THIS is my favorite time of year and I can hardly wait for the hot apple cider, warm baked goodies, the hectic holiday schedule, and melting marshmallows in front of a fire. We have a couple of announcements this month. First, I have been informed by Village Baptist Church that due to growth in their church, they have decided to move their Wednesday night activities to Sunday afternoons starting in January 2020. They offered to move us to Saturday afternoon but, that would create problems with our sew days as well as disrupt your Saturday plans. So, I have begun looking at other locations and hope to have one narrowed down by the end of this week. I will send more details out as I get them. Second, our nominating committee is hard at work at identifying the candidates for next month’s Executive Board elections. They must present the slate of candidates at the October meeting so please give them your full support as it is a very challenging job. It has been a true honor to serve you this year and I would strongly encourage everyone to commit their time to our wonderful guild! We need your leadership, fresh ideas, and creative spirit!! So, Happy Fall Y’all - I look forward to seeing you on the 20 th !

PROMOTING & PERPETUATING THE ART OF QUILTING

1st VP Report by Nancy Hope

Fall is in the air, and I am looking forward to watching

the leaves change colors. This can be such a beautiful

time of the year!

We have just two more Quilters Guild workshops this

year:

➢ On October 19th, we will be meeting to work on our Service Project of making Christmas Stockings to deliver to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Cape Fear Hospital. The workshop will be held at the Cliffdale Library, 6882 Cliffdale Road, Fayetteville, from 9:30 – 3:00. I will be out of town that day, so Ann Jackson has graciously agreed to host our workshop. There are still plenty of spaces available, so come and join in the fun and fellowship.

➢ The last workshop of the year will be held on Saturday, November 16th. Because it will be so close to Christmas, I decided to have a workshop that didn’t involve making another project. Instead, it will be a relaxing time to share ideas with other quilters. Some examples: ‘how do you store your rulers’, or ‘what is the best type of starch to use’, ‘how do you organize your fabrics: by color or by style’, etc. Start putting together ideas you would like to share or even prepare a small sample of something you have done in the past that really made life easier for you (like they do at the end of the Fons & Porter show). I welcome additional ideas! For lunch that day, plan to bring a potluck dish to share.

Thanks again to Ronda Thomas for the wonderful

Mystery Quilt workshop. I can’t wait to try another one

next year.

2nd VP Report by Cindy Clifton

The program for the October 20th

meeting will be entitled, “I Bought This

– WHY?????” Several ladies have agreed

to bring their wonderful “gems”, and to

share with us the wisdom behind these

had-to-have purchases.

VA Quilts by Ann Jackson

What a wonderful meeting! Nancy did a wonderful job, as usual. We had a total of 19 VA quilts turned in at this September meeting. Those turning in these beautiful quilts are: Aby Dolinger 2, Debra Joas, Susan Swain, Karen Shaw and Sana Moulder turned in 1 each. Maridee Hargis sent us 13 quilts for VA this time. That brings our total quilts on hand for February 2020 delivery to 85. Thanks, so much for your continued dedication to this project! We never know how many we will need until the first week in February. Sadly, the number of patients continue to increase yearly, but we have always had enough quilts for each veteran. We couldn't do it without each one of you! Thanks again.

BABY QUILTS by Marlene Brudvig

A total of 28 Quilts were donated during the September meeting: Carol Starnes 2, Rosalyn Clem 1, Sana Moulder 6, Beth Medeiros 2, Debra Joas 4, Karen Shaw 2, Shirley Labrie 4, A Simmons 2, Sonia Blue 1, Gladys Pedrojew 2, Abigail Dolinger 1, and Marlene Brudvig 1. Good work ladies! On Sept. 24 Mary Lou Dibling, Rebekah Wilson, and I went to the NICU at Cape Fear Hospital and delivered 20 girl and 12 boy some were b/g twins, boy twins, and girl twins for a total of 32 quilts. We still have a total of 46 in storage. Again, keep up the good work!!!

SUNSHINE REPORT by Mary Lou Dibling

September has been a busy month for sending cards from the guild. Stacey Cox is recovering from knee surgery and is patiently waiting to recuperate so she can join her husband who is in Japan; Peggy Dalton has been diagnosed with lupus and is in need our prayers and support; Anita Anderson is having surgery; Helga Brayboy has broken her wrist; Anne Francis is recovering from shingles; Linda Stuart’s husband is in the hospital; Mary Ann Hardee has had the shingles and her husband has been in the hospital also; and Maureen Grim is recovering from heart surgery. We just sent her a dish garden to help cheer her now that she is home. Please send cards to these members to let them know you care. We welcomed our new members. Sue Bruhn, Maria Jones, and Beverly Harris. Then we asked the birthday girls to stand so we could sing to them: Rhonda Gooding, Louise Cox, Cindy Reckler, Lynn Cline, Luanne Myers, Doris Fort, Korena Turner, Yolanda Cofield and Lynne West. They received their card and a cupcake. Birthday cards were mailed to those not present.

2020 RAFFLE QUILT by Pat Poulson

Naming the Raffle Quilt – As those of you who

were at the September meeting already know,

the quilt top is complete and has been

transferred to Beth Medeiros for quilting. When

Beth is done and I get the quilt back to bind, I will

also need to label it. The quilt is based on

Augusta Cole’s “Confetti” pattern which was

modified from an earlier quilt by Jan Bahr, also

called “Confetti” published in American Patchwork & Quilting in 2002. Both of these

patterns were based on an even earlier quilt by

JoAnn Stearns published in Quilters Newsletter

in 1997. My working title for the quilt was

“Caribbean Confetti”. Other suggestions include

“Little Bits of Summer”, Calypso, and Sunshine

on the Ocean. If you have an idea for a title,

please send it to me ([email protected])

and we will decide on a name for the quilt at the

November meeting.
