We have been at FOB Wolverine for over a month and I am pleased with our progress in Religious Support. There is much work to be done over the next several months and in preparation for our replacements, but I am confident that we will continue to be blessed in our efforts.

The Soldiers of TF Wings are very fortunate to have the best chapel facility in RC South. The chapel is probably the best building on our FOB. Having such a facility allows our Religious Support Team to support more than just religious programing. We are pleased that Zumba and Insanity fitness programs are currently being offered at the chapel. We are also happy to host various meetings and training events. In a few days we will host a dinner for members of our Command and Afghan National Army guests.

The chapel is more than adequate for all religious programs. Currently we offer a Roman Catholic Word service, two protestant services, a LDS service, an Islamic prayer time, and a Bible Study (Experiencing God). I‟m very happy that we have seen a steady increase of the number of Soldiers at our services. We are relieved to finally receive a visiting priest for our Roman Catholic Soldiers this week. It has been over 100 days since the last visit.

We are also blessed to have an exceptional Chaplain Assistant. SGT Tellier has been effective in preparing for all services and activities of the chapel. He also serves as the Task Force UPAR, drummer in our chapel band, and is completing is bachelor‟s degree. He is a great example to other Soldiers and leader among Chaplain Assistants.

Things are going exceptionally well here, and we look forward to making a few improvements. For instance, we plan to have a confessional both built as well as an alter for prayer (for our Orthodox Allies). Furthermore we plan to improve our loft storage area by adding a wall, which will keep boxes of goods hidden from sight.

We have some good plans for the Easter season including a Good Friday service and sunrise service in one of the Desperado Hangers. We will also show several Christian movies including the Passion

came out and the Task Force had three Staff Sergeants selected for SFC (E7), they were SSG Davy

from C Company 3-101st Avn Regiment, SSG Dejesus-Hernandez and SSG Mason both from E Com-

pany 4-101st Avn Regt (FSC), congratulations goes out to these three NCOs. The Captains list as

well as the Major list came out and once again Task Force Wings had several well deserving officers

to be selected. We have also held two Promotion Boards here at FOB Wolverine, with all Soldiers

being recommended for promotion, with one of those Soldiers already being promoted as of 1 April,

and that was SPC James from the S2 shop, he was promoted to Sergeant. He was able to be pro-

moted in the conference room here in the Headquarters Building in front of his family via VTC.

On 2 April Task Force Wings had an outdoor BBQ sponsored by HHC, 4-101st Avn Regt. There was

food prepared by the mess hall and the Soldiers of HHC, and then there were some Soldiers who

enjoyed playing a game of volleyball, to include Wings 06. And last but not least Task Force Wings

conducted its first FOB Ceremony inside the Mass Hall on the 4th of April; there was a live band that

performed all throughout the dinner, they were from the 10th Mountain Division band. There were

a couple of promotions and several awards and coins that were handed out, and there were also a

couple of video clips that were shown. All in all it was a good ceremony, one that everybody here

on FOB Wolverine was able to enjoy, both military and the civilian contractors.

We are extremely blessed to be at FOB Wolverine. Soldiers are doing very well and counseling

numbers are low. Bringing religious support to a professional organization such as TF Wings is a

great honor. I am grateful for the excellent support we receive from leadership at every level, and

from our families and friends back home. God bless you all, and God bless America.

Families of TF Wings,

What a month it has been! With the help of the FRG, FRSA, and of course our FRG advisor we

were able to put on a great Easter party. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves even Anna Pena

who spent the entire time on the BBQ. If you didn‟t get the chance to thank her, please do so the

next time you see her.

Operation Pink Flamingo is in full swing and your ideas keep getting more creative as we saw with

the latest FRG meeting. Pictures are being taken and posted on facebook for everyone to see.

Feel free to send your pictures of the TF events to your respective FRG leaders and we will ensure

they are sent to FOB Wolverine for our Soldiers to see. Let‟s continue to be creative at the next

FRG meeting on May 12th at the FRC starting at 7 pm.

