Remakes

As you can see in Graph 1: Remakes by responsible party, errors

by the TKA Drawing Office result in the second highest number of

remakes.

Graph 1: Remakes by responsible party.

Compared to 2009-2010, the number of remakes assigned to the

TKA Drawing Office decreased from 131 to 113 in the last fiscal year.

This is a reduction of almost 14%. In this Bulletin we want to focus on

recent improvement measures implemented by the Drawing Office,

resulting in further reduction of remakes.

Measures for reducing remakes

The process of generating a drawing from measurement data supplied

by the FOs and resellers is manual. This means that factors like

skills, experience, and concentration have a significant impact on

the end result. Over the last 1.5 years, various measures have been

implemented to achieve a positive effect on these factors:

- increase in awareness and experience by discussing all

remakes assigned to the Drawing Office with the entire team

on a weekly basis;

- introduction of training sessions where experienced staff

conduct sessions with the rest of the team, resulting in

improved skill levels and uniform ways of working;

- renovation and expansion of office space to create a

comfortable environment in which staff can concentrate more

effectively.

Improvements have also been made to the drawing software. For

example, the input of certain parameters has been automated which

has eliminated the risk of manual input errors. Automated verification

of certain items of the configuration data has eliminated the risk of

items being forgotten.

More recently, an extensive check of the drawings produced was

introduced, which is carried out by experienced staff. The objective

was not only to eliminate errors, but also to give instant feedback and

thus enhance skill levels.

The results are quite impressive as you can see in graph 2. In this

graph, the bars show the development of remakes as a percentage of

the total production by quarter, and the trend line. The percentage of

remakes fell from over 0.9% to almost 0.4% in the final month of the

second quarter!

Graph 2: Percentage of remakes of total production, due to TKA drawing errors

Through registering and analyzing data we aim to understand

which areas we need to improve in and monitor the results of the

measures taken. We count on your support to provide us with

accurate and detailed data and feedback so that together we can

improve our products and processes.

If you would like any further information regarding remakes, or

if you require specific data or reports to support your business,

3. Connect the power supply to the charging contacts on the

rail as usual. For this you can use the closed end crimp

connectors that are supplied with the charging contacts.

If you prefer, you can also use the Scotchlok connectors that are

provided as well. The advantage of the Scotchlok is that stripping

is not required.

Caution

When you first run the unit onto the lower charging contact (reset

point) make sure that ‘rSt’ appears in the display. Also, check

that ‘rSt’ does not appear on any of the other charging contacts.

Modify the wiring connections if necessary.

Levant OutdoorRemoval of the shrouding

To remove the shrouding from the drive in order to gain access

for maintenance, you must pull out the two pins („tree clips“)

that hold the shrouding in place.

Most people will reach for one or two screwdrivers to hook behind

the head of the pin. The problem with screwdrivers is that they

are sharp and can easily damage the shrouding. Therefore, it

is better to use an Eeprom puller as shown in the pictures (you

might already have one to pull the Eeproms from a Flow1).

GeneralCancelation costs

Due to the change in production process (production of rail parts

instead of orders), the time at which an order is canceled has

an impact on the costs involved. As the cancelation scenarios

explained in the Technical Bulletin of June (issue 130) caused

confusion, please find further explanations below.

Flow2

There are two ways to cancel an order:

1) Entering an order from the start through to ordering extra

racks

This is the moment from entering an order (status 100) until

the start of the planning process (status 501) at 12:00 CET

by the TKA Customer Support. Nothing has been ordered,

and as the order has not yet been planned, there are no

material costs involved. The cancelation costs in this scenario

can be found in the transfer price list.

In case of cancelations around this time, besides canceling

the order in DOP, please contact the Customer Support

department by phone.

2) Racks are ordered up to and including powder coating

As soon as the production planning process is started at

12:00 CET it can’t be stopped. This is because orders are

produced by railpart and not by order, so there is no way

to skip specific orders from the production sequence. Only

the rail parts are produced; the chair and drive will not be

manufactured. A discount of 50% applies to the rail related

transfer price to calculate the total calculation costs.

The rail related parts are marked (*) in the listing below:

Levant

For the Levant lifts there are two possible cancelation scenarios:

1) Orders without premium rail and orders with no produced

premium rail

In this situation all stock can be transferred back to the TKA

stock. The cancelation cost is a fixed fee.

2) Orders with a produced premium rail

In this case the production and material costs are invoiced

together with the fixed cancellation fee. Man hours and

material are also charged against a fixed fee.

The total of the cancelation costs for the premium rail is

therefore always the same fixed price.
