Sisters,
This is our year to SPARKLE SPARKLE!!! It was
GREAT to see many of you at State Conference this
year! We missed those of you that could not make it.
Conference helps us to grow closer to one another
and get our enthusiasm for BPW roaring. We need
you each to not only support each other on a local
level, but in our Regional and State levels in a positive
way. Remember we are an organization of Women
HELPING Women!!
I want to say I am honored to be serving as your
2014-2015 KFBPW President. As I said in my
installation remarks, I hope we can really make a push
this year to grow. We want growth in not only
numbers, but in the closeness of your clubs members. If we can make the connection with
one another strong, that will show others our love and enthusiasm for BPW. The love I
have for my BPW sisters is great. I plan to work very hard this year to make you proud of
your President. We want to grow while keeping with many of the traditions that our Past
Presidents have laid out for us. Let me know if you have any questions, needs, or even
gripes that I may be able to help with or just be a listening ear to. This is your organization
and we need your input. We want a Stronger – Larger organization by June 2015!
Please put on your calendars our Interim Board meeting this year at Barren River State
Park on October 24 - 25, 2014. We are planning a very educational meeting to help us
learn more about what we do and why, including officer and committee chair training.
Also we will have a health fair going, so plan to come and learn some of the latest health
tips for women. If you have not attended a State meeting before or have just got out of
the habit…. I want to encourage you to come. You will be surprised at how much closer it
will make you feel to your fellow sisters. Interim Board is NOT just for board members. It
is for ALL to attend as is State Conference. To achieve our goals we need everyone to be a
part of the activities and let’s work together. If you have not been actively involved in BPW
I want to challenge each of you to make that step! If you are active I want to say THANK
YOU!! All of you come be a part of our time to SPARKLE!!!

BYLAWS Bonny Manning, Chair
Happy BPW New Year !
Congratulations to Tammy Cundiff, 2014-2015 President
of the Kentucky Federation of Business and Professional
Women (KFBPW). The bylaw committee appreciates the
opportunity to serve.
Bylaw Committee Responsibilities: The KFBPW
Bylaw Committee is responsible for the annual review of the
LO bylaws and the submittal of the bylaws to the KFBPW
President for approval. It is important to keep the bylaws
up-to-date so the member understands the authority of the
LO relative to the KFBPW.
We are currently accepting LO Bylaw Approval Forms
for 2014-2015. If, after you review the LO bylaws, no
changes are made, simple a) prepare the Bylaw Approval
Form, (b) indicate “there are NO CHANGES TO THE 2014-
2015 Bylaws for (name of LO), and (c) submit to KFBPW
Bylaws Chair, [email protected].
Bylaw Committee Requests: It is important that EACH
MEMBER in the KFBPW obtain a copy of both the KFBPW
and the LO bylaws. The KFBPW bylaws are available at
bpw-ky.org and your LO bylaws are available from your LO
President.
Bylaw Committee Tasks: During 2014-2015, the bylaw
committee is preparing draft region model bylaws to assist
the region leadership in the governance of KFBPW.
The bylaw committee, using the “model local bylaw
format,” will include
the region boundary line map, i.e., north central,
south central, west
membership category designation (revised)
voting authority criteria, etc.
Thank you. Please let me hear from you.
FACEBOOK Cathy Hughes, Administrator
BPW Members and Facebook Users,
Did you know that KFBPW has a Facebook page? Well
we do! It is listed as Kentucky Federation of Business and
Professional Women.
We will post upcoming events that we are made aware of
on the state, regional and local levels. We will post other
interesting information.
So look for us, like us and use the page!
ISSUES MANAGEMENT Peggy Orberson, Chair
Hello fellow BPW Members,
I am excited to be a part of Tammy’s team this year and
hope we can get off to a great start. The state federation is
only as great as its members in all the locals across the state.
Now is the time to have planning sessions for your speakers,
programs, and projects for the year. It is our mission to
EDUCATE, INFORM, and ADVOCATE. To do this we
must also communicate. This issue will contain the contacts
for each officer, chair, and local contact, and also a calendar
of events. Keep them handy as you plan, and don’t hesitate to
use your officers and committee chairs as resources. Also
don’t forget the Leadership Manual.
It’s early to start talking about awards, but think about
the five focus areas as you plan your activities: Political
Action, Women in the Workplace, Economic Issues Important
to Women, Women’s Health Issues, and Skills Training and
Development. You do not have to include all areas to be
eligible for awards. Don’t forget to get feedback from your
members as to what issues are important to them.