We are proud to announce that TF Wings had a few of our volunteers recognized for their hard

work and dedication this month. Wendy Carlston received a coin from BG Colt, and Tara Habhab

was recognized as Volunteer of the Month for April. Barbara Cato was nominated as Volunteer of

the Year and the daughter of our FRSA, Summer Bush, was nominated as the Youth Volunteer of

the Year. If you see these great volunteers, be sure to congratulate them on their accomplish-

ments.

Just a reminder, June 9th at 6 pm, there will be a BDE Town Hall meeting hosted by COL Royar via

VTC. Details on this event will be sent out as we get a little closer, but feel free to contact the

FRSA, Debbie Bush, at 931-436-8773. As always we at the Rear D thank you for all that you do

and look forward to continue working with you.

Hero of the WeekHero of the WeekHero of the Week SPC Damekas Eubanks is our Hero of the Week for Task

Force Wings. He is from Thompson, GA and enlisted in the

spring of 2009 for all the opportunities and educational

benefits that the Army has to offer. He is a 92Y (Unit Supply

Specialist) and is one of the best. He gets the mission done,

no matter what. Those are his duties, but he goes far be-

yond that, always lending a helping hand to whomever may

need it. He has helped many Soldiers begin their college

education in the past few months we have been here. He

truly cares for the welfare and morale of the Task Force.

SPC Eubanks wants to continue his education and become a

Commissioned Officer in the the United States Army.

Hello Comanchero Family,

We are now into our second month of the deployment, and things have been going pretty well.

Our crew chiefs and maintenance personnel have all been working around the clock to keep our

aircraft up and running. Their hard work and dedication has surpassed expectations, and has re-

ceived recognition from all of the soldiers

around the battalion.

The Comancheros have successfully answered

the call to all demands that have been placed

upon them. We have moved people, supplies,

and equipment to remote parts of the country.

We have also successfully completed missions

with pathfinders and foreign fighters alike.

We have all worked hard with one common

goal of securing the RC South region.

of all of HHC I would like to

Greetings Hawk Families,

Well, 2 months off the board

and for some of us who came

on torch party, 3 months.

Time is definitely flying by

here. Since our last newsletter

TF Wings has remained very

active. Of course as usual

working hard, but we've also

had several events such as a

barbeque and FOB Ceremony

that were both a lot of fun and

remind of us home, if only for

a short while.

Also we had the distinct pleas-

ure of promoting a few of our

well deserved soldiers to

higher ranks. Congratulations

that you guys are in good

hands with CPT Ortmann, and

I am confident that he will

take this company to even

newer heights.

I will be moving to TF Lift for

the remainder of the deploy-

ment. I speak from the heart

in saying that it has been a

blessing and an honor to have

served your service member as

his or her commander. I wish

all Hawks and their families

the very best in their futures.

Thank you for your service to

Hello to all C Co Family and

Friends,

There have been lots of great

things happening this past

month. First of all, we‟d like to

welcome two new additions to

the Widowmaker family;

Macee Fraizer, born March

24th and Levi Leininger, born

March 29th.

In other big news, CW2 Eric

Carver recently completed his

grueling, three day, pilot-in-

command evaluation. Con-

gratulations Eric on making

this significant milestone.

As a commander, I really en-

joy seeing someone acknowl-

edged for a job well done. In

March, for their outstanding

efforts during our movement

to Afghanistan, SGT Adkins,

CW3 Atzert, and CW3 Ganci

were all awarded Army

Achievement Medals. These

three guys really stood out as

stellar performers and truly

contributed to the success of

our assuming the mission and

I was proud to see them re-

warded for it. I also had the

pleasure of seeing two of our

soldiers, SGT Batin and SPC

Jones renew their commitment

to the Army by reenlisting. To

have excellent Soldiers commit

to continuing serving is hum-

bling. We, as a company, task

force, and Army, will truly

benefit from quality soldiers,

We have made some nice changes around our living area to make FOB Wolverine feel more like

our home. Recent construction in the planning area has been developed, putting our own per-

sonal touch on our daily working facilities. Walls have been torn down, new shelving has been

constructed, and tables have been built to accommodate anything a planning aviator may need.

