Utilizing the latest technology and ad-vanced training, Special Weapons and

Tactics (SWAT) teams are called upon

to defuse high-risk scenarios, such as hostage

situations, narcotics raids, and anti-terrorismoperations. State-of-the-art technologies that

    include indoor location systems, unmanned

ground vehicles, and K-9 and helmet-mountedcamera systems provide the tools needed to

bring mission-critical situations to a success-

ment agencies and business enterprise. InNovember 2012 the company, through its

strategic investment arm, Motorola Solu-tions Venture Capital, announced its in-vestment in RX Systems Inc.

Te purpose o the venture was to undintegration o the RX Indoor Location sys-tem with Motorola radios to expand indus-trial and commercial location applications.RX Systems is the developer o NEON, atracking system that delivers location-baseddata on people who are indoors, under-ground, and in urban areas where GPS iseither unavailable or unreliable.

Scheduled or distribution in the thirdquarter o 2013, RX NEON IndoorLocation System is an application that iscompatible with Motorolas APX portableradios. APX radios wirelessly pair to theRX NEON tracking unit, sending real-time location inormation and precisedetails to incident commanders about per-sonnel movement and activity.

Te NEON solution is being made avail-able or event security, training, and othermission-essential applications requiringa highly portable system that can deliverprecision indoor location. NEON usesadvanced sensor usion, ranging, and map-

pingalgorithms to augment GPS, Wi-Fi,and other xed reerences in buildings. Te

system provides real-time 2D and 3D lo-cation, dynamic mapping, clear views oactivity and status, and logging capability.

he RX NEON Indoor LocationSystem used on Motorola Solutions APX

radios is the most advanced mission-crit-ical application available or public saety

users, said Steve Gorecki, Senior Man-ager o Media Relations at Motorola. Teseamless integration o the RX NEONand Motorola Solutions APX radio, com-plemented by the portability o the com-

bined solution, enables rapid deploymento tracking or personnel operating indoorsand in dense urban areas where GPS signalsare unavailable or unreliable.

NEON is available in a Mission Essen-tial implementation or security, publicsaety, and deense applications that deliv-ers indoor location in a robust orm actorand includes Command Sotware to visual-ize personnel outtted with custom-builtNEON racking Units as they operateindoors. On-scene conguration tools thatinclude easy building rendering, rapidlydeployable Multi-Sensor Anchor Nodes,

Near-Field Check-In ags, Waypoints, andoor plan inormation may be used in xedsite applications to enhance precision.

Te RX NEON System has been de-veloped with the support o the NationalScience Foundation, the Department oHomeland Security S&, the MarylandFire and Rescue Institute, the US Army, and the Deense Advanced Research Proj-ects Agency.

Te Andros operating system providesmuch greater inormation to the operatorwhile easing user workload through moreinteractivity with intelligent payloads suchas chemical, biological, radiological andnuclear sensors. In addition, preset arm po-sitions and the ability to y the gripper, make manipulation o objects much easier.Built using a modular design approach, therobot can be readily adapted or a variety o

mission scenarios.Featuring removable articulators, wheelsand tracks, itus provides users with the

capability to navigate passageways that areonly 16 inches wide or race down range toaddress a threat at a top speed o 7.5 mph.Industry standard interaces, such as USBand Ethernet, make itus easier to main-tain and upgrade and to incorporate pay-loads and sensors.

Working closely with users, NorthropGrumman Remotec designed itus to bean extension o the bomb tech or SWA

operator, so the operator can ocus on themission and not the robot. Weve changedthe operator control unit to an intuitivetouchscreen with physical controls similarto a gaming system, added more sensorsand cameras on target or increased situa-tional awareness, plus automated unctionswhere we can.

Knopp said special attention was givento reducing lie cycle costs by providingadvanced diagnostics or improved mainte-nance, and easily upgradeable eatures andaccessory integration.

Misconduct and excessive orce claims canoten be exonerated with the aid o a record-ing device. Te actical Electronics HC3Helmet Camera not only provides the ad-vantages o video recording but is ruggedenough to withstand the rigors o acticalOperations, Arning said.

For Canine Units, actical Electronicsofers two types o K-9 Camera Systems:the back-mounted K-9MC4 and the chest-mounted K-9CMC. Te K-9MC4 camerasystem is mounted directly to the back o thedog and is designed to efectively transmitvideo back to the handler.

With built-in mini DVRs, video is re-corded directly to an SD card or post-oper-ation review and archiving. Light-sensitivecameras and IR ood illuminators provideenhanced wireless vision in low-ambient

light environments. he back-mountedK-9MC4 eatures a Black/White camerahead with 420 lines o resolution and a0.0003 lux low-light perormance CCD.

Te K-9CMC camera system has many othe same eatures as the K-9MC4, but pro-vides a diferent point o view. Mounted tothe collar o the dog, it provides a ground-level view that allows the handler to wire-lessly view what the K-9 detects on thehandheld or wrist-mounted monitor. Withcontinuous recording capability o our+ hours, this compact yet resilient camerasystem is a welcome addition to bomb-de-

tection K-9 teams. Both come with a StormCase with precision-cut oam or additionalstorage protection.
