arrive. The Reference Staff can also download

copies of forms for the price of 10¢ per page (black

Library staff cannot assist you in preparing or

filing tax forms, but we will do our best to

locate them for you.

Toddler Time Mondays at 10:00 a.m. Ages: 24 months - 35 months with a caregiver Limit: 15 Length: 30 minutes This interactive storytime will feature short stories, puppets, action rhymes and songs! All of these activities will help Toddlers develop language and listening skills and social interaction.

Tiny Tots Storytime Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m. Ages: 6 months - 23 months with caregiver Limit: 15 Length: 30 minutes (20 minutes story time and 10 minutes optional play time) Join us for an interactive lap time, with songs, dancing, toys, and books! Along with bonding with your tiny tot, they will be exposed to early literacy and language skills!

Preschool Storytime Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m. Ages: 3 - 5 years (not yet in Kindergarten), Children encouraged to attend independently Limit: 15 Length: 30 minutes This interactive storytime will feature short stories, action rhymes, and songs! All of these activities will help children develop language, listening, and early literacy skills and social interaction.

Bilingual Spanish Storytime Thursdays at 10:00 a.m. Ages: 2 - 5 years with a caregiver Limit: 15 Length: 30 minutes Children will have fun with engaging books, songs and activities. Storytime will help build early literacy skills and help children learn Spanish through stories and music. Niños se divertiran con libros interesantes, canciones y actividades. El programa les ayudara fortalecer sus habilidades de aprendizaje temprano y les ayudara aprender español a base de historias y musica.

Drop In Storytimes Family Jam Tales (Bedtime Storytime) Every Monday at 6:30 p.m. (Except in August and December) Children of all ages and their families Limit: 30 Length: 30 minutes Join us for a storytime designed for the entire family. A wide variety of stories, music, and more will be shared. Some Monday storytimes require registration as noted underneath.

Valentine Storytime and Craft Monday, February 3rd at 6:30 p.m. Ages: 2 – 7 years old with a caregiver Limit: 15 Length: 45 minutes Listen to some Valentine-themed stories and make a valentine bug craft. Registration is required.

Story and Stuffed Animal Workshop (Plush Valentine Kangaroo) Monday, February 10th at 6:30 p.m. Ages: 3 -10 years Limit: 20 Length: 45 minutes A shortened Family Jam Tales will be followed by the Stuffed Animal Workshop. Noah’s Ark Animal Workshop is a mobile teddy bear workshop, where kids bring their beary own stuffed animal to life. During the stuffed animal workshop, kids are read a story, hand stuff their own plush pal, then make a wish on a rainbow star before tucking it safely inside their new friend! The workshop concludes with naming the animal with a birth certificate and taking it home. Parents recommended to stay with the child, younger children Age 5 and under must have a parent present in the room. Registration is required.

Special Storytime: Ocean Storytime and Fish Craft Monday, February 24th at 6:30 p.m. Ages: 2 – 7 years old with a caregiver Limit: 15 Length: 45 minutes Listen to some Ocean-themed stories and make a Fish craft. Registration is required.

New Launchpad TabletsThe Youth Services Department has added new LAUNCHPAD tablets to the existing collection. These are available for check out. They are preloaded tablets with educational games and material. LAUNCHPADS are for young patrons and teens, but they need to be checked out with an adult card.

SELF-DEFENSE Workshop Saturday, February 1st at 1:00 p.m. Grades: 2nd – 8th Limit: 15 Length: 60 minutes This will be a FUN hands on seminar practicing physical skills and discussing self-defense awareness. Our seminar will focus on practical and easy to learn self-defense techniques that can be used to protect oneself from standing or ground positions. Everyone welcome, techniques can be tailored to fit the individual, anyone can defend themselves! Jeff Waldrom, owner of the Academy of Self Defense and Fitness and with 25 years’ experience in Martial Arts will be conducting the seminar.

