Good assessment should measure good teaching and learning. Find out which good instructional practices support reading
and writing skills as assessed on the PARCC and which ones teachers need to tweak a bit. We’ll focus on types of texts,

You have a stack of student papers before you. Which ones should be assessed, and if so, how
should they be assessed? Learn how to give feedback that encourages and supports students to
improve their writing rather than making them feel their papers have been bludgeoned with a red
pen! We’ll look at sample student work and show a variety of assessment systems.
