    Christs School Art department

    Christs School Art department aims to stimulate pupils interest and enjoyment inall Art disciplines, so that they are equipped to work with and use a wide range ofskills competently and confidently. We pride ourselves in being an inclusivedepartment.

    We aim to do this by:

    Encourage pupils to recognise the appropriate uses of, and be confident withall mediums.

    Deliver the National Curriculum effectively. Help pupils to understand the consequences of Art for the individual and

    society.

    Improve pupils understanding of the ethical implications of Art.

    Use Art as appropriate, to improve the learning experiences of pupils withspecial educational needs.

    Using ICT where appropriate to extend learning.

    In order to achieve the above aims, the school allows pupils to:

    Gain a wide range of experience of Art at Key Stage 3. Discuss analyse and respond to a wide range of Art movements and cultures.

    Develop a personalised and reflective approach to student learning.

    Experiment and succeed in a variety of medium techniques.

    Create beautiful, relevant and exciting works of art.

    Staff

    The Art, Design Technology department currently has 1 full time members ofstaff and 1 part time members. We have two excellent technology technicianswho assist with preparation of Art materials when required.

    Teaching

    Key Stage 3

    The Key Stage 3 curriculum has been designed and set up to be fun and inspireour students as well as meeting the requirements of the Art National Strategy.Students receive 3 x 50 minute lessons per fortnight and are taught in mixedability groups of 30.

    Key Stage 4

    Art is an optional subject at Key Stage 4. Each pupil receives 3x 50 minutelessons a week. The students are trained to take responsibility for their owndevelopment; we encourage students to work to their target level at all times.

    Key Stage 5

    Our new sixth form opens in September 2014. It is an exciting time for theschool, and for the Art department. You will be able to set up a Key Stage 5course from the beginning.

    Resources and support

    Each Art classroom has a projector with speakers. The Art departmenthas 3 computers and has an A4 colour printer for use by the department. Inaddition the Art department has a kiln, we deliver a clay project to local feederprimaries.

    Christs currently has 2 computer suites each containing 30 computers plus ateachers machine. All rooms contain projectors and screens. These rooms areavailable for booking.
