1. GEARSEF Important Dates: 1. Student Registration Forms and Payment are due February 18, 2014
• This is a hard deadline! Projects will be reviewed by the fair SRC/IRB committee during the week of February 18th.
• To prevent delays please ensure all documents have been signed (by you, parent, and child as indicated on each form).
2. Fair Date- March 20, 2014 2. GEARSEF Project Submission Rules:
1. All projects MUST have the following ISEF and GEARSEF forms: • GEARSEF Student Registration Form • ISEF Form 1- Checklist for Adult Sponsor (requires teacher signature) • ISEF Form 1A- Student Checklist • ISEF Research Design Plan • ISEF Form 1B- Approval Form (requires parent signature)
• All members of team projects must complete this form • Abstract
2. Teachers will have one week after notification to send in missing forms. After one week, the student will be disqualified and will not be allowed to compete.
3. GEARSEF Awards and Judging: 1. We will award up to the top three places in each category per division 2. The Alabama State Science & Engineering Fair will be held on April 3 – 5th at the University of Alabama-
Huntsville campus • Top Award Winners from both the Junior and Senior Level will advance to this competition • Students that advance to the state competition will be responsible for their own travel expenses
3. The International Science and Engineering Fair will be held on May 11 – 16th in Los Angeles, CA • Two Senior Level Award Winners will advance to this competition • GEARSEF will pay for these two winners to attend the ISEF Competition in May 2014
4. Broadcom MASTERS • The top 10% of Junior Level participants who place 1st – 4th in their category will receive a
certificate of recognition and a letter inviting them to complete an online application for the 2014 Broadcom MASTERS National Competition.
4. GEARSEF Dress Code 1. Students are expected to dress professionally for this event.
• Girls- dresses/skirt or slacks and a blouse • Boys- suit and tie or dress pants and blazer

• ISEF finalists and their teacher and/or parent should meet a fair official immediately after awards ceremony

• Exhibit area will be closed to everyone except the exhibitors, judges, and fair officials
• Students should be at their projects 11:15am Project Judging Review Period
• Exhibit area will be open to judges and fair personnel only • Students should NOT be at their projects
12:00pm Lunch (on your own) & Public Viewing Period
• Exhibit area will be open to the public • Students are not expected to be at their projects • Fair personnel will monitor projects
1:30pm STEM Career Focus Activity (details forthcoming)
• Coordinated by the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering 3:15pm Project Takedown 3:30pm Awards Ceremony
