This shot is an establishing shot, it shows the scene where the video is set and sets the atmosphere for the rest of the video – in this case, it’s a high school storyand is most likely a love story.

Here’s a mid-shot, which shows the main character in the music video. This shows that it will be from a girls perspective. This is reinforced by the POV shot.

+After the initial POV shot, there are jump cuts for a while, which speeds up the pace of the video. But between the mid-shot and the POV shots, there are shot such as this. The fast pace, quick shots make it seem as if the video is transforming into another one. The mise-en-scene is very elegant, with

a lot of golds, whites and silvers. This reinforces the idea that this is a love story, since it is much like a ball. Alongside the mise-en-scene, the video is illustrative, the video literally represents the lyrics, the video is a Romeo and Juliette storyline.

The lighting is high-key, which reflects the romantic mood of the video and adds to the romanticism, as it makes the video seem happier and makes the main character ‘glow’. This aids the audience in working out the key idea in the video, allowing them to connect with the character. This links to the uses and gratifications theory, where the audience could use Taylor Swift as an idol, and as if they have a personal relationship with her.
