A. Preparing for Reading and Writing on the PARCC (Gr. 3+)

Fri., October 16, 2015

Good assessment should measure good teaching and learning. Find out which good instructional practices support reading

and writing skills as assessed on the PARCC and which ones teachers need to tweak a bit. We’ll focus on types of texts,

questions, discussion, and writing assignments that will most benefit students. Early Bird Registration: Oct. 6, 2015

B. Responding to and Assessing Student Writing (All grades)

Fri., October 23, 2015

You have a stack of student papers before you. Which ones should be assessed, and if so, how

should they be assessed? Learn how to give feedback that encourages and supports students to

improve their writing rather than making them feel their papers have been bludgeoned with a red

pen! We’ll look at sample student work and show a variety of assessment systems.

Early Bird Registration: Oct. 13, 2015

C. Getting Started with Writing Workshop (K-8)

E. Closer Reading for Deeper Learning (Gr. 6-12)

Fri., Nov. 13, 2015

A.M. Closer Reading for Deeper Learning (Gr. 6-12) Featured Speaker: Carol Jago, past
