IntroductionWith an FF-H1 fieldbus system, multiple Foundation fieldbus devices (hereinafter referred to as fieldbus devices) are connected on a single FF-H1 bus and then the communication schedule of the entire segment is shared among all devices. Therefore, engineering changes made to one fieldbus device or to one function block in a device may also influence the other fieldbus devices on the same segment or the process input/output operations related to the function blocks in them.

This document explains the range of influence and precautions by Foundation fieldbus engineering work task of the CENTUM system centering on the work to replace fieldbus devices as well as the work procedure for replacing devices. The systems that this document applies to are CENTUM VP R4 and later. (In this document, Foundation fieldbus is referred to as FF.)

This document does not contain information related to troubleshooting.

1. Precautions for Fieldbus Device Replacement

This chapter explains the range of influence on other devices and the precautions for fieldbus device replacement. When a fieldbus device is replaced because of a device failure or other problem, the precautions and procedure differ depending on the conditions of the fieldbus device to be installed as the replacement. There are the following two conditions for a field device to be installed as a replacement.

• Replacement of a device with one that is a different model or different revision (replacing a device with another model)

• Replacement of a device with one that all of the device vendor (MANUFACTURER), device type (DEV_TYPE), and device revision (DEV_REV) are the same (replacing a device with the same model)

IMPORTANTWhen the work to replace a device with another model is performed, an unintended operation (input device enters IOP state, degree of opening of a valve abruptly changes, etc.) may occur even with devices other than the replacement target in the corresponding segment. Implement safety measures as necessary for devices other than the replacement target as well (e.g. stop valves other than the replacement device in a safe direction). The work to replace a device with the same model can be performed without having any influence on devices other than the replacement target (other devices).

*2: IOP is an input open high alarm and OOP is an output open alarm. For details on IOP, refer to “5.2 Input Error Alarm Check” in Function Block Common Functions Reference (IM 33J15A20-01EN). For details on OOP, refer to “5.7 Output Open Alarm Check” in Function Block Common Functions Reference (IM 33J15A20-01EN).

*3: CNF and IOP/OOP occur when NM parameters are changed and the segment is reset. In this case, a warning message appears in the builder in advance. NM parameters are some of the parameters of the communication system and are defined on a segment basis. (For the meaning of a segment, refer to the glossary in the appendix. For details on NM parameters, refer to “D2.4.6 Tuning Communication Parameter Values” in Foundation fieldbus Reference (IM 33J20T10-01EN).

*4: When there is an output device in the same segment and equalization is executed on Device Panel, online loading of the function blocks may be performed, which may result in an output device with another valve positioner or other AO block on the same segment performing the fallback operation so output may change abruptly. To perform device conversion engineering work for a segment containing output devices, make sure you understand the device configuration in the segment correctly and then take preventive measures in advance by providing protection such as fixing the degree of opening of valves or safely stopping control.

TIPA segment reset is an operation based on the FF specifications for setting the parameters on the devices when the NM parameters are changed, and occurs when a model is changed or a device is added and the NM parameters are changed from the existing values for a reason such as the communication response time of the fieldbus device after the change or the newly added fieldbus device being slow. (It occurs because parameters are set on a fieldbus device only when the device starts up.) An IOP/OOP occurs in the CENTUM system because all devices in the segment become unable to communicate.

1.2 General Precautions for Device Replacement Work

Precautions for the Address of a Device to Be Installed as a Replacement

Clear the address of a device to be installed as the replacement. Then, connect the device to the segment without setting the address (assigning an address). For the work to clear the address of the device, use FieldMate or another fieldbus device adjustment tool.

Precautions for DownloadingIf you perform a download operation after any of the following engineering tasks, the FB schedules of the devices that are being engineered and the other devices that are connected to the same segment as the devices being engineered are changed, and as a result of this, the block mode of one of the devices may become O/S temporarily.

• Adding a new fieldbus device or deleting a fieldbus device using Fieldbus Builder

• Replacing a device

• Adding or deleting an FF faceplate block using Function Block Builder

• Changing a loop configuration using Function Block Builder

The following figure shows an example for a case where four devices are connected to the same segment and their FF faceplate blocks are defined in different control drawing sheets. If a download operation is performed after the FF faceplate block of a certain device is deleted, the block mode of one of the devices that are connected to the same segment as the deleted device becomes O/S temporarily.