As you conduct successful programs, please share with
me the names, contact information, and subject for any
consenting speakers that would be willing to go to other
locals or regions. Our goal is to prepare a resource for all
locals to share.
Enjoy your summer, but keep BPW in mind!
WEST REGION Wanda Crowe, Director
I hope everyone is having a great summer. The West
Region was excited to have the winning Aspiring
Professional in Brooke Archila at the KFBPW State
Conference. Brooke is a member of the Hopkins County
BPW. All the candidates did an excellent job and we are
very proud of Brooke and Leslie Page from Paducah BPW.
The West Region officers for the 2014-2015 year are:
Wanda Crowe, Director; Betsy Burkeen, Assistant Director;
Cathy Hughes, Secretary; Diane Croney-Turner, Treasurer.
Our spring regional meeting has been set for March 28,
2015 in Paducah, hosted by Paducah BPW. Please mark
your calendars now and make your plans to be there!
I’m looking forward to a great year and proud to be a
part of the West Region.

Berea BPW Zayda Flanery, President
Berea BPW wishes everyone a great summer! We have
installed our officers for the year 2014-15. The officers are:
Zayda Flanery-President, Joyce Mosher and Hazel Morris –
Co-Vice Presidents, Recording Secretary – Rene’ Poitra,
Treasurer- Linda Van Winkle and Corresponding Secretary –
Sherry Jones. We would like to extend an invitation for you
to come visit us on the first Tuesday of each month at the
Smokehouse Grill in Berea beginning at 6 p.m.
This year we hope to work on our membership and the
presentation of our scholarship awards. We have started
plans for our Rudolph auction in December and hope to see
you there!
Campbellsville BPW Marilyn J. Neumann, President
In May the Campbellsville chapter presented
scholarships to two deserving young women. Britany
Harden was the winner from Campbellsville High School
and Rebecca Cross was the winner from Taylor County High
School. These scholarships are the focus of our fund-raising
activities throughout the year. We also elected officers for
the coming year: Marilyn J. Neumann, President, Karen
Hardin, 1st Vice President, Renay England, 2nd Vice
President, Fran Deener, Secretary, and Bethany Shively,
Treasurer. The executive committee will be meeting over
the summer to plan next year’s activities.
Hopkins County BPW Wanda Crowe
Hopkins County BPW is excited about all the
possibilities for the upcoming year. Our new officers are:
President, Lana Moore; President-Elect, Julie Franklin;
Treasurer, Patti Fallin and Secretary, Dana Weaver. We are
so pleased to recognize our very own Aspiring Professional,
Brooke Archila as the winner at KFBPW state conference,
which is a great honor considering the talent in this year’s
contest! President Moore presented each member with an
“honor” card to remind us to honor ourselves. In our
President’s words “in order to help others we need to take
care of ourselves first.” Hopkins County BPW is still
committed to recruiting quality members and making a
difference in the lives of women in our county and beyond.
Danville BPW Brenda Baker, President
The Danville local is in the process of planning our
programs and projects for the year. Members are enthused
and energized to let our area know about the area’s best kept
secret – Business and Professional Women.
Some of the topics and projects include inviting speakers
on BPW/KY Foundation, personal safety, and women’s
health; celebrating Kentucky Business Women’s Week;
conducting Pay Equity activities; sponsoring an Aspiring
Professional candidate; and participating in community/civic
activities such as bell-ringing for the Salvation Army at
Christmas and supporting Holly’s House, a home for young
pregnant girls. To do this, we will need ideas for fund
raising, and are looking for input from other clubs about
successful fund raising ideas they have had. They may
contact President Brenda Baker at [email protected]
with details.
We will also continue with membership recruitment and
strive to make the public more aware of the value of our
organization through better public relations activities. Let’s
all take the plunge and make this the best year ever!
Glasgow BPW Tina Combs, President
Things have been busy here at Glasgow B&PW.
Our June meeting was the first at our new location, T.J.
Pavilion Community Center with a local Bistro catering. We
enjoyed having our State President, Tammy Cundiff visit us
for committee sign-up night. President-Elect Myria Taylor
began our year with a strong statement: A chain is as strong
as its weakest link. Members were asked “What will the club
be this year?” Will it be strong because of your participation?
Everyone signed up for a committee and completed an
issue management survey to determine our member’s interest
and needs. The survey results determined we will focus on
Voter Registration Drive, Time Management, Health Care
Access and Costs, Burden of Health Care Cost & Dealing
with Difficult People.
