awareness about men’s health. This year, for the first time, primary school children can join in the growing fun too, thanks to

Miracle-Gro.

They’ve launched Gro-vember, where children can grow their own grass moustaches using our funny face

templates. The templates are part of our complete Gro-vember kit for teachers or parents, which is both fun and

Rickshaw Challenge Ready to Ride with the Round Table Family

The Round Table family are being urged to again back the One Show’s Rickshaw Challenge in aid of Children in Need.

The Challenge was officially launched earlier this monthunveiling the five young riders who will cycle from ‘Salford to Walford’ over eight days from November 7, taking in the likes of Blackpool, Liverpool, Nottingham, Alton Towers, Coventry and Buckinghamshire before completing their journey on to the Eastenders set.

Tablers, Circlers, 41ers and Tangent members have all been pivotal in making the Rickshaw Challenge a success behind the scenes by amassing an army of volunteers to help with the fundraising.

This year is no different with the organisers appealing once again for our support.

Elissa Bryan, partnership assistant for Children in Need said: “Everyone at Pudsey HQ really appreciates the efforts that both Round Table and Ladies Circle put into helping us.We literally could not do it without you!”

The exact finish lines are still being finalised but volunteers at Alton Towers will get access to one of the rides.

Volunteers are needed for the following venues and if you have hi-viz jackets and collection tins and buckets take them along.

Friday 7th Blackpool

Saturday 8th Liverpool

Sunday 9th Buxton

Monday 10th Nottingham

Tuesday 11th Alton Towers

Wednesday 12th Coventry

If you can be a superhero and show your support email Caleb Watson [email protected] and Do More for Children In Need next month.

What is Pula or Bust?

It’s a Banger Rally Challenge from St Austell to Pula Croatia.

It’s a grulling schedule that consists of day 1 (2nd October) – Plymouth, Day 2 –Arnac, SW France (about 100km east of Bordeaux) Day 3- Bormes-les-Mimosas, Cote d’Azur, South of France Day 4 –Lake Garda, Italy Day 5 – Pula, Croatia, and then back via Milan and the French Alps, arriving back in Plymouth on the 10th October some mere 2875 miles later

Who organises it?

It’s organised by Tom Marshall and Gary Warren and the guys from St Austell & District Round Table.

Have you taken part in it before and has it always been to Pula?

I believe this was the 3rd or 4th planned rally; last year was Barcelona or Bust.

This was my first year, as Area 19 Chairman I didn’t just want to just rock up at Tables business meetings for an hour and go home, I wanted to get to know

my fellow Tablers better. So with 3 Tables from Area 19 taking part in the Rally I jumped in one of two cars entered by Plymouth Round Table. Believe me we got to know each other!

How many teams were taking part and describe some of them and their cars?

Teams from all over the UK entered. Our car didn’t make it to the official start as we were on Table time, so we met up with the 130 plus cars at the ferry port in Plymouth. This was a real site, we had a Space Shuttle, Midget Clowns, Scooby Doo, and many more plus the guys from Torquay Round Table in a Scandinavian Sauna Car complete with towelling Dressing gowns.

Tell me about your team and the car you drove?

Our team comprised of the infamous Hinchliffe bothers Mark & Ben and Dave (I think his real name is Matt) a window fitter from Saltash. I hadn’t spent much time with any of the guys but by the end of the trip we all knew a little more about each other and I am sure we will meet again and reminisce over a pint or two.

Our car was quite modest, a Volvo V70 (The Silver Fox) complete with air con and full leather interior.

To keep us amused we had a bubble machine and megaphone to announce our arrival at

various intersections or set of traffic lights, basically any built up area where we could attract attention to ourselves.

What were some of the highlights of the trip - things you did, funny moments, places you stayed?

It was such an amazing trip with so many highlights, the gruelling 17 hour drive on Day 2

from Roscoff to Arnac in the Dordogne with my co drivers insisting with less than an hour until we reached camp site that

PULA OR BUSTMore than 400 participants from the UK have helped to raise £128,000 for six charities - so what is PULA or Bustall about? Tabler Extra Editor Lee McLaughlan spoke to Area 19 Chairman, Chris Luxton,

we stop and find the French equivalent to Special Brew to numb the pain of my slow driving. Cruising through Cannes and Monte Carlo and parking up alongside the rich and famous then to be moved on the local law enforcement. The amazing architecture of Venice, and the Millau Viaduct; the dawn swims

to ease the hang over from the night before. I learnt that there appears to be two Lake Garda’s in Italy, I would recommend the one with the big lake, not the housing estate 120km in the wrong direction!!!!

The area 19 Chairman (me) feeling the need for a late night swim and borrowing a Pedalo from the beach with an unknown partner in crime. And also the pod of Dolphins that accompanied our boat trip around the coast of Croatia.

But like all these things it’s about your fellow Tablers, meeting old friends for the first time.

What did the locals make of it as you drove through their towns?