Valentine Storytime and Craft Monday, February 3rd at 6:30 p.m. Ages: 2 – 7 years old with a caregiver Limit: 15 Length: 45 minutes Listen to some Valentine-themed stories and make a valentine bug craft. Registration is required.

Family Coloring Night Tuesday, February 4th at 6:30 p.m. Children of all ages and their families Length: 1 hour No registration is required for this event, but space is limited. Coloring is all the rage with everyone from preschoolers to grandparents. Why not share the joy of coloring with those you love the most? It’s a great way to connect with your child and share in conversation. We have simple pages for children and more complex pages for older coloring enthusiasts. Crayons and colored pencils will be provided. Bring the whole family for a fun and relaxing time!

Valentine’s Crafts Thursday, February 6th at 3:45 p.m. Grades: 3rd - 6th Limit: 15 Length: 45 minutes Use a clothespin to create a secret message for a special person in your life and create a valentine’s creature that will charm your friends and family!

LEGO Zone Saturday, February 8th at 11:00 a.m. Ages: 3 - 12 years Length: 45 minutes No registration is required for this event, but space is limited. Join us for fun and imaginative LEGO-building! We will provide the LEGO’s and you can bring your creative design ideas! All materials must stay at the library, but parents may bring cameras to capture the creations. Any child age 5 or under must have caregiver present in the program room.

Valentine Party Tuesday, February 11th at 6:30 p.m. Grades: 1st - 5th Limit: 20 Length: 1 hour Celebrate the upcoming Valentine’s Day by coming to our PARTY! There will be games, activities, and some snacks will be provided as well. Come dressed in your best and have your picture taken in front of a shimmering backdrop. Some props will be available! Parents welcome to stay.

Toddler Yoga Wednesday, February 12th at 10:00 a.m. Ages: 18 months – 3 years Limit: 12 Length: 1 hour Toddler Yoga combines unique kid-friendly yoga poses with songs, stories, and games to create an enriching parent/child activity. Each class is personalized around this age’s curiosities as they learn yoga through social interaction, repetition, and play. Children will also learn how to relieve frustration, improve motor skills, and increase attention span by actively following directions. Help your child build the foundation for a healthy and fit lifestyle while having fun! No yoga experience is required. In Toddler Yoga class, one sibling is welcome to come to class too! Valentine’s Friendship Necklaces Wednesday, February 12th at 6:00 p.m. Grades: 3rd - 8th Limit: 15 Length: 45 minutes Since Valentine’s Day is almost here, this is a perfect opportunity to make a Valentine’s necklace for that special someone! We will be creating two unique necklaces, one for you and one for a friend or loved one. All Supplies will be included.

Unicorn or Dragon Mailbox Thursday, February 13th at 3:45 p.m. Grades: 3rd – 6th Limit: 15 Length: 60 minutes Join us in decorating a unicorn or dragon mailbox. You can collect your cards in your personalized mailbox. Supplies will be provided.

Book Flix: James and the Giant Peach (Running time 80 minutes. Rated PG)

Saturday, February 15th at 11:30 p.m. Grades: 3rd – 5th Limit: 25 Come to see the Movie based on Roald Dahl’s book and stay for a brief 30 minute book discussion. You are encouraged to read the book before coming to the Book Flix program but not required. The discussion could be done from watching the movie and the book can be read after! Snacks will be served!

Explore and Play STEAM Program Tuesday, February 18th at 6:30 p.m. Grades: 1st – 5th Limit: 20 Length: 60 minutes Learn about Newton’s laws of Motion by building and playing with Marble mazes and straw construction sets. This promotes creativity and imagination. Also, learn about basic laws of magnetism by experimenting with the Magnets provided!

Milk and Cookies Storytime at Panera Bread Thursday, February 20th at 10:00 a.m. Ages: 2 - 5 years (Please register child only for storytime, one parent can stay with child) Limit: 12 Length: 30 minutes Join us for a special storytime at Panera Bread located at 10553 S Cicero Ave, Oak Lawn, IL 60453. A wide variety of stories, music, and more will be shared. Panera Bread will be providing free milk and cookies to the participants after the storytime.