We are currently preparing for July’s meeting that will
highlight finances for our ladies in ways to save by
couponing. Melanie Watson is our Finance Chair and we
expect an educational and fun night.
Some upcoming events being discussed and planned
include: membership drive, new member installation,
updating our membership directory, new member mentor/
orientation workshop. We also hope to have a Professional
Development Program this year. It’s going to be a great year!
Page 7
Hopkinsville BPW Dorothy Tolliver, Legislation Chair
Since the last publication, Hopkinsville lost a devoted
member, Dawn Askey. She is missed! We extend sympathy
to her family.
Ann Boseman, Chair for Scholarship had our two
recipients come to our April meeting as guest speakers. Both
ladies are outstanding and we feel they are most deserving of
our scholarship dollars. Ann already has two new recipients
chosen for fall semester.
Finance Committee did our May program, Karen Lamb
did an “Education of our Finances” by explaining how our
budget is set with ideas of how we can go forward making
better use of our dollars.
June was a busy month. We had a team at “Relay for
Life”; Peggy Stricklin did a great job as chair. Five of us
attended State on June 13-14 in Lexington; June meeting was
installation of new officers for 2014-15. We congratulate
Janice Cayce and her team for bringing home the President’s
Award from state!
We have added two new members to our rolls and we
look forward to a busy and productive year with Lena Wann
as our incoming president. We wish all a safe and happy
July 4th.
Springfield BPW, Inc. Ginny White-Schatzke, President
We are gearing up for an extremely busy time now that
our 2014–2015 officers have been elected: President –
Ginny White-Schatzke; President Elect – Kim Fritz; Vice
President – Lisa Haydon; Recording Secretary – Mary Lynn
Fenwick; Treasurer – Janice Tinge; Nominations Chair –
Laurie Smith
Our organization is in the process of becoming a non-
profit corporation. The official name will be Springfield
Business and Professional Women’s Club, Inc. Becoming a
501 (c) (6) will help tremendously with sponsors during our
yearly signature fund raiser.
Thanks to everyone who attended/supported the Wine &
Stein held in May. The success of this event allows us to
provide scholarships to women throughout our community to
further their education and career.
Four of our club members attend the State Conference.
Representatives were Kim Fritz, Carolyn Hardin, Sarah
Burns and Ginny White-Schatzke.
We recently awarded a $1,000 Community Activism
Scholarship to Bethlehem High senior, Katherine Griffitts
and a $300 non-traditional scholarship to Jennifer Lawson.
In July, we will host our summer social/meeting at
Horseshoe Bend Winery.
September 29, 1964 will mark 50 years since our club
was chartered! We are planning a celebration… more details
coming soon.
Paducah BPW, Inc. Merryman Kemp, Secretary and P. R. Chair
President Pat Moriarty, Secretary Merryman Kemp,
Treasurer Dorthy Carlisle, and Leslie Page, member and our
Aspiring Professional as well as first place winner at our
Regional meeting, attended State Convention.
Our local is very busy preparing for an event we are
sponsoring for the entire community on Tuesday evening,
July 8. Paducah Police Captain Don Hodgson will present a
program about the dangers of texting while driving. Hillary
Coltharp also will be on the program. She is a local young
woman who was severely injured in an automobile accident
while texting. We have conducted a massive P. R. campaign
by e-mail, and we have distributed many colorful fliers. An
anonymous donor has contributed money for two cash prizes
to be given away after the program.
Somerset BPW Pam Emerson, President
Somerset BPW is geared up and ready for another great
year! We’ve been very busy getting our Committees
together and planning membership drives, fundraisers and
events for the upcoming year.
I especially look forward to our summer travel months in
June and July when our BPW Sisters get together to have fun
and become better acquainted! It’s a wonderful opportunity
to form closer relationships with our members as well as
mentor our new members.
In June, after enjoying a delicious meal at Cheddar’s
Restaurant, we visited Pioneer Playhouse in Danville and
watched a hilarious play called “Whodunnit, Darling?” The
Sheriff in the play was a real hoot! We’re now looking
forward to our next outing on July 24th, when we’ll travel to
Stearns, KY, to visit the South Fork Scenic Railway where
we’ll hop aboard the train for a scenic train ride followed by
a visit some of the shops nearby; and of course, we “must”
seek out a great place to eat before returning home.
Our plans seem to be coming together nicely and this
should be a very successful and productive year for Somerset
BPW! Meetings are held the 4th Thursday of the month.
