    To produce better outputs and results in a shorter amount of time,by concentrating on certain areas where we have inherent strengths.

    Five areas where India has a core competency for integrated action:

    o Agriculture and food processing

    o Education and health care

    o Information and communication technology

    o Good quality infrastructure

    o Self-reliance and critical technology

    Indian economy growing at an average annual growth rate of 8%GDP.

    o Agriculture growing at 1.2% only target 4%

    Agriculture contributes 19% to our GDP and holds 75% of Indiaspopulation.

    Challenges faced: Lack of technology application and poor rural infrastructure

    Low output compared to input

    Fragmented land holding

    Suicides of farmers(more than 1,00,000 farmers since 1997).

    (i) losses due to uneven weather (untimely rains).

    (ii) constantly increasing burden of private debts to be paid.

    Steps necessary to improve the situationo Introducing corporate agricultural system:

    Corporate companies will invest their money and technology inagriculture and share the profits with farmers.

    Subsidizing farmers and implementing crop insurance system

    o Increase storage and processing facilities: In India, only 2% of the agricultural output is processed. In developed

    countries, it is as high as 80%. The granaries are overflowing and rotting due to inadequate storage

    facilities.

    o Tightening of agricultural credit system: The agricultural credit system should be tightened so that farmers get

    credit only when they make informed decisions.

    o Healthcare is an important sector in the vision of developed India.

    o Opportunities for using bio-diversity, intellectual resources, IT and

    knowledge network, bioinformatics, and spin-offs from space,

    defence and nuclear technologies for societal missions.

    o India ranks among the few top nations having rich biodiversity. Inthe herbal area, there are potential applications for developing

    multiple products for nutrition, prevention and cure of diseases.

    The aim is to achieve health for all by 2020.

    Major Tasks

    o Eradication of 3 major diseases HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis andwater borne diseases .

    o Mobile clinics in rural areas equipped with X-ray, ECG, bloodtesting, etc

    o Encourage women's education in rural areas since the birth rate iscontrolled in states with high women literacy rate.

    o Dependence on medical imports of diagnostic and therapeuticequipment should be reduced.

    Future Opportunities

    o Emphasis should be laid on stem cell properties which haverecently opened new avenues that may be useful for treatingfunctional impairments caused by the death of specific cellpopulation.

    o The healthcare industry is positioned to become biggest employerin all countries.

    A nation that is peaceful and devoid of Terrorism

    o No real prosperity possible until Terrorism is uprooted.

    o The violent acts which are intended to create fear (terror), areperpetrated for a religious, political or, ideological goal; and

    deliberately target or disregard the safety of non-combatants(civilians).

    o Terrorism in India primarily attributable to externally-sponsoredorganizations and Naxalite radical movements.

    o The regions with long term terrorist activities today: Jammu &Kashmir, Mumbai, Central India (Naxalism) and the Seven sister

    states in the north-east (independence and autonomymovements).

    Inequality and Non-acceptance

    Cause for discontent among simple masses. Frustrated with thesystem and sometimes misguided by external agents, they take uparms.

    Quelling Terror- holistic measures required!o Spread of development and education to the affected areas to kill

    caste/religion/indigenousness based hatred.

    o Better ties with neighbours:1. Consolidation of indian goodwill and repute in the southeastasia.

    2. Strong steps against terror-sheltering nations and to removethe image of India being a soft target .3. Our brethen should develop a sense of belonging to India!

    Start from within

    o UNDERSTANDING & RESPECT: Once people start understandingand respecting each other,they would begin developing high

    viewpoints about the others.o EQUALITY: This is the most important thing to understand.

    Considering everyone equal should be the main aspect.

    Peace Direct say that anyone can be a peacebuilder :

    It could be a teacher, developing a curriculum for peace.

    It could be an imam and a priest, working together to helpcommunities of different religions understand each other better.
