One in four teens (23%) have a tablet computer. 91% post a photo of themselves, 71% post their school name, 92% post their real name to the profile they use most often, 82% post their birth date, 24% post videos of themselves. Over 95% of teenagers use or access Facebook. As all of these technologies become more prevalent and necessary, few people would debate the necessity of students becoming skilled, savvy users of technology. What is often overlooked is intentional training in balance. Our children need help to practise moderating the use of media. And it starts in the HOME. As parents we need to be equipping ourselves in the use of this technology and correctly modelling responsible use in order to adequately educate and maintain balance in its use, and minimise the inherent risks associated with the digital world. Each year Mueller plays it’s part in partnering with parents and families, in the education of students in technology. Not only are students engaging with it in their day to day learning, but they receive intentional curriculum in becoming responsible digital citizens. Currently this is being taught across both Primary and Secondary year levels. We recognise the knowledge deficit many parents find themselves in also with such a quick uptake in the use of new technologies, and through a number of ways offer support to you also. A fantastic resource we have advertised before is called e-Quipped www.e-quipped.com. au. e-Quipped is an interactive and information based website designed to “partner with parents for good” in the critical work of maximising safety and learning opportunities, while minimising the risks to our children as they engage with technology. Articles on e-Quipped address a myriad of modern issues, from cyber-parenting to sexting. Good news about kids and technology also gets published. Articles cover cutting-edge research on the personal and academic benefits of technology, what’s right about social media, and great parenting/family apps: • Protecting Your Kids from Online Dangers: Spying or Educating? • How to rein in media usage • Rethinking Technology Bans • Security settings and parental controls on your devices • There’s a Sneaky App for That – Parent Alert • The Most Important App You (Should) Own • Building fences in Cyberspace If you find that you are feeling un-equipped or overwhelmed with the technology that surrounds you, e-Quipped is a great place to start. Later this term we will also be running some afternoon workshops for parents and families which will look at the effective use of iPads and phones, and managing them in the home. Information will go out shortly with more details of these sessions.

Any cake may be used only the decorating is judged.

Note: If you’d like your cake returned, please collect it from the display on Fete day, before 5pm. Any unclaimed cakes will be donated. Remember to label the underside with your name & class,

as well as any containers used.

Please make sure the back of your photo is labelled with name & class.

All entries will be displayed on Level 2 of MPAC, along with the competition winners, on Fete day. Prizes will be handed out in school, following the Fete.

Best Dressed Teddy Competition

Students please bring your Best Dressed Teddy and $1 Entry fee to the Library by Thursday 12th May

Judging will take place prior to the Fete and winners will be displayed on Fete day, along with all entries.

Prizes will be given to students the following week at school!

1st place | 2nd place | Encouragement Award Please note: Whilst all care is taken, we can accept no responsibility for any missing or lost items. Please do not take your teddies from the display on Fete day, they will be returned to class the following week. NAPLANNAPLAN will run for all Year 3, 5, 7 and 9 students on Tuesday the 10th to Thursday the 12th of May.

All students will need the following supplies:

• 2 HB or 2B pencils (mechanical pencils are not permitted)

• A sharpener• A rubber• A calculator

Students will be permitted to take in a water bottle.

The Dental van is at Mueller College for a limited time.

All children with a Medicare card are eligible for treatment from Prep to Year 10. These classes will be issued with a dental form. Year 10 and 11 students with a Health Care card or who are eligible for the Child Dental Benefit Scheme please come to the Dental Van for a form.

A parent will need to attend with any child under 15 years of age.

Please return dental consent forms as soon as possible and then an appointment will be issued via class.

SEWERS WANTED!We're needing a team of sewers who can come and help make some costumes (like the one below) for the Primary Musical "The Little Mermaid". At this stage we would only like adults to help please.

This will be happening every Wednesday afternoon in D23, from 3:10pm until 4:30pm beginning on the 4th of May.

You only need to have basic sewing skills and a willingness to be part of a team. Sewing machines will be supplied.

ART/CRAFT HELPERSThis term we will be holding a musical art support group and we’re needing some volunteers to help out with this process (grandparents and friends are most welcome) to paint/create props/sets and some costume materials for the Musical. There will be items like Jelly fish, fish on sticks, sting rays and lobsters to start with. You will be working alongside Liat Ham our Primary Art teacher who will be coordinating and demonstrating what to do along with other Primary Teachers from Mueller. You won’t need to be an expert, just have a willingness to learn and be part of a team.

This support group will be held every Tuesday afternoon fortnightly beginning the 20th of April in weeks: 2,4,6,8,10 from 3:30pm - 5:30pm or whatever time you can commit to.

BJTBJT is excited to announce it’s newest musical theatre workshop “Beauty and the Beast” for students 5-18 years of age on Thursday Afternoons from 3:30-5:00pm weekly during the School terms.

This workshop explores the acting, singing and dancing of Beauty and the Beast scenes and songs each week and culminates with a workshop presentation to parents at the end of 3rd Term.

Students learn skills in performance and build fun characters as well as grow in confidence and communication skills.

Students can enter at any time into the class which costs $20 per class or the cumulative of $200 for 10 week term. Brisbane Jr. Theatre holds workshops on Fridays as well and produces 4 major productions each year during the school holidays. The next BJT production is “Thoroughly Modern Millie” which runs July 1st and 2nd and auditions in early June.