Many of the soldiers have also made computer desks and even bed

frames to make their living facilities feel more like their own per-

sonal home. Family portraits and Comanchero stickers cover the

walls bringing as much of our lives with us as we can to make this

deployment better.

There have also been some exciting events and promotions going

on in the unit. Recently, Sgt Wingard re-enlisted in front of God and

Country extending his service to the United States Army. Mr. Marsh

was promoted to CW2 by LTC Albus. Also, Lt. Webb has officially

been promoted, and is now Captain Webb. Captain Webb was pro-

moted during a battalion BBQ along with Captain Fulkerson during

last week‟s festivities.

We would also like to thank all of our families and friends back

home for their continued support thus far in this deployment. Through care packages and con-

versations your unrelenting support has kept us in high spirits throughout our time here. It is

difficult for anyone to leave their loved ones and families in order to continue service through

our commitment to the United States military. Without all of you back home none of this could

have been accomplished. Thank you again, and we look forward to the day when we can hold

our loved ones once again.

Very Respectfully,

like SGT Batin and SPC Jones, becoming future leaders. We all know it‟s not just the soldier that

serves but their entire family so I also extend my gratitude to Mrs. Batin, Mrs. Jones, and their en-

tire families for supporting their soldier in contin-

ued service to the Nation. Last, but not least,

during March two important promotion list were

released. The first announced the promotable

status of SSG Davy to the rank of Sergeant First

Class. Just one more achievement on his record

before he moves on to Warrant Officer Candidate

school. Our second promotable status is 1LT Lein-

inger, who in addition to being a new Dad, is now

also promotable to the rank of Captain. I look

forward to later this year when these two get to

pin their rank. Congratulations both of you for

making the list!

On a fun note, our first flamingo has just arrived!

The irony of having "Wings of Death" scrolled across a pink plastic yard flamingo is a great morale

boost. The guys are already trying to train her to play Xbox. She's a slow learner, but if 1SG Weber

can learn, there is hope for our plastic friend. Thank you for sending her and we look forward to

building our Widowmaker flock.

We have a great group of top notch pilots and maintainers here. We have not, and will not, miss a

mission. Thank you for all your support from back home. Keep the care packages coming!

Spring is here. The wintery weather has lifted and

that means we have been flying – a lot! Zabul Prov-

ince is a huge AO and we have been flying more

hours on our aircraft than any other Kiowas in the

brigade in order to get out there and support our

friendly forces. In addition to working with our

American brothers on the ground we have also been

working with Romanians, Lithuanians, and Afghan

Army and Police. The Romanians and Lithuanians

are excellent professionals and the valuable training

we‟ve done with the Afghan forces is expected to go a long way in helping them build the capacity

to secure their country themselves.

Of course, we could not accomplish any of this great stuff

without our fantastic crew chiefs. Our ability to fly so

much is a reflection of their incredible work. Frankly, they

are the best group of crew chiefs I have ever worked with

and they make a difficult job look easy every day. In a

recent FOB Ceremony hosted by LTC Albus, SGT Christo-

pher Mariscal received an AAM for his outstanding work on

our advance party and SPC Marvin Waltmon received a

commander‟s coin for his standout maintenance work.

Congratulations to them both.

