Synopsis of Today’s Lesson

Lesson: “What Lack I Yet” Elder Larry Lawrence, Taught by Lis Malmgrenhttps://www.lds.org/general-conference/2015/10/what-lack-i-yet?lang=eng

Quotes to Ponder“As we travel along the strait and narrow path, the Spirit continually challenges us to be better and climb

higher. The Holy Ghost makes an ideal traveling companion. If we are humble and teachable, He will take us by the hand and lead us home.”

“We need to ask the Lord for directions along the way. We have to ask some difficult questions, like ‘What do I need to change?’ ‘How can I improve?’ ‘What weakness need strengthening?’”

Elder Lawrence encourages us to examine what is keeping us from progressing by regularly asking the Lord “What lack I yet?” then quietly wait for a response. “The Holy Ghost doesn’t tell us to improve everything at once. The Spirit works with us at our own speed, one step at at time, or as the Lord has taught, ‘line upon line precept upon precept.”

“The Spirit can show us our weaknesses, but He is also able to show us our strengths. Sometimes we need to ask what we are doing right so that the Lord can lift and encourage us. When we read our patriarchal blessings, we are reminded that our Heavenly Father knows our divine potential. He rejoices every time we take a step forward. To Him, our direction is ever more important than our speed.”

Challenge from Elder Lawrence “I would like to suggest that each of you participate in a spiritual exercise sometime soon, perhaps even

tonight while saying your prayers. Humbly ask the Lord the following question: ‘What is keeping me from progressing?’ In other words: ‘What lack I yet?’ Then wait quietly for a response. If you are sincere, the answer will soon become clear. It will be revelation intended just for you.”

Spotlight: The Munk Family

David is a marketing writer and editor for Xlear, Inc., a health and wellness company in American Fork. He studied English at BYU and finished last April. A few of his broad and varied interests include soccer, cello, cre-ative writing, Daft Punk, Legos, and baby brown bears. He is currently writing his second fictional manuscript for readers ages 8-12, and is working with an agent to prepare it for eventual publication. In his spare time you will find him reading middle-grade fiction, listening to the Star Wars: The Force Awakens soundtrack, or eating cookies and milk (and possibly all at the same time!).

Rachel graduated from BYU four years ago in Humanities with an emphasis in Art History and Italian. She lived in Italy for two months following her graduation and is completely in love with all things Italian. She is one of 15 biological, adopted, and step children from three continents (although she is one of the boring Ameri-can ones). Two of her favorite places in the world are the grocery store and her kitchen, where she is always creating something yummy. Although her current profession is The Awesomest Mom In The World, she has worked in publishing and as a museum registrar & collections manager, and hopes someday to earn a master’s degree in art history.

Jonas was born in February of 2015 and is coming up on his first birthday! We can’t believe how quickly he is growing up. He is innately curious like his dad, and stubborn like his mom. He loves books, dinosaurs, being outside, grabbing people’s noses, and, most of all, playing with Daddy! His cultured appetite includes things like cheerios, yogurt, and mommy’s toes (but only on special occasions!). In his spare time he enjoys reading from classics like, “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?” and “Go Dog, Go!” and getting into, well, everything.
