Dates to Remember

What another busy month we had in March with our visiting

singer and song writer, Jim Valley; making kites with the Master

Kite Maker, Mr. Hsieh; the PTA Book Fair; Portfolio Conferences

and Spring Break. I hope you all had an enjoyable and relaxing

Spring Break. I went to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to attend the

annual Teachers’ Conference and see the sights of Kuala

Lumpur.

We have finished our study of Air and Weather.

Our last topic study for the school year is rain forests. Through

the study of the rain forests we hope students will develop an

understanding of the interdependence of all living things and the

impact that human beings have on the world’s environment.

We are creating a rain forest in the second grade hallway and

are learning lots of cool facts about the animals, plants and

people that live there.

We will be exploring these enduring understandings:

•All living things are interdependent

•Humans have a positive and negative effect on the

environment.

•Rain forests are an essential part of the world ecosystem.

You can talk about these questions with your child:

•”A living thing or a diamond ring,” which has more worth?

• Do human beings help or harm the rain forests?

• Why should we save the rain forest?
