NELSON PINE LVL
TASMAN UNITED
V
SOUTHERN UNITED
Sunday 5th November 2017
Trafalgar Park, Nelson
2pm
Michael “Duffy” du Feu…
We would like to pass on our sincere thoughts and best
wishes to Mike’s family who are hopefully all here today.
We will miss Duffy greatly and what he did to help Tasman
United in our first year. He will be extremely hard to replace
and he will never be forgotten.
Stu summed Duffy up well in the poem he wrote for his funeral earlier this year – and here’s
just a few paragraphs we think are perfect for today…
He was a special someone, that dedicated a lot to football
And he liked boat racing and the speedway, and of course a good pub crawl
And regardless of wherever he was, at times he could be scruffy
But to everyone who ever met him… he soon became of course just Duffy
And more recently with NBF, he’d really started to thrive
He became a massive asset, and ended up good mates with Clive
It was as if his passion had returned, and his love for the game reignited
And he had one hell of a season helping… with the first year at Tasman United
And with all sincerity when we heard the news, that Mike had passed away
The feeling that we all had, it was a very upsetting day
There’ll be an empty space with him not here, and we’ll forget him never
With our own memories we all have of him… the name Duffy will live on forever

General Manager’s Report…
Welcome to Trafalgar Park for the first home game of the National League
season. It is truly wonderful to see the support that Tasman United has within the
community and am sure it impresses the visiting teams to be playing in front of a proper
crowd. Let’s make some noise and ensure the team is spurred on by the support from the
sidelines.
It is important to continue on from where we finished last season at Trafalgar with 3
straight wins and to make this a fortress for Tasman United with no team visiting
expecting an easy game. It is a key factor to ensure we amass a good percentage of
points at home this season and to build confidence this first game is very important.
I would also like to take the opportunity to thank all those behind the scenes that make
these home games so special, and the work undertaken by the TASMAN United committee
to ensure the viability and sustainability of the club cannot be underestimated.
I acknowledge our sponsors also, without their support we cannot do what we are doing
and the goodwill extended by our major sponsors, I hope, is appreciated across the region.
Our major sponsors Nelson Pine LVL, Sprig and Fern Brewery and Bayleys deserve the full
support of this community in their business endeavours as they show such support to
community teams, like Tasman United. That is not to forget all the other sponsors and
deserving of mention are Football Unlimited, Plus4 Insurance, Absolute Energy, NZME,
NextGen Energy, BMG, BCM, The Sign Shop, Kahurangi Estate, and Nelson Golf Club, who
all contribute to the cause wholeheartedly and considerably.
A warm welcome is extended to our visitors from the South and I know they will appreciate
the facilities and home team hospitality either side of the game.
Please also afford a warm welcome to our visitors from Southern United, and I hope the
team enjoy their visit to Nelson and have a safe journey home.
Go Tasman!!

Coach’s comments…
Firstly I would like to welcome all our great supporters back to
Trafalgar Park for the second season of Tasman United.
We have all been looking forward to this day for a while now, and I hope that we perform
well and make you proud.
I would also like to extend a warm welcome to our friends from Southern United. Hopefully
both of our teams have a better season that last year.
Below is a photo of the kids waiting for the players signatures at the end of our recent
successful open training session – it was great to see so many keen fans and it was a
Fantastic evening. Let’s hope we give them something to cheer about today.
It’s great to be back at Trafalgar Park, and I wish you all a very enjoyable afternoon. And I
would also like to pass on my personal thoughts to Mike Du Feu’s family – we will miss him
this year and everything he did for us.
Regards, Davor Tavich (Senior Head Coach)

About our visitors…
Southern United FC Incorporated was established in 2004 under
The name Otago United Incorporated, from the four associations within
the Football South Federation. Otago United Incorporated (the name until 2103)
was formed by 21 clubs within the Football South Federation, from Timaru to
Invercargill.
Based in Dunedin, being the sole representative from Federation 7, the club was
originally named Otago United Incorporated for the first 9 years of its history.
During the 2013/14 season, Otago United Incorporated changed its name to
Southern United FC Incorporated (Southern United FC) on 16 August 2013, to
better reflect the wide geographical area which it covers. The area covered by
Southern United FC includes Southland, Otago and South Canterbury.
The squad this year has a fresh look from last season, with a number of new
faces joining the team from both within and outside the Football South region.
They join a core of eleven players returning from last season’s campaign. And
with a couple of squad spots still open, coach Paul O’Reilly has made it clear
that he is still on the lookout to recruit players hungry to strengthen his team.
O’Reilly acknowledges there are a
number of players brought in from
outside the Football South region and
sees it as a necessary part of the team’s
development at this stage. O’Reilly is
aiming to develop young players
coming through their system and
region, but that takes time, and
the players he has in the squad
are hungry and enthusiastic to
succeed on the national
stage, and have already
made Dunedin home.
