Presentation
Dear Colleagues,
The International Renal Meeting and Mayo Clinic Day in Sardinia will be held in Cagliarifrom April 30 to May 3, 2011. It is a tradition of our Unit to organize an International RenalCourse in Sardinia. We started in 1998 with the “Chia Laguna Meeting onImmunointervention in Nephrology”.
This time, the main object of the Congress is to give an opportunity to analyze and tostudy in depth some topics, recently debated during the congresses of national andinternational scientific societies, with an educational purpose.
The Renal Transplantation Session will focus on long-term graft survival, transplanttolerance, antibody-mediated rejection and some aspects of immunosuppressive inductionand maintenance regimens.
The Clinical Nephrology Session will focus on podocytopathies and collagenopathies, genetics of nephrotic syndrome and glomerulonephritis, biological drugs and personalizedmedicine.
The Dialysis Session will focus on critical care of cardio-renal and hepato-renal patients, heart failure and hypertension in ESRD and two topics on current and future structureorganization for renal patients assistance in Peritoneal and Hemo-dialysis.
Moreover, we are honoured to host for the first time Mayo Clinic Day in Cagliari. In thecourse of the Mayo Clinic Day speakers will make an accurate and through analysis of ANCAAssociated vasculitis, new trends in the therapy of Nephrotic Syndrome, Renal amyloidosis,MPGN, preeclampsia and ADPKD. For each Mayo Clinic topic an Italian expert of the topicwill highlight the main points of the talk for the discussion. Mayo Clinic Day will close witha debate on Hemoglobin targets for anemia.
Sardinia is an ideal destination all year round. It is particularly pleasant to enjoy the Mediterraneanclimate during the spring (April and May), before the hot summer. You can also better appreciate theMediterranean vegetation in full bloom.
Cagliari, an ancient city with a long history, is the capital of the island of Sardinia, a regionof Italy. Cagliari is situated in the “Golfo degli Angeli” having one of biggest ports in theMediterranean sea and an international airport.
Cagliari is the seat of a notable University. The city is also an important regional cultural, educational, political and artistic centre, known for its diverse art nouveau architecture andseveral monuments.
The tradition of the Sant’Efisio festival originated in the mid seventeenth century whena terrible plague swept across Sardinia decimating the population in four years.Ten thousandpeople died in Cagliari alone and the town councillors prayed to Sant’Efisio to save the city. When the epidemic finally passed in May 1657 the people of Cagliari kept the promise theyhad made to the saint and carried his sacred image in procession from Cagliari to Noraevery year on May 1st and it is a magical celebration of faith and folklore, the sacred and theprofane. The event attracts thousands of tourists from every part of the world.
We look forward to meeting you in Cagliari and trust that the quality of the scientificprogramme, Sardinian hospitality and this peaceful environment may guarantee a successfuloutcome.
