SCHOOL HISTORY
At 22 Gemma Rice volunteed in East Africa for a few yearsShe witnessed people caught in Third World povertyShe returned home to Armidale in NSW to a rewarding teaching positionAt 24 Gemma with her persuasion convinced friends etc to donate $5 a month to enable two Uganda young women to go to schoolShe continued to obtain books, teaching aids, classroom equipment, computers sewing machines, clothes, in order to start up a school Friends from Gemma’s home district formed a volunteer team to establish the very first classrooms, this was the first of many Rotary teams
One of Gemma’sclose friends, has since died from aids

In 2002 Gemma founded The School of St Jude which started with just a handful of children. Today it has an enrolement of approx 700 children with 150 staff
New classrooms & infrastucture are growing daily to allow the students to progress into Grade 6 -2006, Grade 7 - 2007, Form 1 - 2008 right through to the end of secondary school
Sponsorship & donation schemes have allowed the dream of having underprivelged children become educated a reality
Why St Jude – St Jude was the patron saint of the “lost or impossible causes”

The school currently provdes education as follows

The School is located on approx 3 acres.
This year they have purchased 30 acres of nearby land at the cost of A$340,000
This is being funded by selling off 30sm of the land to supporters of the school for $100 each As at August over
3000 blocks have been sold
By 2009 a new campus will open offering free education for 1,000 children on this land

Accommodation – Quite good, new building. Rooms have their own bathroom , bed & linen. By African standards it is excellent !!! However often water goes off with the power Work on building new classrooms etc & general improvement of facilities to cater for increased no of studentsAssistance in school operations are always encouraged
