I would like to start out by giving another BIG THANK YOU to the Nevada County Historical Society. They waved our rent for another 90 days starting July 1. That is 6 months of no rent for the Community Service and Guild storage facility. That is very generous of them!

I was not able to make our first ever guild meeting via Zoom. I have heard a lot of positive feedback from a number of you who did attend. People really liked the close up Show and Tell pictures and the breakout sessions. I want to thank the Zoom committee for setting this up and to Lillian Glaeser for filling in for me. Virtual Meeting Report: Hooray for us! The August 4th PTQG General Meeting was a successful first Zoom meeting. Two weeks in advance of meeting, the Zoom Team, Jane Dunnington, Susanne Haislet, Karle DeProsse and Holly Miner guided those who asked for help with how to use Zoom. Members submitted photographs for a virtual Show and Tell and 40 members “zoomed” in for the meeting led by VP Lillian Glaeser. The meeting officially began at 6:30pm but members could log in at 6:00pm to work out any little problems. After an official close, the meeting continued with “breakout rooms” so that small groups could continue to chat about what they were doing to cope with the interruption to normal activities. Feedback has been very positive, especially on the Show and Tell. Watch for an email that will include the link to the Guild Zoom Meeting and plan to log in between 6:00 and 6:30pm on Tuesday, September 1st.

The PTQG Nominating Committee recognizes the unusual circumstances of 2020. Due to the restrictions of Covid-19, we have been forced to suspend or greatly alter most Guild activities since March and have no clear vision as to when we may return to “normal”. Feeling the need for continuity and experience to maintain the structure and integrity of our organization, and at the recommendation of the Board, our current Executive Officers were asked and if elected, have agreed to continue through 2021. Our by-laws allow for the Executive Board to serve no more than two consecutive years, therefore, the Nominating Committee puts forth the following names for consideration as Executive Officers for 2021:

President - Barbara CeresaVice President - Lillian Glaeser

Secretary - Sheri DoerrTreasurer - Kathy Mollett

We will also be accepting nominations from the general membership. If you have someone you would like to nominate, please send that information to Joan Mosley by September 9, 2020. Her contact information is in the roster.

Thank you,PTQG 2020 Nominating Committee Joan Mosley, Anne Wilson, Sue Marshall, Sue Miller

Report from the 2020 Nominating Committee

Jamboree for 2020 is cancelled

Website Committee NewsThere were no additional volunteers for the Website Committee, so it stands at four: Sophia Day (Chair), Holly Miner, Jane Dunnington and Susanne Haislet.

The committee has met twice via Zoom to review the style and content for the updated website. It was determined that an update to the logo was in order. The revised logo was presented at the Board Meeting on August 13 and approved.

The work on the website is ongoing and will not be “live” until it is completely ready. The URL is not changing…just one day when you go to pinetreequiltguild.com it will look very different. There is much work to do, but the goal of being able to make the updates directly rather than through the current arrangement will be appreciated. Since updates to the new website can be done by a guild member, we will see a reduction in the yearly cost of the website. All the features on the current website will be available on the revised website.

We want to add interest and variety to the new website. Should any members have photographs from past events, such as our Quilt Show, Events, Home Workshop, etcetera,, please send them to Sophia Day or Holly Miner. Also, we are seeking photographs of past Opportunity Quilts.

Opportunity Quilt NewsThe Draft Horse Classic will not be held this year. Sadly, another event where we can sell Opportunity Quilt tickets to the public, has been cancelled. Thanks to Quilty Pleasures Mini Group, for making the Draft Horse quilt. We will be “SEW” ready for next year.

Below is a photo of “It Takes A Village”. We are not selling tickets for this quilt due to the challenges of fulfilling the California Raffle Sales requirements. The quilt was revealed to the guild during Show and Tell at our August meeting. The incredible hand sewn details added by Karle deProsse, together with the wonderful quilting by Susie Hardy, adds so much to this adorable work!

This is a Membership Committee call for a volunteer or volunteers

The Membership person/s enjoy the FUN opportunity to be in a “front row seat” to greet and meet Pine Tree Quilt Guild members and guests. Membership has an equally important SERIOUS side of creating and accurately maintaining the annual membership records for the Guild.

Annual renewals for Pine Tree Quilt Guild 2021 membership will begin in November.

I’m looking for a current member or two to work with me through this 2021 campaign to learn what’s involved and required in the renewal process and record keeping,

and then take over the full responsibility.

Assuming the pandemic restrictions remain in place, this year’s renewal process will be modified from what we are used to; however, the record keeping portion will not be affected.

Per Pine Tree Quilt Guild ByLaws, Committee Chairpersons are to be appointed by the President and meet with the approval of the Executive Board and serve as a member of the Board.

My contact information is in your Roster. I’m available by email, text and phone.

From Margie Lucas A friend found this little throw size quilt top in her deceased mother’s hope chest. It is unknown when and by whom it was sewn.  It is well sewn by machine, plaids and stripes very straight. I added borders, quilted, and returned it to my friend who is thrilled by this treasure we have named the Mystery Heirloom.  Fabrics appear to be of feed sack and thirties origin.  Any experts in the guild with opinions about age of these fabrics?  The fabric variety made it a fun project.

Small photo:

Label created by Margie’s daughter, Susan Griggs.

The process for making the label:  Photo was taken of the quilt and sent to a computer where it was lightened and label information overlayed.  It was then printed on cotton photo paper that I purchased from Ben Franklin.

From Jeanie FergusonMy last six months of covid convalescence have not been that at all. I have chosen not to succumb to fear. First of all, I have been meeting regularly with Lila Sugg for lunch and show and tell. Sweetie that she is at age 97, she bakes cookies and serves me tea replete with sterling and china on formal table cloth and Madeira lace napkins. She greets me dressed up in her finest jewelry and newly sewn floral tunic. Lila sews every day. She has not missed a beat! This little mouse pincushion was a gift to me. (see right)

I have been to Betty Maddox's home for a gargantuan yard sale. You may have got in on that, too. I purchased one of her crocheted fabric scrap rugs—famous Betty style. For my sewing studio, it is a forever reminder of our friendship, nee boss/employee relationship.

For my premiere 2020 quilt show/county fair entry this misbegotten season I would have presented the historical United Methodist Church (at the top of Broad St.) quilt (30L x 26W).

Talented 90-year old Bob Zuelsdorf is honored as my quilt's photographer. (quilt & detail pictured at left)

Today, I am smack dab in the middle of The Covered Bridge quilt (29L x 37W). (pictured at right) I am just about to finish up the excessive embroidery requirements (where is Jan Christensen when I need her?) to individuate a zillion shingles. My husband would ask, “Are you happy with it?” Yes, I am. Professional photographer Julie Nielsen is my choice for this quilt. 2021 will hopefully see the completion of my interpretation of our historical bridge. Who will finish first: the restoration crew or me?

Grandkid quilts and birthday shirts have been a pleasure as well. Squeezed betwixt and between alteration customers I press on. The varied projects requiring unique problem-solving are challenging and fun. My customers are delightful and often become friends. I retired exactly one year ago and my sewing business has been an exceptionally pleasant ride.Lots of swimming, toe-dipping, noodle-bobbing and kayaking have been a passionate respite. Gotta keep cool in these heat packed afternoons.
