Ross LovegroveIntroduction and range of work produced by Ross Lovegrove.Born in Cardiff, Ross Lovegrove studied industrial design at Manchester until 1980 before transferring to the Royal College of Art in London.

He worked for several years for Frogdesign in Germany, where his projects included working on designing the Sony Walkman and computer chassis for Apple.

As an industrial designer, Ross Lovegrove has worked for many internationally important manufacturers and is regarded as one of the most important contemporary industrial designers.

In 1996 Ross Lovegrove designed "Crop", an armchair with a soft seat in organic forms. Another design is "Bone", a chair with a maple frame.

In 1997 Ross Lovegrove designed "Magic", an innovative chair with a seat that seems to hover in space.

In 1990 Ross Lovegrove co-designed the "Basic" thermos jug for Alfi - it is possibly the most copied design in the world.

His works are often inspired by natural forms and Ross Lovegrove is also an expert in ergonomics.

The materials and manufacturing techniques Ross Lovegrove chooses are leading-edge and follow the guidelines prescribed by Green Design, which calls for ‘ecological awareness informing the entire design process and more durable products’.

He believes that the entire life cycle of a product is to be taken into account, which means that the designer must always keep in mind environmentally friendly manufacturing and the durability of the products designed.

The innovations and new ideas that Ross Lovegrove has introduced

The water bottle was created for the mineral water company Tŷ Nant between 1999 and 2001. It looks like a twist of running water and the bottle itself can also be crushed for more efficient disposal and is easier for children and the elderly to grip than regular bottles.

The first project to be designed and produced by Lovegrove was the staircase. It is made out of fibreglass and unidirectional carbon using a manufacturing technique called bladder moulding.

Lovegrove likes to say ‘DNA design, nature and art’ lies at the heart of his work.

Philippe StarckPhilippe Starck is a legend of modern design. He's known for his luxurious hotels and boites around the world -- notably the Peninsula Hotel restaurant in Hong Kong, the Teatron in Mexico, the Hotel Delano in Miami, the Mondrian in Los Angeles, the Asia de Cuba restaurant in New York -- designing the total environment from layout to furniture to linens.

But he has made perhaps his most permanent mark on design through his bold reworkings of everyday objects. In reimagining and rethinking the quotidian, he has produced some of the iconic shapes of the 20th century, including his leggy chrome juice squeezer , the reimagined Emeco aluminium chairs, and the witty Louis ghost polycarbonate fauteuil.

When Starck turns his bold vision toward a chair, a shoe, a toothbrush, it's clear he thinks deeper than the glossy surface.

Philippe Starck presented the “Photo-Me by S+ARCK” photo booth at the Saatchi Gallery in London.

Resulting from the collaboration between the French creator and Photo-Me Group, the “Photo-Me by Starck” sets a new style and symbolizes the classic and timeless elegance.

As usual, Starck brought to light his innovative vision at the service of technology with a pure and essential design that also includes a glowing and welcoming orange seat developed with the highest technology.

“It is an honor for me to work on such a project as this cabin has always been following us throughout our life, it is like a grand-mother watching over us permanently from the photo for our 1st ID, to the bus school pass or our 1st passport.It is also, for quite cheap, one of the 1st vehicle of expression, in total privacy. Whenever we discover an object or a place designed by Philippe Starck, we enter a world of wall-to-wall imagination, surprises and fabulous fantasy.For more than three decades, this unique and multifarious creator, designer and architect has been a part of our daily lives by creating unconventional objects, whose purpose is to be "good" before being beautiful; iconic destinations, that take the members of his "cultural tribe" out of themselves and, most importantly, towards something better.

His father, an inventor and aeronautic engineer, gave the young Philippe Starck the desire to create and the capacity to dream.Several years and several prototypes later, he was commissioned to work for President François Mitterrand. This was also when he began designing furniture for leading Italian and international firms.

Philippe Starck designs his hotels and restaurants in the same way a director makes a film. He develops scenarios that will lift people out of the everyday and into an imaginative and creative mental world. His hotels have become timeless icons and have added a new dimension to global cityscape.

Through Philippe Starck’s concept of "democratic design" – increase the quality objects at lower prices so that more people can enjoy the best – he was a lone voice at a time when design was turned exclusively towards an elite.

There are few areas of design he hasn't explored: from furniture to mail-order homes, motorbikes to mega-yachts, and even artistic direction for space-travel projects, to name but a few.

Philippe Starck believed in the green long before ecology became fashionable, out of respect for the planet's future. Early on, he created the Good Goods catalogue of non-products for non-consumers in tomorrow's moral market, and set up his own organic food company. More recently he developed the revolutionary concept of "democratic ecology" by creating affordable wind turbines for the home, soon to be followed by solar-powered boats and hydrogen cars.

Philippe Starck is a tireless and rebellious citizen of the world who considers it his duty to share his ethical and subversive vision of a fairer world. He stays tuned in to our dreams, desires and needs - sometimes before we