Also, this month was our Task Force Combat Patch Cere-

mony during which everyone received 101st Airborne Division combat patches. It was an honor

to place that storied patch on all of our deserving Troopers‟ shoulders. Congratulations also go to

1LT(P) Klint Knutson who was recently selected for promotion to CPT, and to CW2 Josh Langdon

for becoming a “green” aviator this month (he‟s been waiting a long time for this). In a fitting

ceremony, CW2 Langdon passed the “Crazyhorse Shake Weight” from his care to its new holder,

CW2 Jason Smith. The noble prize is awarded periodically to the pilot who commits some kind of

memorable, funny mistake in the aircraft. I encourage you to ask Jason how he earned it on our

troop Facebook page (search: Crazyhorse Troop, 7-17 Cavalry), to which we have been adding

lots of pictures. Try Me!

Greetings and salutations from FOB Wolverine. March and April have been an exceptionally busy

months for the Desperados. We have established our battle rhythm and are busy conducting above

standard maintenance 24 hours a day. Every soldier on the Desperado team has been working non

-stop and doing a great job. They are the key asset to the success of the Task Force Wings mission.

Without a doubt, we will continue to have busy weeks and months ahead of us. However, there is

always time for a little rest and relaxation. Recently, we had our first FOB BBQ and volleyball tour-

nament. These types of events will continue to happen in an effort to maintain morale and provide

some escape from the day to day grind. Though the Desperados are a mission-focused organiza-

tion, we understand the importance and necessity for team-building events and morale boosting

festivities.

As many of you already know, the Task Force has a page on Facebook that provides regular up-

dates on how we are doing out here and pictures of day to day life on Wolverine. We will continue

to contribute pictures so that you may have an opportunity to see your loved one. Please be pa-

tient and do not worry, we will make sure every Desperado makes an appearance on the page.

Additionally, since a picture is a worth a thousand words, we will begin to add additional photos to

our monthly newsletter. This is in an effort to provide families back home with a glimpse of day to

day life for the Desperados.

As always, the Desperado Command Team is grateful to all the families and we will continue to

update families in the coming months. Thank you for your service and your sacrifices. Without

you, we would not be the team we are today. The true unsung heroes are the family members

who wait quietly by for news from loved ones. Thank you and God Bless.

EAGLE NEWS

The month of April has finally passed for us over here in Afghanistan. The Pathfinders have been

busy at both locations and are continuing to move forward with taking the fight to the enemy.

Here at Wolverine, the weather is still beautiful. The temperatures make it somewhat warm during

the day but they dip down at night to still make it a bit chilly. It seems that there is no such luck

down in Kandahar where they should be hitting the hot season soon.

Throughout RC-S, the company has had a huge impact so far. Team 3 and the headquarters ele-

ment at KAF have been destroying enemy caches and other important targets to deny their ability

to conduct operations in the Kandahar area. At the same time, the rest of the company at Wolver-

ine has not only continued to conduct joint operations with the Afghan National Army but have also

begun to train a squad of their soldiers on how we operate. The Pathfinder Company also won

both the Soldier of the Month and NCO of the Month. PFC Grace was the winner of the Soldier of

the Month and SGT Dopkiss was the NCO of the Month, congratulations to both of them.

Slowly but surely, we will begin receiving our soldiers from the read detachment over here and

begin the process of rotating soldiers back to Ft Campbell. The decision to rotate soldiers and who

to rotate was a decision that I made with the best interest of the company in mind. The soldiers

who are hurt, not capable of performing their infantry mission or are considered additional person-

nel are heading home to make room for our incoming infantrymen.

The pink flamingo has arrived at Wolverine and is currently “secured” on our CP porch, next to the

guidon. It was a hard decision of where to place “her” but the decision was finally made to secure

“her” to the railing outside. So far it seems that she is happy with her home since she hasn‟t said

anything.

As the R&R period begins, some of our soldiers have already been home on leave and more are

due to come home each month. Please make sure that they are safe while they are home on

leave. Our thanks goes out to everyone who is and has supported us while we are over here in

Afghanistan. Without your support and sense of humor (the flamingos) this deployment wouldn‟t

be as interesting as it has been.
