Even though the girls’ cross country season did not end the way they wanted it to, they finished fourth at state and in top places in numerous other meets. The team placed first or second in all of their regular season meets; they placed first at the Scotus Invite. Senior Jessica Schaecher said, “[The meet we worked the hardest at was] the Scotus Invite because we had a lot of competition, and we were familiar with the course, so we ran really well that meet.” At the Centennial Conference Meet, the girls’ team also finished first. Senior Carly Fehringer said, “[My favorite meet of the season was] the conference meet because Lincoln is my favorite course, and we all competed well.” The girls finished third at the district meet in Wayne and fourth at the state meet in Kearney. “Even though the outcome [of districts and state] wasn’t how our team would have liked, we were still proud. Getting third at districts was a wake-up call, but it helped us practice even harder the week before state,” senior Kelsey Kessler said. Their season ended with a record of 96-9. “Cross country is a season that is only a couple months long, but it has given me memories that will last a lifetime,” junior Jessica Lahm said.
