Dear All

It is expected that there will be major changes in the pattern of education in

days to come. The youth today are more impatient and they aspire more. At dif-

ferent levels we have to prepare ourselves accordingly. This reality was men-

tioned by Ishita Katyal, a ten year old from Pune during a session at TED2016

“Instead of asking children what they want to do when they grow up, you

should ask them what they want to be right now”.

Masked within this innocent statement is a truth which we should not ignore.

Education, peace, conservation and health are areas which require urgent atten-

tion and modification. The onus is on us to attempt and push things in the cor-

rect direction.

My best wishes to all the students who are appearing for their Board Exams and

Play Therapy Workshop by Add Life Caring Minds

Date:19th ,20th and 21st February 2016.

Teacher Attendees: Ms. Rebecca Das (Primary Play Therapy Workshop) ,Ms. Sejal Arora(Advanced Play

Therapy Workshop)

The Workshop focused on the fact that „Play is an integral part of learning‟. It was intended to explain that Play therapy is a structured, theoretically based approach to therapy that builds on the normal communica-tive and learning processes of children. The curative powers inherent in play are used in many ways. Therapists strategically utilize play therapy to help children express what is troubling them when they do not have the verbal language to express their thoughts and feelings. In play therapy, toys are like the child's words and play is the child's language. Through play, therapists may help children learn more adaptive behaviours when there are emotional or social skills deficits. The positive relationship that develops between therapist and child during play therapy sessions can provide a corrective emotional experience necessary for healing. Play therapy may also be used to promote cognitive development and provide insight about and resolution of inner conflicts or dysfunctional thinking in the child. It was a great and enriching experience for the attendees.

The workshop commenced with an award ceremony for the winners of the Chandernagore School

Competition.

A website on the history and heritage of Chandernagore was launched by Ms. Aishwarya Tipnis

on the sidelines of a round-table discussion to mark the 65th anniversary of the Treaty of Cession

on February 2, 1951, which officially gave control of the Hooghly town to the Indian government

from the French.

The idea of the website - www.heritagechandernagore.com - is to give users access to heritage properties of the former French colony. It has

evolved from what started off five years ago as an inventory of heritage buildings of Chandernagore as a part of the 'Heritage and People of

Chandernagore' project. The objective of the project was to put Chandernagore on the global map and raise awareness about its heritage.

Prof. Ajit Neogy inaugurated the exhibition on “Old Chandernagore”, which was created by Prof. Jean Deloche.

The speakers agreed that more and more community engagement workshops should be organized in Chandernagore to raise a consistent

awareness of the need to protect its built heritage.

What does town‟s heritage mean to the population of

Chandernagore ?
