rates Finder app, one

has to download the GST Finder from Google Play Store on the mobile phone or Android tablet.

Search results on the GST Rates Finder app will list all the goods and services containing the name which was typed in the search box. The user can scroll down the list of description and when any specific item on the list is clicked, the display window will pop-up, containing details such as GST rate, description of goods or services and the chapter heading of the Harmonised System of Nomenclature (HSN). For example, any person who has been billed by a hotel or a restaurant or for footwear can cross verify the correctness of the rate of GST charged.

The Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) has also provided a GST rate finder on its portal cbec-gst.gov.in to help the taxpayers know the applicable GST rate on their supplies of goods and services. A taxpayer can search for applicable Central GST, State GST, Union Territory GST rate and Compensation Cess on a supply. The search can be made based on the description of goods or services or HSN chapter or section or heading number.

“These initiatives are aimed to serve as a ready reckoner on GST rates. This will empower not only the taxpayers but every citizen of the nation, to ascertain the correct GST rate on goods and services,” the statement said.

E-Way Billing:The GST provision, requiring any good more

than Rs 50,000 in value to be pre-registered online before it can be moved, is likely to kick in from October after a centralised software plat-form is ready, a top official said.

The provision, called the e-way bill, would be implemented after infrastructure for smooth gen-eration of registration and its verification through hand-held devices with tax officials is ready.

The information technology platform for the e-way bill system is being developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) along with GST-Network — the company which has devel-

oped the IT backbone for the new indirect tax regime.

The Centre has also decided to relax the time-line provision under which the e-way bill gener-ated by GSTN for 20 days for goods travelling more than 1,000 km. Earlier, this was 15 days.

As per the provision, GSTN would gener-ate e-way bills that will be valid for 1-20 days, depending on distance to be travelled — one day for 100 km, 3 days (100 to less than 300 km), 5 days (300-less than 500 km) and 10 days (500-less than 1,000 km).

Ccure Ongo AntiRansomware disables any kind of encryption of the data and gives an alert if any files begins encrypting thereby saving valuable data, the company claims, adding that mobile phones are now vulnerable to hacking as never before, as we use multiple apps and sites which may be malicious. These Malware attack the sys-tems and steals private informations, including photos ,videos, call logs, messages, and even the content in the Whatsapp.vMultiple applications are installed by us for vari-ous purpose. This apps makes our mobilephones prone to hacking by taking various access permissions. Trend Micro Incorporated, a global leader in cyber-security solutions recently discovered a Trojan Android Malware called Xavier that steals and leaks a user’s information silently. Xavier’s impact has been widespread. Based on data from Trend Micro Mobile App Reputation Service, Trend Micro

detected more than 800 applications embedded with Xavier have been downloaded millions of

times from Google Play Store. These applications range from utility apps such as photo manipulators to wallpaper and ringtone changers. Trend Micro also provides multilayered mobile security solu-tions to protect users from this threat. Trend Micro found that Xavier comes with some notable features that differentiate it from the other malwares. First, it comes with an embed-ded malicious behaviour that downloads codes from a remote server, then loads and executes it.

Bitdefender has identified new Petya ransom-ware’s massive cyber attack is currently unfolding worldwide. Preliminary information shows that the malware sample responsible for the infection is an almost identical clone of the GoldenEye ran-somware family.Petya ransomware is spreading fast with Ukraine being the worst hit country in last 24 hours. The large-scale attack by new ransomware malware Petya is mostly targeted on companies mostly in Ukraine and Russia. As per prior estimation hun-dreds companies have been attacked across the globe. What is happening after infection?Unlike most ramsonware, the new Petya/Golden-Eye variant has two layers of encryption: one that

gives us the opportunity to develop a strong mar-ket share in both commercial and the enterprise space,“ said Stephan Neumeier, Managing Direc-tor for Kaspersky Lab Asia Pacific.“We will also keep driving the business through our ever-growing channel partners by keeping them motivated and enabling them to deliver the most comprehensive cybersecurity solution to the our customers by building a strong eco sys-tem for the partners,” he added. Now on its sixth year, the NWA Information Management Awards is widely recognized in the region for honoring Asian leaders in information security, storage, and data management for the huge advances made in these fields over the last few years.

