School Centred Initial Teacher Training

• The programme is taught by experienced, practising teachers, and often tailored towards local teaching needs.

• All SCITT courses lead to qualified teacher status (QTS). Many, though not all, will also award you a postgraduate certificate in education (PGCE) validated by a higher education institution. Southend SCITT provide the opportunity of gaining a PGCE through its partnership with Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU) and Master Level credits. Our courses last for one year full-time.

• We offer School Direct Training - salaried and unsalaried (details to follow).

• SCITT courses follow the academic year, so to start your training in September you need to apply during the preceding academic year. (More about how to apply later.)

Take Note

‘expectation’ of a job at the end of the course is not a guarantee of a job!
