    Introduction

    India plays a significant role in world tea trade, beingthe world's

    largest producer, consumer and exporter.

    Hence fluctuations inIndia's tea production, consumption and

    exports are enoughto disturb the international tea trade.

    The total turnover ofthe tea industry is around R s.10, 000

    crores

    India is the largest producer oftea and ranks fourthinterms of

    total tea exporters inthe world.

    Tea industry is one ofthe chiefforeign-exchange earners is some

    ofthe third world countries.

    The labour intensive tea industry directly employs over 1.1 million

    workers and Women constitute 50% ofthe workforce.

    Overview

    In all aspects oftea production, consumption and export, India has

    emerged to be the world leader, mainly because it accounts for 31%

    ofglobal production.

    Itis perhaps the only industry where India has retained its

    leadership over the last 150 years.

    Tea productioninIndia has a very interesting history to it.

    The range oftea offered by India :

    1. the green TEA

    2. Blacktea:- CTC (cut, tear, curl) and orthodox Tea,

    3. from the aroma and flavor ofDarjeeling Tea

    4. strong Assam TEA

    5. Nilgiri Tea - remains unparalleled inthe world.

    Overview

    The total turnover ofthe tea industry is around Rs.10,000 crores.

    Since independence tea productionhas grown over

    250%, while land area has justgrown by 40%. There has been a considerable increase in exporttoo in

    the pastfew years. Total netforeign exchange earnedper annum is around Rs. 1847 crores.

    The labour intensive tea industry directly employs over1.1 million workers and generates income for another10 million people approximately. Women constitute50% ofthe workforce.

    Due to good monsoonthis year the

    production oftea has increased.

    Price oftea has increased ininternationalmarket so the demand has dip marginally.

    Political unrestin Arab world will affectthe

    Indian exports as India exports largely in

    middle east.