Second, it goes to great lengths to protect itself from being detected through the use of methods such as String encryption, Internet data encryp-tion, and emulator detection.Xavier’s stealing and leaking capabilities are dif-ficult to detect because of a self-protect mech-anism that allows it to escape both static and dynamic analysis. Xavier also has the capability to download and execute other malicious codes, which might be an even more dangerous aspect of the malware. Xavier’s behaviour depends on the downloaded codes and the URL of codes, which are configured by the remote server. To avoid detection, Xavier encrypts all constant strings, making static detection and manual anal-ysis more difficult. It performs net transmission via HTTPS to prevent its traffic from being caught and will hide its behaviour based on the running environment.

individually encrypts target files on the computer and another one that encrypts File System (NTFS) structures. This approach prevents victims’ com-puters from being booted up in a live OS environ-ment and retrieving stored information or sam-ples. Also, Petya uses a strong encryption algo-rithm and there is no way to create a decryption tool. The cipher asks $ 300 in bitcoins. Victims have already started to transfer money to the purse of criminals – according to data on Tuesday evening, more than 10 transactions. How it comes?According to preliminary information, the virus is spreading by same way like many threats, com-pany employees open malicious attachments which can come by e-mail. First version of Petya

was sent as CV attachments. The way of working Petya is known and has already been described in details by many computer security specialists earlier. Petya ransomware is coming to the local network in the same way as the famous Wanna-Cry virus, which attacked 300,000 computers in 150 countries in May of this year. What does it do?Petya ransomware encrypts sensitive and personal files without giving the possibility of decryption until a ransom is paid by the victim. It locks the computer’s screen and displays a message asking for money. In this case, no file is encrypted, only the user is forced to proceed with the payment. Furthermore, it blocks applications from running.

Worldwide IT spending is projected to total $3.5 trillion in 2017, a 2.4 percent increase from 2016, according to Gartner, Inc. This growth rate is up from the previous quarter’s forecast of 1.4 percent, due to the U.S. dollar decline against many foreign currencies (see Table 1.)“Digital business is having a profound effect on the way business is done and how it is sup-ported,” said John-David Lovelock, vice presi-dent and distinguished analyst at Gartner. “The impact of digital business is giving rise to new categories; for example, the convergence of “software plus services plus intellectual prop-erty.” These next-generation offerings are fueled by business and technology platforms

Bengaluru: City-based Cloudnine’s holistic vision of providing an ultimate birthing experi-ence and premier quality healthcare to women and children keeps them driving 24×7. To con-tinuously work towards maintaining the brand name and service quality, the IT Team was in need of an adequately equipped and well-mon-itored IT infrastructure. Amidst the constant pressure of ever expanding facilities and cus-tomers – Cloudnine was facing an uphill task to manage both ends seamlessly. Ensuring net-work connectivity, access and optimum oper-ational efficiency at each of its remote sites along with its Head Office (located in Banga-lore) became another prime area of concern.Challenges :Multi-site or multi-location branches were connected to the Data Center through MPLS / Leased Lines and ISDN Dialup / Broadband Connections. Frequent downtime in the MPLS connectivity was the major challenge faced by Cloudnine as it affected not just the devices but also the business-critical production sys-tem applications like Billing, Patient Monitor-ing Tools, Appointment Management Tools, Hospital Information System Tool, etc. Manag-ing over 400+ devices along with the inven-tory details was an overpowering problem also leading to chaotic environment while raising an issue for faulty performance of connectiv-ity / application / devices. To overcome these challenges, Cloudnine quickly deployed a FMS (Facility Management System) team. How-ever the team’s problem solving techniques were reactive and rather slow which did not cater to the real challenges making it difficult for Cloudnine to maintain the patient service quality. This again paved way for an immediate lookout for a simple and robust tool to manage & track the FMS team and increase the perfor-mance of all IT operations.

Artificial intelligence, machine learning and deep learning, all these words have moved out of the pages of science fiction and are making their presence felt strongly in our daily lives. than guesswork. The worldwide enterprise software market is forecast to grow 7.6 percent in 2017, up from 5.3 percent growth in 2016. As software applications allow more organizations to derive revenue from digital business channels, there will be a stronger need to automate and release new applications and functionality.“With the increased adoption of SaaS-based enterprise applications, there also comes an increase in acceptance of IT operations manage-

ment (ITOM) tools that are also delivered from the cloud,” said Mr. Lovelock. “These cloud-based tools allow infrastructure and operations (I&O) organizations to more rapidly add functional-ity and adopt newer technologies to help them manage faster application release cycles. If the I&O team does not monitor and track the rapidly changing environment, it risks infrastructure and application service degradation, which ultimately impacts the end-user experience and can have financial as well as brand repercussions.”