When devices 1, 2, 3, and 4 are connected to the same segment, deleting the FF faceplate block for device 1 and then performing a download operation will cause the FB schedule to be changed, and the block mode of one of the devices becomes O/S temporarily.

Because device 5 is connected to a segment that is not the segment of device 1, device 5 is not affected even if its FF faceplate block is defined in the same control drawing sheet.

TI 30A20T40-01EN

IMPORTANTYou cannot know the block mode of which device is set to O/S temporarily until you perform a download operation. If there is a concern about adverse effects on the process by the block mode being O/S temporarily, take a measure such as safely stopping the process that is controlled by the device in advance.

Precautions for Changing Fieldbus Definitions during Plant Operation and Downloading as a Result (Online Maintenance)

The following precautions should be observed during online maintenance.• The communication of the target segment of the ALF111 may be reset if the NM parameters

are changed when adding, deleting, or replacing a device. (A confirmation dialog box appears in the builder before the download.) Consequently, the other devices in the same segment may enter the IOP/OOP state, which may have an influence on plant operation.

• If the following specific parameter values in an FF faceplate block are changed and downloaded from Function Block Detail Builder, the block mode of the blocks in the device is changed to O/S. After downloading, the block mode is restored from O/S, but the values at this point are set to the values specified in the Parameter Edit dialog box, not the values used immediately before in the device. For this reason, be sure to upload the parameters before performing such online loading that will change the following parameters.

The parameters that cannot be changed unless the block mode of the fieldbus blocks in a device is changed to O/S are the parameters in the table below and the extended parameters. The block mode is set to O/S when these parameters are changed in the Parameter Edit dialog box of Fieldbus Builder, or these parameters of a resource block are changed. The block mode is always set to O/S when the parameter values of a transducer block are changed.

1.3 Precautions for Device Replacement Using the Equalization Function on Device Panel

Precautions for Address SettingIf the address of a device to be installed as a replacement is the same as the address of an existing device other than the device to be replaced, the address will duplicate that of the existing device when the device is connected to the segment so communication may become impossible depending on the timing that the device starts up. Therefore, connect the device to be installed as the replacement to the segment from the default address state in which the address has been cleared.

SEE ALSO For details on the default address, refer to:

“2.3.2 Address” in Foundation fieldbus Reference (TI 38K02A01-01E)

Precautions Related to NM ParametersIf the NM parameters do not match, the device will not be displayed on Device Panel and the replacement work cannot be started even if the device is connected. You need to check that the NM parameters of the device to be installed as the replacement match before starting the replacement work to change models. After registering the CF/DD files of the device to be installed as the replacement to the CENTUM engineering PC, determined whether or not the NM parameters need to be changed by temporarily registering the replacement device using Fieldbus Builder. At this point, perform the device registration work but cancel all of the changes made in Fieldbus Builder including the download operation without actually performing loading.

If you determine that the NM parameters need to be changed, provide protection such as safely stopping control-related devices that will be affected in preparation for a segment reset. Then, use Fieldbus Builder to temporarily register the device to be installed as the replacement and execute downloading. At this time, a segment reset will occur. (A confirmation dialog box appears in the builder before downloading.)Delete the device that was manually registered temporarily at this point. The NM parameters that were changed with the temporarily registered device are retained and are used even if that device is deleted.

Precautions for When There is an Output Device in the Segment in Which a Device is to Be Replaced

During device replacement using Device Panel for the device replacement work, the fallback operation of the AO/DO blocks of an output device other than the device to be replaced in the target segment may cause actual output to change abruptly. (This is because the regeneration of control drawings is executed as part of the equalization process, causing the generation of differences also for the schedules of the other devices in the same segment so loading to the devices is performed.) Therefore, if there is an output device in the same segment, take a preventive measure in advance to provide protection such as fixing the degree of opening of valves or safely stopping control before performing equalization.

This chapter explains the work procedure for device replacement. The work will mainly be performed using the equalization function of Fieldbus Builder and Device Panel. For details on the startup method and operating procedure of Device Panel, refer to “D5. Device Panel” in Foundation Fieldbus Reference (IM 33J20T10-01EN). The procedure differs depending on the following conditions.

• Replacement of a device with one that is a different model or different revision (replacing a device with another model). The replacement procedure takes into account model differences and work other than downloading the master data from Fieldbus Builder is required.

