“ ...the beauty of the
surrounding country, with its
rich background of wooded
hills, altogether formed one of
the finest scenes imaginable.”
A brief history of TaymouthThe Campbells of Glenorchy first entered Perthshire in the 15th century but it was not until 1550 that the
first building commenced on the site where Taymouth Castle now stands for Sir Colin Campbell of Glenorchy, the 6th Campbell Laird of Glenorchy.
The Castle was completed by 1559 and was typical of its time as it was constructed in the Z-plan – a fortified house with a hall and chamber. Sir Colin died in 1583 and his title passed to ‘Black’ Duncan Campbell of the Cowl. He was
a pioneer of forestation and planted a large number of the imposing trees still standing at Taymouth. His great grandson John became the first Earl of Breadalbane and his son, the 2nd Earl.
Queen Victorias VisitThe 2nd Marquis adapted the west wing between 1838 and 1842 to include a library and state bedrooms which were used by Queen Victoria and the Prince Consort in 1842 during their stay. Taymouth inspired the romantic
imagination of the young Queen Victoria, who wrote in her Leaves of a Highland Journal:
“At a quarter to six we reached Taymouth... the beauty of the surrounding country, with its rich background of wooded hills, altogether formed one of the finest scenes imaginable.”

The HotelAs one of the finest castles in Scotland, Taymouth Castle will offer grandeur and stature from the outside and detailed architectural splendour on the inside. The individually themed rooms will reflect the castle’s impressive history while
providing exceptional comfort and style.
Owners and guests will be welcomed in the traditional reception area before ascending the stone stairs within the magnificent galleried tower to gain access to their hotel suites. The extensive and ornate reception areas also
provide generous spaces to relax and unwind, read a book or enjoy a leisurely coffee.
The RestaurantsThe impressive principle rooms of the castle provide the perfect setting for a range of restaurants, including the
spectacular Barons Hall and the Breakfast Room.
Taymouth’s position in the Highlands will enable chefs to draw from a range of fresh ingredients from seafood from the West coast, beef from nearby Angus and salmon from the River Tay which borders the estate. There will also
be informal dining and a traditional whisky bar.
The SpaIn addition to enjoying the experience of a 5 Star ‘boutique-style’ hotel, guests and residents will be able to avail
themselves of the spa, pool and gym complex.
The hotel will be the perfect setting for the luxurious destination spa. Every aspect will enhance the therapeutic treatments including a wide range of natural facials, body treatments and massages. The relaxation rooms and the spacious,
naturally lit covered castle courtyard will allow visitors to rest before and after treatment.
GolfThe golf course is an original design by James Braid, the famous creator of over two hundred golf
courses throughout the UK, including the renowned layouts at Gleneagles, Blairgowrie and Carnoustie.
The remodelled golf course has been inspired through a collaboration between Scotland’s current number one home base golfer Stephen Gallacher and international golf course specialists Weller Design.
The new routing will measure 7,039 yards from the championship tees, with a par of 72.
Great care has been taken to restore the original design features that had been lost over time, especially in the bunkers, and a number of the existing tees and green complexes.
Incorporating the River Tay into the new routing has also been a priority, as previously it was not visible from any location on the original design.
In the castle itself, a spike bar and golf reception will be located on the ground floor.
Outdoor PursuitsTaymouth Castle will offer a range of facilities including fishing rights to one of the foremost salmon rivers in Scotland.
There are a number of other country pursuits including shooting, riding, walking and sailing on the nearby Loch Tay, which is within minutes walk of the gates of the estate. Beyond the estate await the magnificent Scottish Highlands
which provide the perfect opportunity to experience some of Britain’s finest scenery.
The estate gillies will be happy to arrange any of the activities, including advice on fishing or shooting.
The local community also offer a range of activities to suit guests’ individual requirements.