across emerging markets, powered the pres-tigious event in the annals of global business that discussed, analyzed and evaluated the leveraging power of Artificial Intelligence in the economic ecosphere. With a central theme of ‘Cloud Telephony Re-Imagined: The Trans-formative Power of A.I. in Communications’, the event, held in Bangalore on 23rd June, saw a participation of the leading industry experts and thought leaders on the issue. Artificial Intelligence and its effective and effi-cient implementation seem to be on the top of every CXO’s to-do list. However, in the absence of a clear blueprint, it becomes difficult for various businesses to gauge how and when A.I. can be

utilized to solve business problems fast and per-manently? With practical experiences shared by Knowlarity’s CTO Ajay Shrivastava and detailed insights from A.I. architects such as Enterprise Solution Architect at AWS Samir Karande, the event served as an eye-opener for entrepreneurs who were still in two minds about the feasibility of this state-of-the-art technology in present busi-ness environment. The Meetup also comprised enriching sessions studying the A.I. phenomenon on various planes such as its transformative role in business communications, Democratizing A.I. and specifically utilizing A.I. from the focal point of customer centricity.

GST brings surge in demand of Computers & Software CAIT urge Govt to exempt software from tax rate

There is a visible huge surge in demand of com-puters and software throughout the country,

thanks to the roll out of GST , motivating the masses to digitalise their business formats, including accounting and business commu-nications, etc. Unprece-dented rise in demand for both Computers &

Software in last 5 days comparing with month of June also indicate that traders so far away from digital technology is also willing to come on board which may result into huge transformation of informal business into formal economy. In the wake of encouraging more people to adopt dig-ital technology, the CAIT has suggested the Gov-ernment that for some specified period either exempt the Accounting software from tax under GST or bring the same under the tax slab of 5%. Currently, the software is capped under 18% tax rate.An per a feedback received by Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) from different parts of the Country has revealed that during the last five

days of the roll-out of GST, the demand for com-puter hardware has increased 20% while at the same time, the demand for accounting software has also increased up to 50% in comparison to the last month. About 40% of this demand comes from Metro and Big Cities whereas rest of 60% demand relates to smaller towns in different States across the Country. It is interesting to note that in metro cities, largely the demand relates more on up gradation of existing Computer Hardware & Software whereas in tier 2 & tier 3 cities more demand relates to new Computers & Software. This demand is also likely to increase in the coming weeks. The CAIT has maintained that nearly 60% of small businesses in the Country particularly in tier2 and tier3 cities still have not computerised their existing business format whereas GST is entirely based on e-compliance having four verticals e-tax, e-return, e-audit & e-assessment. Whether paying tax, or filing return, everything has to be routed through digital technology under GST, hence there is already a persistent demand for computer systems and accounting software in the market. However, currently there is huge dis-parity between the tax rates on different compo-

nent of com puters making them unfeasible for the small traders, according to CAIT.CAIT National President Mr. B.C.Bhartia & Sec-retary General Mr. Praveen Khandelwal said that there is huge difference of tax rates on computer hardware like CPU is @ 18% and the Monitor is @28% which is complicated and discouraging for the small traders while they endeavour towards adopting GST regime in true spirit.“Looking at the emerging demand and to promote more and more traders to adopt digital technology, it is urgent that all sorts of Computer Hardware should be capped under one tax rate may be at 18% and the spare parts of the computers may also be taxed at lower rates to make it easy for the traders to upgrade their systems without straining their finances.”- saidMr. Khandelwal Despite enormous growth in demand and sale of computer products the chal-lenge of disparity in tax rates stands as an obstruc-tion in meeting the market demand, according to CAIT. Moreover, this situation has also given a rise to chaos and confusion in smooth and faster adoption of India’s biggest tax reform and thus it requires immediate attention.

