Another year ofWomen's Day (8thMarch) rolled by. Theday was celebrated

with vigour andenthusiasm in ourIslands too.Colourful and vibrant

hoardings sendingout beautifulmessages, papersroaring aloud for

awareness at everycorner of thisarchipelago, women'sorganizations , NGOs

leaving no stoneunturned to drawattention besidesprojecting their

a c h i e v e m e n t stowards women of theIslands. Yes ,Women’s Day isdedicated to allwonderful women of theworld and theachievements made bythem on various fieldsby projecting theprogressive phase of the21st century women, butwe must realise that

In search for a change in mindsetonly a handful of themcannot portray progress. On the other hand, tilldate, in India, we hear andsee news of femalefoetuses being wrappedand thrown in rivers andgarbages or torn intopieces by dogs, This isstill the fate of womenin India, she is worn offher right to be born intothis world, forget abouther growth andprosperity. Till today, the Indiansociety wants a boy tocomplete the family . Thethought that a girl cannotcomplete a family, paralysis the societytowards spir it ofwomenhood and addingto it is the worst irony ofIndian society, blind mythsand dogmasretires thefamily planning methodsto rest, until a boy arrivesin the family, it dosen’tmatters even if he is the4 th or 5 th born in line tothe girls already existingin the family. The one

thing that matters is thatwhen a boy is born intothe family, it becomes aproud moment for all andthen we blame thegovernment forincreasing prices, risingunemployment and mostimportantly r isingpopulation. I believe, we as asociety are responsiblefor all sorts of crime orviolence, be itmolestation or rapecases. A change has tobegin from home, and itis we, the women first, who are responsible forthis change to happen.Teach your boys how torespect women insociety ,how to behavetowards their sisters athome, to girls inschools, towards thewomen counterparts inoffice and mostimportantly, to valuethem as their equalgender and not asweaker sex or deprivedor exploitable ones.

A herculeanresponsibility lies on allthe mothers of the nationtowards sowing the seedof gender equality in theminds of their sons and ithas to be done by themothers first and thenthe family, thereby thechange will starts fromthe family and thenmoves towards societyand then only the countrywill develop.According to me, everyyear on the eve ofWomen's Day, each ofthese societal issues hasto be chosen and an oathhas to be taken to bringa change for goodbesides ensuring thatWomen's day can becelebrated ina more meaningfuland benefit tingmanner.Saluting Womenhood

far better than those in North India including Delhi. He said the Islands are lacking

super specialty treatment facility and many initiatives have been taken by the

Administration to augment the heath sector. He disclosed that, by June 1, this year, a

Cath Lab will be inaugurated at G. B. Pant Hospital which will cater to all heart related

ailments. Similarly, to cater to orthopedic related ailment, facilities for spinal surgery,

knee/ hip replacement surgery will be made available from June 1 at G.B. Pant Hospital.

The target of the Administration is to ensure that Islanders are provided with quality

can be done away with, said the Lt. Governor.

The Lt. Governor complimented the APWD team for successful completion of the

project, despite various hamstrings.

The Lt. Governor also called upon the people to come forward and express their

grievances, if any, either to the Officers of the Administration or directly to him for

mitigating the issues.

In his welcome address, the Principal Secretary (APWD), Shri Raajiv Yaduvanshi

the facility of one sedimentation tank, five slow sand filter units each having a capacity

of 98000 litres , water reservoir having the capacity of 2.25 lakh litres, one pumping

station and a Laboratory. The filter units were completed in June 2016 and laying of

pipelines was completed in December 2016.

He said, the source of water for the plant is Tirur Nallah which has an average discharge

of 20 lakh litres per day during rainy season and about 2.5 lakh litres per day during

summer season. The water treatment plant will provide treated water to a population of

3300 people of eight villages viz. nearby areas of Tirur, Collinpur, Herpetabad, Temple Myo,