• Replacement of a device with one that all of the device vendor (MANUFACTURER), device type (DEV_TYPE), and device revision (DEV_REV) are the same (replacing a device with the same model) Execute downloading of the master data to the device for after replacement in Fieldbus Builder.

2.1 Procedure for Replacement with FF Device of Different Model or Different Revision of Same Model (Another Model)

When a device is replaced with another model, the NM parameters which are the communication conditions of FF-H1 are occasionally not suitable for the device for after replacement, so the replacement work may not be possible as the device for after replacement cannot join the bus.To change the NM parameters, a segment reset from the communication specifications of FF-H1 occurs and control is unable to continue. Therefore, check whether or not there are NM parameter changes in advance, and if changes are required, devise a plan to provide protection such as safely stopping control or taking another measure.

Furthermore, even if a segment reset is not performed, when there is an output device other than the device to be replaced in the same segment, the actual output of the output device may abruptly change due to the fallback operation, so devise a plan to provide protection such as fixing the degree of opening of the valve in the main work of FF device replacement. The following shows the workflow for replacing a device with another model.

(3) Equalize the device informationTo associate the new device on the bus to the device in the project database, first equalize the device information.

SEE ALSO For details on equalization, refer to “D5.3.5 Equalization” in Foundation fieldbus Reference (IM 33J20T10-01EN)

IMPORTANTIf there is an output device such as a valve positioner in the segment where the device is being replaced, actual output may abruptly change due to the fallback operation of the AO/DO block of the device replacement output device. Therefore, take a measure such as fixing the degree of opening of the output devices in the same segment or safely stopping control and check that provision or protection is complete, and then perform the equalization work.

Select the new device in the right pane, then drag it to the device from before replacement in the left pane by keeping the left mouse button pressed and drop it on the device from before replacement by releasing the button.

The device information display window appears. Select [Equalization Mode] at the top left of the following screen.

F020123.ai

The parts that are different for the fieldbus device for after replacement are indicated in yellow. “Before replacement” refers to the values in the project database of the CENTUM fieldbus engineering function, and “after replacement” refers to the values acquired from the actual fieldbus device currently connected to the FF-H1 bus. Equalization is the work to remove these differences and match the field bus device and project data. When the model of the fieldbus device for after replacement differs, the block configuration of both may differ. In this case, the CF/DD files, device ID, and block configuration for the device for after replacement are imported and reflected in the project database for equalization to the configuration of the actual device for after replacement and its function block.Select the Device tab to display the device information and change the radio button selection of [Block Structure] to the side of [Devices on FF-H1 Bus]. There is no need to change the selection for the other radio buttons in this screen.

(4) Equalize the block parametersNext, select the [Block Parameter] tab and execute equalization of the block parameter differences. The items for which equalization is required are on the three [Basic Config], [Other Config], and [Other] tabs. The [Basic Observation] and [Observation] tabs contain parameters for monitoring so setting is not necessary as the differences are removed by executing equalization.

F020129.ai

There are the following two types of block parameter differences. One is that the parameter name is the same but the value differs. The other is a value is only present in one of the blocks. The following shows the approach for block parameter equalization.

• [Devices on FF-HH1 Bus] is selected as the master for a parameter that only exists on the actual device.

• [Devices on FF-HH1 Bus] is selected as the master for a parameter that is dependent on the device hardware or vendor.

• [Devices in Project database] is selected as the master for a parameter related to the control application in CENTUM.

*1: CHANNEL: Specify the number of the logic hardware channel on the TRANSDUCER BLOCK side connected to the I/O block to which this parameter belongs. In the case of the same model, the setting value of the device from before replacement can be inherited by specifying the device in the project database as the master. For details, refer to the instruction manual of the target device.

*2: Same model: Device vendor and device type are the same but the device revision is different. In this case, the value of CHANNEL does not change even if the device revision differs.

2.2 Replacement with the Same Model (Device for Which All of the Device Vendor, Device Type, and Device Revision are the Same)

When replacing a device with one of the same model, changes of the NM parameters do not occur so the procedures of “2.1.1 Checking Whether or Not NM Parameter Changes in Advance” and “2.1.2 Changing NM Parameters” performed when replacing a device with one of another model are not necessary. The work procedure is as follows.Furthermore, the providing of protection for output devices described in “2.1.4” is not necessary because there is no influence on the output devices in the same segment when device equalization is executed.
