Define.
To define 729 students is impossible. Are we thestate championships? Are we the academics? Do we
play in a band on the weekend, star in a play, catch thewinning touchdown, or offer prayers at Mass? With so many
students doing so much, how can we be defined?
The answer is literally in our name: Catholic, meaning "universal."The singular item that defines us isn't found in any one student, butrather, in the constellation of talents, faces, gifts and misgivings that
make up the Skutt Catholic whole. We aren't one thing; we're definedby everything we do.
So, no matter if the talents are found on the field or lab, with avolleyball or microscope, singing or studying, we define ourselves
anew every day. Skutt Catholic is both truly Catholic, andcatholic; everything on the pages of this book defines
everything that happened this year, and in that swirlingdisplay of color, hard work, faith, and fun, our
year was defined, every single day.

Define the People of Skutt Catholic...
We are not defined by our uniforms.Underneath each collared shirt, plaid skirt, orkhaki pants, are unique and creative people.
We are defined by our Catholic faith, aspiringto make a difference within our communityeveryday and help others in need.
We are not defined by our size. We may besmall, but within our community we havecreated an environment that helps everyonearound us succeed and prosper.
We are defined by our accomplishments bothinside and out of the classroom. We are notdefined by our status. Everyone contributes toour community in their own unique way. Inthe end, we are all much more than just adefinition.
The people of Skutt Catholic are a communitythat comes together to ignite and inspireothers to make a difference in the world andleave their own mark.

The bright lights go up and the cheers of the crowdpound in the ears of players as they storm the field.Dedicated fans, complete with battle paint, scream outtheir pride. The Skutt Catholic football team proved once againthe honor of the SkyHawks through their immenselypowerful season. "We came up just short of our endgoal," senior Trevor Gibson said, "but I know none ofus would trade the season for anything. Weappreciated the support all year and loved playing forthis school." While the fearsome team was stopped just shy of astate title, it's clear that they left it all on the field in afinal game that will certainly go down as one of themost hard fought in high school history. "The seasonwas a great success, even though it didn't end the way
we wanted," states Coach Turman. These exceptional young men truly exemplified themeaning of teamwork and showed everyone howimportant it was to their impressive season. "It was agreat year," recalls senior Andrew Hoffman, "It didn't turnout the way we wanted it to, but I had an amazingseason with my best friends. Through their immense willpower and work ethic, thefootball team made a name for themselves as the boysthat always put up a fight. The season ended with a hardfought game that exhibited the power of the SkyHawks.Never has there been more delight in a crowd thanwhen the hard work and strength of this team shonethrough on the field one final time. They provedthemselves worthy to wear the silver, green and blackand struck pride into the hearts of their fans.

Define the Student Life at Skutt Catholic...
Think about the first time you walked into the halls ofSkutt Catholic. You read the fliers for Dance TeamTryouts, you heard the announcements for TheatreAuditions, the excitement of Homecoming was in theair.
In that moment, you might have missed it, but thoseactivities defined how you would experience the nextfour years as a SkyHawk.
From the friendships formed to the communitieschanged, Skutt Catholic shapes and defines who eachand every one of you will become. Our involvement inthe community defines our character, our desire tohelp others and truly make a difference.
The plays and musicals our own students put on defineour creativity and passion. We truly show our spirit andpride in every pep rally, student section, and event weparticipate in.
Each school dance surrounded by our truest friendsmakes up the memories we will look back at andremember. Not the test we've failed, or the mistakeswe have made because those do not define us, butrather the all the events we've succeeded in, the goodwe have done, and the legacy we have left behind.
No matter if you were a spectator, a participant, or alead role, the time we've had here has defined us asALL as SkyHawks.

Behind the scenesOften times students get caught up in all thehomecoming festivities, and it's easy to look past allthe hard work that is put into making this dancehappen. Every year the members of student councilput so much time and effort into makinghomecoming special. "We start planning long beforethe dance itself, but the Friday before is wheneverything comes together," member Cate [Gruidl'19] said. She added "I have to admit sometimes itfeels like we won't ever finish but it's always pulledoff and it's absolutely incredible to see all of ourhard work come to life." Homecoming week is somethingstudents look forward to each year. There is so much to look forward towith the themed dress days, the peprally, powder puff and the varsityfootball games, as it all leads up to thehomecoming dance on Saturday. Thisyear's theme was "SkyHawk Sock Hop"which included a 50's theme to theweek and dance. During the week thestudents were allowed to dress down intheir best attire for the day. It startedwith Monday's theme "JammingJammies" and students were to weartheir coziest pajamas. There was not abetter theme for a Monday! Sadly, seniors missed this theme day but wereoff at their retreat doing bigger andbetter things to kick off theirhomecoming week. The theme forTuesday was "Hop Back to the 50's."SkyHawk students pulled out theirleather jackets, and poodle skirts as

I Believe I Can Make a DifferenceCommunity Involvement Day
At Skutt Catholic students, teachers and faculty are taught to live out the motto"make a difference." Community Involvement Day, or CID, is a chance for theentire Skutt Catholic community to go out and make a difference in Omahatogether. CID is one of those special days at Skutt Catholic. This year's themewas "I Believe". "Wherever we go and whatever we do, we are called to bepresent," service coordinator Mrs. Julie [Schmitz] says. "Sometimes it is morevisible than other times. Such as the house we built with Habitat or the foodthat we collected and organized. Other times, it might not be as visible, but it is
those times when the effect can be even more profound – through a simplesmile, conversation, sharing laughter, or by just listening to someone’s story."Students spend time working with the elderly, children, those withdisabilities and helping on work sites. Different sites vary from schools, retirement homes, Habitat for Humanity sites, Food Banks, and many moreplaces around the community of Omaha. After a day of service, studentscan go home at the end of the day knowing they have left an impact ontheir community.

o, pioneers!Ever wonder what it was like to live in the 1840s? Rendezvous is achance for Skutt Catholic students to experience the hardships, adventures, and the journeys of those who traveled out West. A lot ofpreparation goes into this project. Students work on research forweeks before the day of the project and prepare the infamousstructures. Some junior students pride themselves on their structureswhile others do the bare minimal. These structures are made by
students and are their shelters for the day. After all the hard work onrendezvous day at seven am the Skutt Catholic Prairie soon becomesfilled with pilgrims, Native Americans, and their businesses they'vebrought. Through out the day students perform skits, socialize, eatfood, and (try to) enjoy the outdoors. Mr. Marty [Plum] notes "Unlessthere is a tornado, bad weather such as rain, snow, cold temperatures, will not cancel rendezvous." Students truly live like its 1840.

Coping with the coldRendezvous is notorious for having bad weather. For some reason it alwaysseems to be frigid, rainy, snowy, windy and miserable the day of the project. However, the show must go on, and students are forced to put up with theweather. Here's how a few students chose to cope with the cold.
Stone [Mendez '18] shows hisdedication to staying warm bydigging a fire pit into the ground.
This group of juniors decided towarm up by gathering together, getting active, and kicking thesoccer ball around.