Stencil Painting Thursday, February 20th at 3:45 p.m. Grades: K - 5th Limit: 15 Length: 45 minutes Paint a canvas using a stencil of your choice, pompoms, and paint!

DIY Ceramic Sweet Treat Saturday, February 22nd at 11:30 a.m. Grades: 3rd – 12th Limit: 20 Length: 45 minutes Join us and have some frosty fun using embellishments and paints to sweeten up this sweet treat bank. Before you know it, you will be shouting, “I scream, you scream, we all scream from having so much fun saving our pennies.” Supplies will be provided.

Registration is required. Read to Rover Tuesday, February 25th at 7:00 p.m. Grade: K - 6th Length: 1 hour Limit: 12 children (10-minute time slots) Improve your reading skills and make a new friend by reading aloud to a therapy dog. The dogs and handlers are from Rainbow Animal Assisted Therapy. Children in grades K-6 can come, practice reading aloud to a licensed therapy dog, and build the confidence needed to be successful readers. This program is for children who already know how to read. Please sign up in person at the Youth Services desk for a 10-minute time slot. Children will have to attend independently. Parents cannot be in the room with them.

Passive Program: Birth - 6th Grade Guess how many candy hearts are in the jar on the Youth Service desk. The child coming closest to the actual amount will win a prize! One guess per child please.

Retirement Readiness Wednesday, February 5th at 7:00 pm Registration is required. No PTPLD card necessary. Are you thinking about Retirement? Are you Retired? Do you need to start saving for Retirement? Spend some time with Anthony Di Miele, Certified Financial Educator, with the Heartland Institute of Financial Education for a discussion on Retirement Readiness. Topics will include identifying retirement resources, developing a written strategy, avoiding mistakes when transitioning retirement assets and identifying lifetime income sources. Having a healthy lifestyle and a daily routine are also important parts of Retirement Readiness.

Build Motivation and Reduce Procrastination Monday, February 10th at 10:00 am Registration is required. No PTPLD card necessary. Cherity Machnick, LCPC, from the Stickney Township Public Health District will be giving a workshop on motivation and procrastination. Attendees will learn to differentiate between types of motivation, learn about positive motivation, and develop strategies to build motivation and reduce procrastination.

Before You Call the Plumber Tuesday, February 11th at 6:30 pm Registration is required. No PTPLD card necessary. A look into the basics of how water comes into a home and drains back out and a description of the things you can do yourself to stop leaks and keep the drains running quickly. Presented by handyman Dan Findley.

Birdseed Bites to Bring the Birds to Your Yard Saturday, February 15th at 2:00 pm This program is limited to 20 PTPLD participants. Patrons may register up to 2 guests. Do you like birds, birdsong, and helping to support your local ecosystem? If so, come join Adult Services Department in making bird seed bites! We will be working with peanut butter and various seeds to make take home bites you can hang on your trees or bushes. Feeding birds all year around isn't necessary-but birds need our help most during the winter and spring months when natural seed sources have depleted. This program will run once a month from February through May. Additionally, we will look at a PowerPoint of the various birds native to Illinois. Please be aware of nut and seed allergies.

Armchair Tour of the Solar System Tuesday, February 18th at 7:00 pm Registration is required. No PTPLD card necessary. Explore our Solar System without stepping foot outside the library! We will showcase some of the latest NASA spacecraft images of our Solar System, touching on our stunning Sun, giant planet Jupiter, dwarf planet Pluto, and everything in between. Presented by Michelle Nichols, the Astroeducator. Cartoon Confidential Tuesday, February 25th at 7:00 pm Registration is required. No PTPLD card necessary. Learn about the life of a professional cartoonist. Draw along or just listen as cartoonist Mark Anderson exposes his mysterious path to a cartoon career, the undisclosed process of writing captions, classified information on drawing, and tons of hilarious cartoons.

We will discuss different browsers (Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Google Chrome) as well as the general features of each one, including browsing history, bookmarks, and toolbars.
