IKB offers me everything I need to achieve my ambitions Imogen, Year 12

We are an inclusive state academy catering for the individual needs of all of our students with an intentionally small intake, where professional relationships can really make a difference to nurture as well as challenge. We value the contribution made by all of our students and seek to create an atmosphere of trust and positivity where we can all enjoy and achieve great things together.

IKB is an exciting option for 14-19 students, but it is not an easy option and on entering IKB we will raise your aspirations, so, on leaving, you will realise these aspirations competing against the best for university places, apprenticeships, work or training in your chosen field.

We welcome applications from all students with an interest and passion for these subjects and offer many different pathways. For example, many of our Post-16 students study four A levels (e.g. maths, further maths,

physics and chemistry) and others study at Level 3 via a vocational route (e.g. core maths, double BTEC Construction and BTEC Science).

We can arrange meetings to discuss your options with you. Please use the application form on the website or the contact details found here to arrange a visit. I look forward to welcoming you to IKB.

Mrs D Gibbs Principal, IKB Academy

WHAT DOES IKB OFFER?

IKB is a ‘Studio School’Studio schools recognise that students need more than a “one size fits all” traditional education to compete and succeed in today’s world. So they combine expert staff, outstanding facilities, industry connections and student support to drive innovation in education.

In doing so we offer students more and in turn students from IKB offer the national and global economy more. On graduating from IKB students have gained the high quality qualifications, skills and experiences that mean they are highly sought after for the most competitive places at university, apprenticeships and jobs in sectors that currently show local and national skills shortages.

IKBThe IKB Academy specialises in STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. This specialism is driven by both local and national demand for qualified, skilled and experienced young people in these areas and our curriculum encourages students to immerse themselves in STEM areas. As part of the Wellsway Multi Academy Trust and having our campus located on the Wellsway site means we can also offer students a wide range of GCSEs, A levels and BTEC qualifications alongside the STEM subjects offered at IKB.

Page 7: TAKING LEARNING TO A WHOLE NEW LEVEL - Home … methods; • The opportunity ... Taking learning to a whole new level. WHY IKB? Example of a high level STEM career: ... • BTEC L3

WHAT ARE THE KEY DIFFERENCES BETWEEN IKB ACADEMY AND A TRADITIONAL SCHOOL OR COLLEGE?:To unlock potential students are supported by coaches as well as tutors to inspire, support and develop their enquiring minds, enabling students to take risks, meet challenges and achieve their potential in national qualifications.

To encourage innovation in education our classes are smaller. Small numbers in our school also allows our delivery to be personal, individual and supportive.

To immerse our students in STEM our teachers are experienced specialist teachers of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths and our brand new building is a state of the art STEM learning environment.

To develop the skills and experience they will need to compete for higher education and apprenticeships, all our students take part in long-term high quality placements relevant to their area of study.

To foster teamwork and have fun we organise a varied enrichment programme that develops other interests and allows students and staff to work and enjoy activities together outside the classroom.

To develop the attributes they will need for the next stage of their education, we work through a framework of study and employability skills which is monitored and assessed through the coaching programme.

Its Post-16 courses are delivered at the following centres: • Wellsway School, a high performing secondary school and sixth form with a long history of success.

• Sir Bernard Lovell Academy has over the past ten years has been at the forefront of national 14-19 developments.

• The IKB Academy is a 14–19 school specialising in courses related to Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) with employer links providing real life contexts for learning.

• The Bath Studio School, a 14–19 school specialising in courses related to the Creative and Media Industries with employer links providing real life contexts for learning.

The formation of the Trust’s Post-16 partnership brings with it many advantages, amongst them the potential for shared provision. By working together now and in the future the Post-16 providers of Wellsway, IKB, SBL and the Bath Studio School will be able to provide both broad-based and specialist pathways for students in which they can access high quality teaching across state of the art facilities.

Wellsway Multi Academy Trust (WMAT) is a recently formed partnership of schools in the Bristol – Keynsham – Bath area that are working together to provide a high quality educational experience for all students in their care.

Each student will still be based in the school of their choice but will be able to access the wider opportunities, both academic and extra-curricular, offered at our other learning centres depending on their interests and needs. This innovative structure will enable us to provide an exciting and more comprehensive Post-16 offer that will better serve all the students in our communities regardless of whether they want to progress to university, to a higher apprenticeship or into employment. Launched in 2015, this unique collaboration will ultimately provide greater opportunities, within a caring sixth form setting, for all students in the increasingly challenging and diverse educational landscape.

We are pleased to be able to endorse this exciting new development and are committed to working in partnership to ensure that our provision meet the needs of all students.

BEING A WMAT SIXTH FORM STUDENTStudying with the Wellsway Multi Academy Trust means you can choose the coursesthat are right for you.

By teaming up together Wellsway, SBL, IKB and the Bath Studio School offer you access to over 50 sixth Form courses. If the centre at which you want to study doesn’t run a particular course of your interest, it might be available at one of our other centres; so rather than walk from one classroom to another, you simply hop on the free WMAT transport that takes you direct from one school to another and back again.

The WMAT Sixth Forms work closely together. We have aligned our timetables, working days, reporting systems and teaching to give you a consistent experience. Whether you study a subject at another centre or not, you will meet and mingle with students from other WMAT schools. It may be that they join you for lessons at your own school or it may be that you get involved in the increasing number of WMAT enrichment opportunities, extra-curricular activities and social events.

Being a WMAT student gives you the best access to Sixth Form education in a school setting.

Other members of the Wellsway Multi Academy Trust include:

The Bath Studio School is a 14-19 school specialising in courses related to the Creative and Media Industries with employer links providing real life contexts for learning.
