    TAMILNADU FEDERATION OF VOLUNTARY AGENCIES

    History of TAFVA:

    Tamil Nadu Federation of Voluntary Agencies established in the year 2004 by V.R.Rajan, Secretary General, TAFVA

    and other associate NGOs. Our federation is initiated by the consistent efforts of professionally managed voluntary

    agencies of Tamil Nadu. It operates from Chennai and works in all the districts of Tamil Nadu and supports the guest

    states also. TAFVAs first initiatives was to create a federation for the genuinely registered NGOs who work for social

    cause in Tamil Nadu and bring them together for voluntary Action.

    2004 onwards

    Right from inception in 2004, TAFVA has been actively engaged in strengthening the development modules,

    confidence building, resource sharing, knowledge management, policy advocacy, efficacy building and

    other means of support to all its members.

    TAFVA identified the lack of awareness knowledge on the emerging issues among the voluntary agencies and

    worked on to the specific issues, which will fulfill the needs of NGOs and raising voices for NGOs to work peacefullyfor the welfare of poor people.

    TAFVA works on the prevailing issues

    1. Rights for NGOs,

    2. Lack of Schemes from the Government

    3. Funds released by the state and Central agencies

    4. Misutilisation of Govt. grants,

    5. Misuse of NGO banners and their beneficiaries,

    6. Misallocation of proper funds for the social cause,

    7. Improper rating and monitoring of NGOs

    At present TAFVA reached to 1300 NGOs in the districts of Tamil Nadu and from other states to work together for

    the people welfare. TAFVA is backed indirectly by the active participation of more than 1 Lakh Self Help Groups

    having a total membership of 15 Lakhs individuals reaching a critical mass of 1 crore population both men and

    women throughout the State of Tamil Nadu in India.

    Our Objectives

    1. Generate awareness among voluntary agencies about the emerging issues and rights concerned.

    2. Support voluntary sector in Knowledge Sharing, Capacity Building and Linkage with resources at State,National and International in Corporate, Public and Private sectors.

    3. Laison with State, National and International organizations to support and promote voluntarism and voluntaryaction.

    4. Assess and award the performance of voluntary agencies and encourage them to attain sustainable voluntaryaction.

    Membership Renewal

    Members are advised to renew their membership after the maturity date. Payment can be made either cash /

    cheque/DD in Favour of Tamil Nadu Federation of Voluntary agencies payable at Chennai.

    Termination Renewal

    TAFVAs services may be terminated when Non payment of membership fee by due date or within 45 days from

    maturity date only.

    Our Services

    1. To provide opportunity to participate in theme based workshops, discussion panels, conferences and lectureson a broad range of relevant issues

    2. To enhance the capabilities and knowledge of member organizations / individuals in order to strengthen theiroverall effectiveness in the development sector.

    3. To utilize TAFVA as their voice and their gateway to the media, politicians, civil servants, internati onalagencies and other NGOs.

    4. Members become involved in a partnership and a network, which works towards the common goal andinterests of the sector.

    5. Current information with regard to funding will be updated to the Members, on the emerging issues andconcern, and also link them to resources from time to time.

    6. Professional consultancy services can be rendered from TAFVA as and when required on areas such asresearch, training, evaluation, project formulation and proposal designing and assisting in other legal issuesconcerned with NGOs.

    Magazine & Newsletter

    TAFVAS NGO Today It is a monthly magazine, published exclusively to update knowledge base of workforce in

    the voluntary sector containing current funding opportunities, field experiences, current legal matters, government

    notifications and a number of useful articles. It has become immensely popular and is found very useful by

    government departments, ministries, academic institutions, funding agencies and by all our members and their

    networks.

    e TAFVA It is a weekly web based newsletter providing updates on TAFVAs activities and programmes. It offers

    multidisciplinary resources which are of use to adevelopment professionals as well as information on government

    policies, funding and forthcoming events such as training programmes, conferences and consultations both here and

    abroad.

    Research & Publications

    We also bring out publications relating to development initiatives in voluntary sector, which we distribute to our

    members from time to time. Many of them are based on intensive research relevant to the voluntary sector.

    NGO FORMATION & SUCCESSFUL MANAGEMENT It is a 765 page book published by TAFVA. It contains

    matters right from formation of an NGO to Raising and managing abundant funds. It also contains updated address

    and detailed information about funding sources both at National and International Level.

    Representation & Lobbying

    TAFVA is the authentic voice of the voluntary sector in Tamil Nadu and it lobbies for all voluntary sector matters

    before the Central & State Governments. TAFVA is particularly active in presenting various policies, regulations, pin

    pointing the constraints and loopholes in the existing policies and advisories. By sharing views and problems, our

    members help us in representing their specific matters and the issues facing the voluntary sector more effectively to

    the Central & State Governments and their agencies.

    Information Service

    TAFVA also maintain a database on global & Indian voluntary organisations. We also keep information on various

    aspects of the voluntary sector including sector specific NGOs, academic institutions, consultants and consultancy

    firms involved in the voluntary sector. Such information is communicated to our members generally through our news

    magazine and specifically on request from other stakeholders.

    WebsiteAll our members have the privilege of being listed free in the Members Directory on our website www.tafva.org. We

    also give links to all our members from TAFVA website to access information pertaining to current happenings in the

    voluntary sector. This helps them gain visibility both nationally and internationally.