Mainly a look of shock followed by a friendly wave, although the guys driving the car through Italy into Croatia with a machine gun and cargo net placed on the roof

might need to read up on recent history!

They were asked to dismantle their anti-tank gun and continue on their way,

Did you leave the car or drive back?

No, we had a nice two day drive back up through Milan and the Alps back to Roscoff

Where does this rank with everything you’ve done in Table?

No 1! The cost is on a par with NSW and I am slightly biased as Area 19 hosted the best ever NSW to date and conference hasn’t been too shabby either, but this has to be the best kept Round Table secret, although I understand that Tablers only made up 10 percent of the overall participants.

Like any event, Tablers get involved with, the camaraderie and friendship is hard to put into words. It’s just Round Table.

What can you tell us about next year’s - for anyone who wants to take part.

We are waiting on Tom & Gary to give us the thumbs up that

the Banger Rally Challenge will continue in 2015 I am sure it will, one thing is sure I’ll be booking in!

For more information check out www.bangerrallychallenge.co.uk or the Facebook page.Bangerallychallenge.

A one hour long Rally Special will be broadcast on Sky TV channel 212 and also Freesat channel 401 on Monday 10th November at 9pm. But the biggest thing that must not go unmentioned the 10s of thousands of pounds that gets raised for local worthy charities, the last total I saw was £120k !!!

Well done St Austell & District Round Table.

Have you purchased your Santa Badges yet?

Let’s get quizzical!Round Tables across the UK and Northern Ireland are being offered the chance to participate in a brand new initiative from ITV to kick start the festive season in style.

The broadcaster is launching the ITV Text Santa Big Quiz on December 1 – and is looking for quiz organisers the length and breadth of the country within all the ITV regions.

So where does Round Table fit in?

Well, the option is there for Round Tables to host a quiz and use this to promote any of their festive activities, New Year events and ultimately raise awareness of the club to a captive audience and who knows where this will lead.

ITV are providing questions and a promotional poster for you to raise awareness of the quiz.

ITV will also use their social media channels to highlight the quiz. Use your own channels too, while the media team are on hand for advice to assist with PR.

What do you need?

A venue – Secure a free one if you can. Try your local pub as they will love the extra clientele

A quiz master – which of your Tablers has the personality to light up the room.

A microphone and PA (ask the host!)

Questions – these are provided by ITV

Quiz assistants – someone to take the entry fees and maybe mark – but the teams can do this!

A prize – ITV don’t provide one. Is the quiz for fun or can you or the venue provide a prize?

Complete with waterproof card and recruitment card, the christmas badges are perfect for giving away on the sleigh or at any Christmas activity. We even gave all Tablers a free badge with the autumn edition of Tabler magazine.

These are proving to be very popular and WILL sell out!

Priced at just £10 per 100 and available at roundtable.co.uk/shop or ring Marchesi House on 0843 507 3077

The Round Table Elves are busy preparing Santas sleigh - make sure Santas round is listed at RoundTable.co.uk/santa by emailing

[email protected].

Round Table. Making lifelong memories at christmas.

You set the entry fee and will know your market best. ITV suggest £5 per person as this goes to support the charities benefitting from the ITV Text Santa initiative. The entry fees need to be banked by December 5 (full details are with the quiz).

A Table with just two or three members could organise a quiz, while larger Tables might want to consider running more than one to increase awareness – the choice is yours!

If you think you have the time to organise a quiz – there is no obligation – then please email [email protected] we can forward you the details and PR tips!

La Dolce VitaKick start the New Year with a trip to bella Italia – with not one but TWO opportunities to savour la dolce vita.

Grab a ‘pizza the action’ by taking your Tabling to new heights – and we’re not talking the leaning Tower here!

You have the choice of the delightful Ravenna – home to EIGHT Unesco world heritage sites – or the floating jewel of Venice and its legendary carnival. If the bank balance is deep enough and the boss says yes then why not do both!

First up is Ravenna in late January which is playing host to the Central Tablers Meeting – better known as CTM.

Go for the ‘molto bene’ four night option from January 21-15 – savouring cultural and culinary delights mixed with a heady cocktail of party, party, party. Optional extras include wine and beer tasting as well as a trip to San Marino.

There are four packages and discounts if booked and paid for by the end of this month. You won’t be alone as a number of RTBI Tablers are already booked in – and flights are available direct from Heathrow to Bologna (book separately). For more information and prices go to www.ctm2015.com

Details of the Venice carnival have now been confirmed for those looking to go the extra mile for Valentine’s day next year.

Running from February 12-15, the famed mask ball is on the Friday. While in Venice optional tours including ‘Romeo and Juliet’, where you will see how spumante is made or ‘Seductive Venice’ – following the footsteps of Casanova.

But be quick as bookings for this year’s chosen hotel end on November 11, while the deadline for packages is January 6, 2015.

Details, including packages and prices, can be found at www.booking.roundtable.it