Karnataka Government to Identify 100 Most Innovative Startups in the State

Updates From Tirupur, Pondy Associations

The day two of CII’s flagship event the India Innovation Summit 2017 kicked off with a pow-er-packed inaugural session with speakers stress-ing on the importance of Ideation, Innovation and skill development. The two-day summit focused on key topics of innovation that will transform the way we do business. Themed ‘The New Wealth of Nations – Innovation and Intellec-tual capital’ the summit strove to strengthen the spirit of India to build an ecosystem that fosters and celebrates Innovation as the main pillar of national wealth. Stating that government of Karnataka has always been at the forefront of Innovation, Mr. Priyank Kharge, Hon’ble Minister for IT, BT, Science & Technology and Tourism, Government of Kar-nataka said that Ideation is the most important aspect of innovation, as it leads to invention and innovation. The Government of Karnataka inno-vation centres are more like ideation centres and the state is focused on fostering innovation at the bottom of the pyramid. The Government of Karnataka is constantly introducing policies and schemes to build the startup ecosystem of the state. The ‘Idea to POC’ scheme is one such step where a grant of up to 50 lakhs will be given for startups with proof of concepts.Emphasising the role of Government of Karnataka in building the startup ecosystem, he said that out of 7000 startups in Bengaluru 3000 are regis-tered with the government and the government’s startup cell provides them with relationship man-agers, mentors, legal help, IP reimbursement and networking opportunities. The Government of Karnataka is also collaborating with startup centres around the world through cross-border entrepreneurship projects and partnership with cities around the world. This has resulted in a vast pool of shared learning. The government is also assisting startups in idea validation which

according to him is the most important aspect for startups. To aid innovation in the state, the government has setup a Rs. 400 crore fund for startups, he encouraged entrepreneurs to make full use of this opportunity. Mr. Kharge said that the state will be announcing 100 most innovative startups in August this year under Elevate 100 Program, to make innovation marketable and scalable. He invited the industry to partner with the govern-ment in not only identifying the 100 startups, but in working with the government to ensure that these startups scale up.He said that the government cannot keep asking for investment without providing infrastructure. The government needs to create an environment of ideation that will lead to innovation which in turn leads to investment. He stated that we need to break the shackles of being termed as the Back Office of the World or the Silicon Valley of Asia and differentiate ourselves as Bengaluru – the city of Ideation and Innovation and a thought leader in emerging technologies.Speaking on Skill development Mr. Kharge said automation is the way forward and for this, it is important to upskill our workforce. He said that in recognition of this the Government of Karna-taka through its centres of excellence in Aero-space, Big Data, Digital Media, Artificial Intel-ligence, Cyber Security and several other verti-cals will ensure that the state has the requisite skillsets for emerging technologies. He said that while the government can facilitate these centres the industry needs to be the driving force.Ms. Rama Bijapurkar, Thought Leader on Market Strategy, said that in a country where we see so many ideas and innovations there is very little impact on the people. We see many ideas that are really good and many of these are from the grassroots. The problem is that we have several

missing pieces in the plan i.e. commercialization and scaling. This is where we need solutions. Normally the market will do this but in India, this is not happening. The only body in the country that is capable of scaling is the government, and market needs motivation and triggers from the government.According to her, the reason why the big ideas do not reach the market is because of dismal demographics in India, while India is high on the innovation index it is at a poor 142nd place in terms of per capita earnings. The country suffers from problems of poor infrastructure and failure of public goods. Among the 280 million house-holds in the country, only 20% i.e. 266 million people account for 45% of India’s income. While the households’ disposable income is 100 tril-lion rupees which is roughly Rs. 3.5 lakhs a year per household that is Rs. 30000 rupees a month. Out of this 10% earns more than a Rs. 100000 a month, 20% earns around Rs. 50000, another 20% earns around Rs. 30000 and the remaining 50% earns below Rs. 20000.A large population in India are self-employed and what Indian consumers generally look for is pro-ductivity tools and affordable intelligence. The consumer in India is willing, waiting and com-pletely ready for innovation, all they need is sup-ply to catch up.According to Dr. Gopichand Katragadda, CTO, Tata & Sons, the difference between startups in India and abroad is scale. Startups in India are generally built to exit and not to endure. When we build a startup we should plan for it to last at least a 100 years and if exit happens along the way it should be purely coincidental. Companies cannot afford to be stagnant, they need to con-stantly improve, innovate and scale up. Innova-tion and disruption is the new norm.He also said that we live in a dynamic world where we need to constantly adapt, research and collaborate. The industry needs to work with the government to ensure that regulations are in tune with times, it needs to leverage technology to keep abreast and we need to look at trends.

Pratheesh Mathew, president of the association. Since most IT products falls under 18% tax slab, there may be a hike of product pricing of 4%. Therefore IT market won’t get much benefits compared to other Industries. According to the association, the GST is definitely to strengthen the B2B market and will solve the threats from unethical online pricing.
