Student Development TheoryStudent Development TheoryPrograms based on student development models are designed to stimulate self-understanding, to strengthen skills, and/or to increase knowledge. Basic Assumptions1. The individual student must be considered as a whole.2. Each student is a unique person and must be treated as such.3. The total environment of the student is educational and must be used.4. The major responsibility for a student's personal and social development rests with the student.
Contextual StatementThe success of the DSAEM is a direct result of the collective contributions of its departments.
These contributions are enhanced by each departments commitment to Texas Tech University (TTU) student success.
The Input, Environment and Output (IEO) model (Astin, 1993) and the Psychosocial Theory of Student Development (Chickering, 1993) are two such models.
