"Do not quench the Spirit" 1 Thess. 5:19

Dears brothers and sisters in Christ,

Billi Graham once said, if only we today could realize that a nation can rise no

higher, can be no stronger and be no better than the individuals that compose that

    nation!.

If the world is bad, it is the people who are bad. If the world is confused, it is the

people in the world who are confused. If this is a godless world, it is the people

who are godless. If the church fails to be a witnessing church, it is the believers

in the church failed to be witnesses.

Members of the church are addressed as Saints who are empowered and led by theHoly Spirit. Sometimes I think we have "spiritual ear wax build-up" which

causes us to have a difficult time hearing His voice. When the Holy Spirit speaks

to us concerning a particular sin, it is almost as if He is screaming at us to stop and

think about what we are getting ready to do or the potential consequences of our

unholy actions. I believe with all my heart that turning a deaf ear to the Holy

Spirit's conviction in our lives will lead to a serious case of spiritual hearing loss.

The only solution is repentance - which is more than saying, "I'm sorry." It is

agreeing with God that your actions are sin, and then turning and going in the

    opposite direction.

Once we accepts Jesus as his or her personal Savior, the Holy Spirit comes and

takes up residence in us (Romans 8:8-9). "You yourselves are God's temple and

God's Spirit lives in you" (I Corinthians 6:19). Because the Holy Spirit abides in

each believer, we should expect Him to speak to us on a regular basis. But each

time we resist the Spirit (Acts 7:51), grieve the Spirit (Ephesians 4:29) or quench

the Spirit (1 Thessalonians 5:19 NASB) we are becoming people who are led by

    the powers of darkness.

David realized this truth; and in wisdom, he concluded that he should start making

things right in himself! "Search me, O God, and know my heart; (Psalm 139:23).

Here was a wise confession on the part of a great leader, a humble admission that

a nation's sicknesses can be attributed to its spiritual ills. David turned his face to

the altar of God. He prayed earnestly for God to begin the revival of his nation by

kindling the fires of revival in his own heart. Not only did he pray that he might

know God, but that God might know him. Do you want God to know you and

    what you do?

Let the Spirit of God take control and lead us that we may together become a

    powerful people.

    God bless you.

Everyone gets angry at times. But too many people let the powerful emotion of an-

ger rage out of control. Here's how to overcome anger and find peace:1. Admit the anger you feel, and take it seriously. Don't deny or suppress your an-

ger. Be honest with God, yourself, and others that you feel angry.

    2. Determine the cause of your anger. Ask God to help you figure out what's caus-

ing you to feel angry. Consider these common causes of anger: blame, shame, pride,

insecurity, dreams that have been deferred or denied.

    3. Give up your "right" to express destructive anger. Even when you have a good

reason to feel angry, you don't have any right to express your anger in ways that

hurt people.4. Take time out before responding to whatever or whoever has made you angry.

Rather than expressing your anger right away, put some distance between yourself

and the situation or person bothering you.

    5. Redirect your energy. Redirect the energy from your negative feelings of anger

into positive actions that are useful and productive, such as cleaning.

    6. Plan how to respond to future anger triggers. Rehearse in your mind what you

can say and do to respond wisely to difficult people or stressful situations you may

encounter that can trigger anger in you.

    7. Set emotional goals for your relationships. Set goals for how you can relate to oth-

ers without resorting to destructive anger, such as by adjusting your expectations of

each other to make sure they're realistic.

    8. Forgive. If you're holding onto anger against someone who has hurt you, you

can't be in a right relationship with God, who calls you to forgive as He has forgiven

    you of your own sins.

    9. Surrender . Be willing to place your trust in God - no matter what - since He loves

you completely and knows what's best for the life He has given you.

    10. Resolve conflict wisely. Identify your part in the conflict and ask God to help

you say what you need to say with kindness and respect.
